Until the Christ restored the immortal state to humanity at his resurrection, there were mortal humans in the legal order / lineage of Melchizedek going back to the first Adam. This is not a human lineage, but like Jacob’s inheritance to his sons, a responsibility based on the recipient’s proven ability to “overcome” self-interest and self-preservation and suffer the consequences of obeying God, rather than man.
The title of Melchizedek does not have to be stated with every individual in this order, but the Melchizedeks are identifiable based on leadership behavior.
1. Melchizedeks Walk With God – Adam / Humanity & Enoch / Trained
Both Adam and Enoch (stated twice in his case for emphasis) “walked with God“. This is key to recognizing scripturally legitimate anointed ministers of God.
“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually…and the earth was filled with violence….And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth…But Noah…walked with God…” (Genesis 6:5-18)
“the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect... behold, my covenant [of dominion] is with thee…I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God [El / source of power] unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.” ( Genesis 17)
“God, before whom…Abraham and Isaac did walk” (Genesis 48:14-15)
“let us go…to the house of the God of Jacob; and…we will walk in his paths:… let us walk in the light of the LORD.” (Isaiah 2:3-5)
2. Melchizedeks Prophesy / Teach God’s Word – Noah / Comfort & Shem / Renown
“the testimony of YHVH’s Savior is the spirit of prophecy.” (Revelation 19:10)
Noah and Shem lived for hundreds of years after the flood, providing eye-witness accounts of God’s judgment on humanity’s corruption with the gods to every generation through to Abram.
The ancient Targumim (Aramaic interpretive translations) identify Melchizedek as Shem – son of Noah. Shem was one of the links in the chain who transmitted the G‑duly traditions that originated with Adam. These traditions were carefully handed down from generation to generation, and Shem—who headed an academy—was a key conductor of these teachings.
“Abram…went to Noah and his son Shem, and he remained with them to learn the instruction of the Lord and his ways, and no man knew where Abram was, and Abram served Noah and Shem his son for a long time. And Abram was in Noah’s house thirty-nine years, and Abram knew the Lord from three years old, and he went / walked in the ways of the Lord until the day of his death, as Noah and his son Shem had taught him.” (Jasher 9:5-6)
“Adoni-zedek [clearly referencing the same individual as Melchi-zedek, where Adoni / Lord is an acceptable alternate title for king] king of Jerusalem, the same was Shem, went out with his men to meet Abram and his people, with bread and wine, and they remained together in the valley of Melech [King].
And Adonizedek blessed Abram, and Abram gave him a tenth from all that he had brought from the spoil of his enemies, for Adonizedek was a priest before God.” (Jasher 16:11-12)
3. Melchizedeks Have World-Wide Dominion – Eber / Hebrew / Region Beyond
It is helpful to reset our visual focus from a narrow view on God’s agent of salvation to the broad view of God’s object of salvation.
“The Lord…is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (II Peter 3:9)
“Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber.” (Genesis 10:21)
Recall that the ancient title of “father” meant “authority”, not sperm donor. This clearly states that “Eber’s children” accepted Shem’s spiritual authority.
The meaning of Eber as “region beyond”, explains why Eber’s story is not found in the Bible. He was out of reach of the biblical record-keepers, However, there is evidence that the biblical documentation of his life’s work spreading Shem’s authority as Melchizedek is documented by the scattered nations he served.
Historians have explored possible pre-Columbian contact between the Old and New Worlds.
This was easy to do within Eber’s operational lifespan of about 200 years prior to the breakup of the single landmass in the days of Peleg, Eber’s son.
Meso- and South American mythology is just one of hundreds of ancient world-wide cultural legends which supports this hypothesis. In their mythology, the world was periodically destroyed and rebuilt by the gods. Each age of the world was given a new sun / Light, and the world was on its Fifth Sun / Light, having been destroyed four times previously.
Immediately north of Columbia and Venezuela, the Cuna Indians of Panama, who wrote historical records on wooden tablets, had a tradition that after a devastating flood, ‘. . . there appeared a great personage who . . . taught the people how to behave, what to name things, and how to use them. He was followed by a number of disciples who spread his teachings. . . .’ (D. B. Stout, Handbook of South American Indians, vol. IV, p. 267.)
The Olmec civilization was the first Mesoamerica civilization. Accounts preserved by successor Mesoamerican cultures tell of a great hero, Ce Acatl Topiltzín Quetzalcoatl who taught people to be good. In one account he confronted priests of a capital city in an attempt to stop human sacrifice.
