I am not one of those people who believe that God sent AIDS as a judgment on sin.
Science validates the biblical record that sinners bring consequences of the natural order of biology on themselves.
Just as with the fruit in the garden of Eden, God warns,
- then he chastens his children which is separate from the natural consequences of sin,
- before he sends judgment on those who have proven that they have rejected him as their father / authority.
Two of Jesus’ disciples provide examples of
- converting after chastening
- or not, and receiving judgment.
From Luke 22:
- “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot [ONLY with Judas’ permission after his faith failed, see Peter’s contrasting response below] being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
- Then…when he saw that he [Jesus] was condemned [was chastened], repented himself…Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood…and hanged himself.
- Judas’ emotional repentance did not change his spiritual state because Judas only perceived Jesus as “innocent”. Judas had no faith in scriptural promise of Jesus as the Seed of the Woman, the Savior from sin and consequently death, through resurrection.
- “godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of:
- but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” (II Corinthians 7:10)
- And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not…thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me…and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
- another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
- And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter [who was cut to the heart by that look, was thoroughly chastened]. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
- And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.”
- “Ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge!” (II Corinthians 7:11) proven by a converting from – a complete reversal of – behavior identifying with, ergo risking his life by publicly associating with Jesus. “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come [the next massive religious public gathering] Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said…Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God hath raised up” (Acts 2)
“The time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” (I Peter 4:12,17)
That’s a rhetorical question from Peter, since Jesus’ detailed answer was well known in his day.
“he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” (Matthew 3:11-12)
“Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is…let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear…For our God is a consuming fire.” (I Corinthians 3:13, Hebrews 12:18-29)
Let me be clear – I am not claiming to be a prophetess with divine knowledge. I’m just an analyst putting together the clues and making an informed deduction. For sure the details match, but could be a “coming to pass” to be repeated in the future, not a “fulfillment” not to be repeated.
It does seem to me however, as a Baby Boomer adult who has lived through society’s transformation , and a psychiatric professional with an excellent record of projecting future behavior based on past and current dysfunction, that America’s increasingly corrupt society has reached a breaking point from which there is no human-led recovery. God either intervenes or Satan wins.
‘Good’ means a lack of self-centeredness. It means the ability to empathize with other people, feel compassion for them, and put their needs before your own. It means, if necessary, sacrificing your own well-being for the sake of others. It means being able to see beyond the superficial difference of race, gender, or nationality and relate to a common human essence beneath them…
‘Evil’ people are those who are unable to empathize with others. They are selfish, self-absorbed, and narcissistic. In fact, other people only have value for them to the extent that they can help them satisfy their own desires or be exploited. This applies to dictators like Stalin and Hitler, and to serial killers and rapists.
No one denies that we’ve become a mean-spirited culture. There are many reasons offered for this.
- social media is driving us all crazy.
- we are more isolated
- as a white-dominated nation is becoming a much more diverse country millions of white Americans are panicking
- high levels of economic inequality and insecurity have left people afraid, alienated and pessimistic.
And obviously, all of these are having an effect. But the deepest issue is that we are no longer schooled in morals: first, helping people learn to restrain their selfishness; second, teaching basic social and ethical skills—things like welcoming a neighbor into a community or disagreeing with someone constructively; and third, helping people find a purpose in life. Further, human beings were seen as creatures who were, by nature, sinners against that moral order. Any sense of an objective moral order is gone. Any sense of transcendent truth is gone.
Social media has helped us become addicted to thinking about ourselves. Couple this with how we see ourselves as the center of the universe. We’re anxious and insecure, sensitive to rejection, and this leads to triggers of distrust and hostility leading to breakdown of relationships. You become estranged from others. We get callous, defensive, distrustful and hostile, leading to violence.
Without a foundation of universal morality guiding personal conduct, good and evil becomes defined by me vs you, broadening into groups of us vs. them as the good guys vs. the bad guys, much of it fueled by resentment – elements of Narcissistic personality disorder.
According to DSM-5, individuals with NPD have most (at least five) or all of the symptoms listed below.
- Grandiosity with expectations of superior treatment by others
- Fixated on fantasies of power, success, intelligence, attractiveness, etc.
- Self-perception of being unique, superior, and associated with high-status people and institutions.
- Needing constant admiration from others.
- Sense of entitlement to special treatment and to obedience from others.
- Exploitative of others to achieve personal gain.
- Unwilling to empathize with others’ feelings, wishes, or needs.
- Intensely jealous of others and the belief that others are equally jealous of them.
- Pompous and arrogant demeanor.
A majority of voters holding these attitudes is exactly how a supra-narcissistic man got elected to the most powerful political office, not only in America, but across the world.
Widely held impressions about Trump’s narcissism are corroborated by the DSM criteria. There have been many narcissistic heads of state before, such as Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, and Hitler. Trump is following the same Dictator No-Rules Book.
