69) Spirit Possession

All spirits are spin-offs of the Creator Holy Spirit, so regardless of the moral or immoral objective of the spirit’s interaction, they all function in the same way with four dimensional mortals.

a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up: It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying…” (Job 4:12-17)

Ahh, but how can a spirit communicate without the apparatus of speech?

Physically, communication begins and ends as energy patterns in the souls of the sender and receiver. Thoughts can be transmitted without sound waves traveling through air. Ever look deeply into the eyes of your teenage crush?

Psychotic auditory hallucinations are another common expression of this phenomenon. I am not saying that all auditory hallucinations are invariably demonic, simply that the human capacity for hearing thoughts without sound waves being generated is a scientific reality.

The power of the hyper dimensional being flows through the human soul that is joined in one of two ways:

  1. voluntarily by believing the spirit’s promises, and receiving the spirit into one’s heart / control center,
  2. by default from identifying one’s values, ergo choices to do good or bad in one’s behaviors.

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Romans 6:16)

The spirit then takes over the heart – personality, attributes, values, motivations, goals and objectives – and executes them through the actions of the soul’s neurologically-directed body. Whatever the plan by the human, or the lie by the spirit, the objective of the superhuman spirit’s interaction with a human is always to empower the will of the hyper dimensional spirit in the four dimensional world.

We recognize a common distinction between the things that people consider

  • they thoughtfully do, so should be accountable for – such as murder,
  • and what their bodies unintentionally do for which they are not accountable, such as manslaughter.

Exactly as in the concept of Dissociative Identity Disorder, previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder as described in DSM-5.

The key element in this diagnosis is the presence of at least two distinct and separate personalities (alters) within an individual. Only one is manifested at a time; each with its own memories, behaviors and life preferences while multiple alters may take control of a person’s conduct at any given time.

The same attribution of

  • the soul of a person being separate from the body which may – or not – be responsible for the behavior of the body
  • applies to a purely hyperdimensional spirit being

and organizes the ways in which possession is represented.

From What is Spirit Possession? Defining, Comparing, and Explaining Two Possession Forms

The author, anthropologist Emma Cohen, follows up on research published in 1976 in the book Possession by Erika Bourguignon to present scientific evidence that the phenomenon of spirit possession is real, and can be understood by essential human cognitive processes.

Among the Jews at the time of Christ [as reported extensively in the New Testament, but certainly predating that time], beliefs in possession by ‘unclean spirits’ took at least two principal forms. On the one hand, spirits would inhabit a person’s body, speaking through the person to reveal their identity. On the other hand, there were beliefs that entailed the causal attribution of illness or malady (e.g. deafness, paralysis, etc.) to the presence of the possessing spirit in the person’s body.

Pathogenic or unintentional possession is an extremely widespread, cross-cultural notion of a spirit intruding into a person’s body and inflicting misfortune or psychological or physical illness. This concept does not entail the displacement of the person’s identity, ergo does not require, for example, that the person is addressed by the name of the possessing agent as is commonly the case in executive possession episodes..

This clarifies the difference between pathological possession as spirit-as-essence and executive possession as spirit-as-person. As essence, the contamination and loss of bodily control can be due to the spirit exercising control over matter such as bacteria, or non-physical psychological reactions to, say past traumas or overwhelming shocking circumstances. It does not entail or require the displacement or transformation of person-identity, as in executive possession.

Executive or intentional  possession occurs when the spirit entity enters a person’s body to displace what the Bible calls the heart, i.e. the physical brain harboring the neurological energy patterns comprising the soul – thoughts and intention – thus assuming control of behaviors for the duration of the episode.

Shockingly, executive possession by an evil spirit may go undetected by the person, since the subconscious mind can negotiate the mechanics, commands, and simple problems of everyday life effortlessly and automatically even when the conscious mind is taken over by the spirit. Think sleep walking. .Various traditions describe this.