In another legend, still told in Mexico, Quetzalcoatl was feeling ill. His brother Tezcatlipoca, who wanted to be rid of Quetzalcoatl, came up with a clever plan. Drunkenness was forbidden, so Tezcatlipoca disguised himself as a medicine man and offered Quetzalcoatl alcohol disguised as a medicinal potion. Quetzalcoatl drank it, became intoxicated and committed incest.
The translation of Quetzalcoatl means feathered serpent. This is consistent with the biblical seraphim, described elsewhere in this blog. This point is interesting in that he very rarely appears in this form.
Another manifestation of Quetzalcoatl is that of the wind / spirit...The wind is a powerful force.
Another of Quetzalcoatl’s associate forms is the Morning star…In this form he battles the stars that overwhelm the sun at night and as the last star visible before the sun rises he has defeated the stars that seek to destroy the sun (Brundage 110). Ce Actal is also in competition with the sun who eventually overwhelms and destroys him to resume his place in the daytime sky. This is one of the most difficult concepts to grasp in relation to Quetzalcoatl’s complex nature and his relations to Aztec mythology.
The blurring of the identity of the True God and his Melchizedek is easily understood as the Usurper’s Seed of the Serpent’s determination to assume the identity of the Seed of the Woman
The most famous expression of Quetzalcoatl’s is as the high priest Topiltzin. This form is the only one in which he is truly human and is consistent with Eber, the high priest of the Most High God.
4. Melchizedeks Intercede In Judgment – Abraham / Father of Many Nations
“I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them” (Revelation 20:4)
Have the Protestant denominations lost so much knowledge of the essential role of a priest? It is to be a intercessor, an advocate, a spokesman between sinful humanity and righteous God.
“if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father” (I John 2:1)
Yes, John is specifically referring to YHVH’s Chosen Savior at that time in history. But John did not introduce a brand new concept. The role of an advocate priest was essential to all faiths in the millennia preceding John’s letter.
And sure enough we find biblical priests / fathers who offered sacrifices to mediate between the true Creator God and their people long before the Levitical priesthood was established. These are Melchizedekian priests functioning both prior to and after the establishment of the Levitical priesthood.
YHVH is the prototype for the spin-off angry, punitive, thunderbolt-hurling Zeus / Satan.
“And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do…And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now…
Notice that the LORD was simply informing Abraham, not asking for his opinion on his intended course of action.
Abraham put his own life on the line when he acted as advocate / defense counsel for the guilty. To put this in perspective, compare to God’s thunderous response when Job questioned him.
“Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?” (Job 38:2)
“but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?…Peradventure ten shall be found there [not necessarily Abraham’s own children, but Hebrews]. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.” (Genesis 18:17-33)
Don’t assume that Abraham – the Father / Authority of Many Nations was just trying to rescue his own blood kin. Abram father of “a nation” was Hebrew before he became Abraham, and following the example of his “father Eber” he had won Mamre, Eshcol, and Aner, all Amorite giants, to the LORD’s side in this wicked land, demonstrated by their confederacy with him despite being such a minority in Abram’s force of trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen” (Genesis 14:14)
5. Melchizedeks Shepherd the Flock – Moses & Aaron, David
“Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron…David also his servant, [he] took him from the sheepfolds: From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance…we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. (Psalm 77:20, 78, 100:3)
This activity is stated as a primary objective in the Kingdom of God by our penultimate Melchizedek.
“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep…the wolf [such as Nimrod]…scattereth the sheep…And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” (John 10:11-16)
Interestingly, while personalizing this mission, he delegated it to his undersecretaries in the State Department.
“I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel…Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”(Matthew 15:24, 28:18-20)
Yet another example of the oneness of the sons of God filled with God’s Spirit and the multitude of subordinate priests under the High Priest in the order of Melchisedec.
6. Melchizedeks Execute God’s Blessings On All Hebrews – Moses
“And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews / sons of Eber, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me…
- And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.
- And a mixed multitude went up also with them;” (Exodus 10:3, 12-37-38)
“Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle.. And the Philistines were afraid…Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews,” (I Samuel 4:4-9)
“Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also…whereinsoever any is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also. Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.” Quoting the apostle Paul in II Corinthians 11:18-22)
Compare and contrast with How to Order A Papal Blessing. Years ago, every gift shop in Rome sold them – technically, they sold the parchment, then the Pope blessed them. 7. Melchizedeks Submit To God’s Will Unto Death
“I [Paul]charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness...and not to me only, but unto all them also that love / identify with his appearing and reject Antichrist.” (II Timothy 4)
“I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of YHVH’s Savior, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.” (Revelation 20:4)
Kingdom Come