Can we recognize that the social, economic and security chaos we Americans are experiencing is a consequence of our own sinful choices?
Suppose we found a way to convert the desperate hunger for ever more, which is both the fuel of empires and the engine of their eventual destruction, into a new contentment with “enough”? What would a United States whose people have enough look like?
It would look exactly like the constitution of God’s kingdom detailed by Moses and the Apostles.
Signs that some of the same factors that fractured the Roman empire back in 476 CE (and other of its iterations since) are distinctly present in this country today – phenomena like gross economic inequality; over-spending on military expansion; political corruption; deep cultural and political fissures; and, oh yes, the barbarians at the gates.
If you need proof that the last superpower, our very own empire, is indeed crumbling, consider four obvious candidates:
Grotesque Economic Inequality: The Romans relied on slave labor for basics like food and clothing. This country relies on super-exploited farm and food-factory workers, many of whom are unlikely to demand more or better because they came here without authorization. Our (extraordinarily cheap) clothes are mostly produced by exploited people in other countries.
The COVID pandemic was used to shutter small businesses to transfer assets from the middle class to the super rich. President Trump’s slashing of federal funding for the middle class and impoverished, with imposition of tariffs that will only increase costs for purchasers, may be the final blow to America’s capitalist economy that depends on consumer spending. Even before the pandemic, more than 10% of US families regularly experienced food insecurity. Now, it’s a quarter of the population.
Wild Overspending on the Military: At the end of 2020, Congress provided a stunning $741 billion to the military for the next fiscal year. A week later, Congress passed the omnibus pandemic spending bill which contained an additional $696 billion for the Defense Department.
Corruption So Deep It Undermines the Political System: In his first term in office President Trump ran one of the most corrupt administrations in US history, marked by placing self-interest and profiteering at the highest levels above the public interest. CREW spent the Trump presidency rigorously tracking these conflicts of interest, cataloguing almost 4,000 conflicts between Trump’s business interests and his presidency and culminating in a deadly insurrection that was rooted in the same self-serving ethos.
While we will never know exactly how much Trump’s corruption paid off, we know it was a lot. According to personal financial disclosures released after he left office, Trump made more than $1.6 billion from the Trump Organization and other outside income during his four years as president. Trump enters his second term with even more opportunities to attract domestic special interest groups’ and foreign governments’ influence peddling through payoffs to his cryptocurrency venture World Liberty Financial, Trump Media & Technology Group, Trump Golf Clubs (as in resorts), Trump World Tower in New York and other commercial properties, and real estate developments in Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
A Country in Ever-Deepening Conflict: Abraham Lincoln quoted scripture that “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” More than 160 years later, the United States clearly not only remains but has become ever more divided. If you doubt that the Civil War is still being fought today, look no farther than the Confederate battle flags proudly displayed by members of the insurrectionary mob that overran the Capitol on January 6th.
Many Christian conservatives saw the battle for the White House as a holy war. Now, as Mr. Trump’s sweeping re-election victory brings them to new heights of power, they believe his return is a divine mandate.
Since surviving an assassination attempt in July Mr. Trump reports that “Many people have told me that God spared my life to save our country and to restore America to greatness.”
“We are rejoicing!” said Jason Rapert, president of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers, which began in 2019 to try to expand Christian influence in government. He called Trump’s election a “Red Sea moment in America,” in which God miraculously delivers his people to freedom.
This is the ultimate abomination that causes desolation – trusting in any other being’s power for salvation from other people’s sin and one’s own irresponsibly-induced death instead of responding in faith to the living word of the God of Genesis and Re-generation.
“Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me…
Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint…Your country is desolate…And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
On our nation’s birthday, President Donald Trump signed into law a nearly 900-page tax and spending bill that will be remembered for its cruelty, cynicism and colossal cost. Masked in patriotic flourish and rhetorical sleight of hand, this legislation is nothing less than a giveaway to the wealthiest Americans and powerful corporations at the expense of the poor, the sick and future generations.
Therefore saith the LORD, the Lord of hosts, the mighty One of Israel…I will turn my hand upon thee…And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.” (Isaiah 1)
Megalomaniacs President Trump of America and Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel are bringing about the next step in Jesus Christ’s coming kingdom.
On February 4, 2025 the Prime Minister of Israel was honored to be the first foreign leader to meet with President Donald Trump. At the subsequent press conference both leaders proclaimed their alliance.
“This is a testament to your friendship and support for the Jewish state and the Jewish people…You are the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House…Israel has never been stronger…But as we discussed, Mr. President, to secure our future and bring peace to our region, we have to finish the job.
And by that, he means “kill our common enemy” the Moslems, specifically at this time the Palestinians, to take over their territory.
