If this writer – from Stanford University, ranked #6 in U.S. colleges in 2022 – can’t get the basic database straight how can we trust anything else he reports?

The Valdivia earthquake was a megathrust earthquake, caused when a tectonic plate is forced, or subducted, underneath another plate, and they become locked into place by friction. The forces that caused the plates to collide continue to build, exactly like levering a prybar into two pieces of wood nailed together, until the built-up energy rips apart, releasing not only the two pieces of mass but also the built-up energy as powerful seismic waves / quakes of earth or water.
A newly discovered ancient megaquake that struck about 3,800 years ago – a date consistent with Noah’s Flood – was even bigger, coming from a tectonic plate rupture 620 miles (1,000 km) long. The subsequent tsunami – corresponding to the biblical account of fountains of the great deep breaking upwards – created waves as high as 66 feet (20 meters) and hurling car-size boulders hundreds of miles inland.

Reliability is “the extent to which a research instrument consistently has the same results if it is used in the same situation on repeated occasions.” In the case of the flood, the research instrument is the documentation of memories.
We can grasp how a world-wide flood could destroy all of civilization and still be memorialized in far-flung civilizations across the entire world when we recognize that the physical world as it existed at the time of the flood was still one land mass – Pangea.
The few survivors of Noah’s flood were the ancestors of ALL the cultures that diversified across the world when Pangea later broke up.

A study of stone carvings at Gobekli Tepe in modern-day Turkey is interpreted as a memorial to a devastating comet strike…thought to have initiated a mini ice-age known as the Younger Dryas period, a period in Earth’s geologic history primarily known for abrupt cooling in the Northern Hemisphere within a few decades that lasted ~1200 years. The Lascaux Shaft Scene in France which features a man and several animals may also commemorate a comet strike consistent with the biblical account of the flood.
Masse believes that he has uncovered evidence that a gigantic comet crashed into the Indian Ocean several thousand years ago and nearly wiped out all life on the planet.

- Giant tsunamis would swamp the land area of the world
- Vast quantities of water would jet up into the lower atmosphere, to fall back on the land as rain
- The earth’s crust would be broken up into the tectonic plates we see today
- Vast amounts of molten magma would flow up into the sea through the fractured sea bed, turning millions or billions of gallons of sea water into steam, which would rise up into the lower atmosphere and then fall back to earth as rain
- A run-away process of subduction (see next paragraph) would be initiated, causing a rapid movement of the tectonic plates and dividing the single land mass into the separated islands we see today
As the ocean floor (in the areas of the ocean trenches) sinks into the mantle, it drags the rest of the ocean floor with it, in a conveyor-belt-like fashion. The sinking slabs of cold ocean floor produce stress in the surrounding hot mantle rock. These stresses, in turn, cause the rock to become hotter and more deformable, allowing ocean slabs to sink even faster. The ultimate result is a runaway process that causes the entire pre-Flood ocean floor to sink to the bottom of the mantle in a matter of a few weeks…

- Likewise the the Black Sea deluge dated at this same time.
- The filling of the Persian Gulf after sea waters rose following the last glacial period around 7,500 BP/ i.e. 5,000 BC, is only 1,000 years off from the biblical date of 4,000 BC for Creation.
- The 19 mile undersea Burckle Crater may have been formed by a meteor or comet crashing into the Indian Ocean generating a giant tsunami that flooded coastal lands around 3000–2800 BCE. This is 100% consistent with the biblical date of the flood.