    1. Melville Herskovits writes, ‘The individual thereupon is held to be the deity
      himself.’
    2. In Mayotte possession, ‘Spirits enter the bodies of human beings and rise to their heads, taking temporary control of all bodily and mental functions…Despite the fact that the body remains the same, it is now occupied by a different person (1981: 40).
    3. In Songhay possession, ‘Spirit mediumship results from the temporary displacement of a person’s double [I would interpret this as “ghost, spirit, or soul” by the force of a particular spirit…The medium’s body has become a deity’ (1989 : 31).
    4. Dan Rosengren in his account of human-spirit interaction in the Amazon; ‘the soul of the shaman leaves while the spirit enters his body…the body is something exchangeable which can be worn by various users; metaphorically it is described as the dress, imanchake, of the soul’.
    5. Emma Cohen: When one is possessed, one’s own spirit is said to ‘lie down’, ‘journey to the other world’, ‘dream’, ‘sleep’, or ‘remain watching’ while the body of the medium joins with the spirit entity to make up the new person.
    6. Executive possession shares significant features with concepts of reincarnation, i.e. it is the personality of the possessing spirit re-entering new bodies over time.

When possessed, the host’s body contains a different person-identity, that of the possessing spirit. The new spirit-host entity is identified and addressed as the spirit. Proper names are replaced, old conversations are taken up from where they left off previously. Observed alterations of voice and vocabulary, possibly of language, special abilities to heal and counsel, and apparently miraculous feats are now explainable.

Certain movements, such as Tantrism, Kundalini and Gnosticism, recognize the role of the pineal gland in the spiritual process. The spiritual / instinctive force was seen as a snake, because of the physical structure extending from the genitals, through the spine in one all-seeing eye in the pineal gland. These spiritual systems had focused on the raising of this primordial serpent energy, located in the genitals and lying at the base of the reproductive process. Through certain yoga exercises, breathing techniques, energy and toning exercises this energy can be reversed. It then travels through the spinal cord to the third eye and causes possible “enlightenment.”

Graham Hancock presents a very informative lecture on Gnosticism from the most ancient times. In this lecture he equates ancient gods with modern aliens – beings more evolved than earth’s humans – and is convinced that altered states of consciousness induced by natural substances like ayahuasca breaks the barrier between the physical and spiritual dimension, allowing reception of higher knowledge by these more highly evolved beings.

Seems ridiculous, incredible?

Not when we apply our medical knowledge of invisible infectious agents entering the human body through various routes for the purpose of high jacking the body’s life energy for their benefit.

Some routes carry higher risks of infection than others.

The risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) through unprotected anal intercourse is as much 18 times greater than vaginal intercourse. The reasons for the increased risk are well known and include such factors as:

  • The fragility of rectal tissues, which allow the virus direct access into the bloodstream through tears or abrasions
  • The porousness of rectal tissues, providing access even when undamaged

An unbiased evaluation of all possible causes for this deadly trend in behavior leading to chronic illness and death must factor in the possibility of evil spirit possession. This proposal is substantiated by the change in presentation of many practicing homosexuals – as opposed to the many women infected by carrier men – as androgynous, exactly like spirit beings.

Notions about spirit intrusion and infestation and possession parallel universally held beliefs about  disease and illness the world over that link

  • cause (immediate and secondary), symptoms,
  • prevention (e.g. by means of avoidance)
  • cure (e.g. by means of expulsion and/or cleansing) when the spirit’s demands must be met,
  • and restoration of health and control. by clearing social debts.

Practitioners affirm that possession usually occurs when there is some type of vulnerability or exposure  paralleling what the Bible calls abominations.

Although much rarer in the ethnographic literature, some “pathological” possessions are perceived to cause desirable effects Among the Bigajos Islanders ‘defunct women’ willingly retreat into a temporary trance, are possessed by the spirits of deceased warriors who had not yet undergone spiritual initiation before dying, but through possession of these women’s living bodies they undergo posthumous initiation of themselves as warriors, enabling the men to reach their ancestors’ version of Valhallah.
