When Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla were coronated, the King’s Champion, following ancient protocol, led them into Westminster Abbey to challenge anyone who contested the new monarch’s entitlement to the throne to trial by combat in a mano-a-mano duel to the death.
“And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits / 18 in and a span / 9 in”, i.e. almost 10 feet…And the Philistine said, I defy the armies / soldiers lined up ready to fight of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. (I Samuel 17:1-10)
Only David understood – and acted on – the truth that he was able to became one with all the power of creation when he proclaimed
“I come to thee in the name / attributes, characteristics, power of life and death of the LORD / YHVH / I AM / Singularity.”
This is exactly the same identification and empowerment of a police officer arresting someone “in the name of the law” – all the backing of the entire law enforcement agency.
“This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand…that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.”
“And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead [only vulnerable point to disable him]…And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.” (II Samuel 17:4-51)
This is exactly the same as the Greek account of Apollo guiding the Trojan champion Paris’ arrow straight to the only vulnerable point on the Greek champion Achille’s body, in his case his heel. Happening as that had during the Trojan War only about 250 years earlier and not that far away, you best believe that the Philistines, like their Mediterranean cousins the Greeks and Trojans, recognized the superior power of the God of Israel by the results of his champion’s action.
In Western civilization, after Athens famously replaced autocrats / kings with demo-cracy / rule of the people, a very small group of well-healed and self-serving Archons exploited the general population.
When Rome attempted to improve democracy by adding a Senate in a Re-public / “we the People”, again a small group of tight-knit wealthy Senators wielded political and financial power over the people behind a facade of representational government.
In these forms of government, the champion for the people’s rights is the court system. However, here again, according to Aristotle, whoever controls the courts controls the state, i.e. the people’s state of affairs.
I personally learned the value of having a champion at court when I found myself taken to court for non-payment of a ludicrous bill for $10,000 for some minor electrical work. I had some experience in court proceedings serving as an expert witness for attorneys in malpractice cases, and I’m a big fan of Law And Order reruns, and I had all the evidence to rebut the charges, so I thought I could handle my own defense.
Didn’t matter. I did not know, so did not follow, proper court proceedings, so the judge scolded me vigorously for wasting his time and made it clear he was doing me a big favor by, instead of rewarding the plaintiff’s demand for $10,000 and getting me off his docket, setting a new trial date to give me time to obtain representation.
What I did not realize until then was that I needed someone to represent the judges’ attitude on the matter I wanted to present, not someone to represent my attitude on the case, which the judge viewed as disrespectful in expecting him to adjust his ways and means to mine.
Furthermore, my advocate advised me to change my appearance from what I was projecting as a successful professional (this is in the Deep South) to a humble dressed-down grandmother, preferably (I kid you not) with some male relative bearing me up.
I needed a Champion, AKA Advocate, still a synonym today for a defense attorney, a role described back as far in time as Job, who lived shortly after Noah’s flood, where Elihu provides the same service to Job pleading his case to the Judge of All as my defense attorney did for me in pleading my case to a human judge.
“If there be…an interpreter…to shew unto man his [the Judge’s] uprightness {right way of doing things}: Then he [the Judge] is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him…I have found a ransom [the messenger willing to put his own life on the line to face the judge.]
He [not the supplicant] shall pray unto God / the Judge, and he / God /the Judge will be favourable unto him / the Advocate [rather than the supplicant] and he shall see his [advocate’s] face with joy [in contrast to scowling at the supplicant like me]:
FOR he [the advocate] will render / return to the starting point, restore unto man / his [God’s] righteousness.
He [the Judge] looketh upon [sees the way] (hu)men they [are behaving], and if any say [as the advocate told them to say] I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
He / the Judge will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.” (Job 32-33)
This tender Christmas pageant’s adoration holds so much more meaning when it becomes a taunt from a rival team. Think a Latin American soccer match for the World Cup, since you’ll never get this frenzied a challenge even in a Pentecostal church.
“unto US a son – exact duplicate of the God Father – is given!!!!!:
- and the government shall be upon HIS shoulder
- not a tyrant’s!
- and HIS name / attributes shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace
- not warmonger!
- Of the increase / expansion of his- The mighty God’s – government and peace there shall be no end
- in contrast to the inevitably interminable destruction of war by human empires
- upon the throne of David, and upon HIS – The mighty God’s – kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever!!!!!!.” (Isaiah 9:5-7)
Anyone who denies the need for a champion from sin and death needs to take an unbiased look at the media, and an honest look at their own insoluble problems in life and guaranteed end of life.
This is not a Christian religion. This is inclusive of all the children of Adam and his wife – all humanity who never heard the name “Jesus Christ” but whose conscience acknowledges and honors a righteous Creator/Sustainer.
