What we see is that, just as soon as possible, the post-flood people were set on resuming what the Egyptians and other ancient nations had achieving with their pyramidal towers – connection with the gods in heaven to “make a name.” In other words, become famous.
In this historic context that meant “I’m gonna live forever!”
Notice that step 1 in this process is building a city. This clarifies that “they” are not all the people, a commune, or even a committee. “They” are the elite, plotting how to exploit the masses for their personal enrichment.

As our understanding of physics and technological capabilities increase beyond the wildest dreams of previous generations, archeologists examining thousands’ years’ old artifacts are forced to deduce that ancient cultures had high technology and advanced scientific knowledge that was lost to subsequent, degenerated and post-apocalyptic societies, that is still not understood in our day. At least not to the average person. Who can say what our secret government agencies have learned?
We either throw out thousands of years of inter-cultural received wisdom and ignore the evidence of ancient highly advanced technology, unexplainable by Evolution’s paradigm of human history, or we admit we don’t know everything, that powerful regimes are untrustworthy, and so keep our minds open to unimagined possibilities. Surely we can recognize the glaringly obvious clues in NASA naming their space exploration vehicles after the ancient gods.
As you read the following account, keep in mind that words will have different meanings for different cultures depending on their experience.
