SECTION XVI: The Drowned World Resuscitates

The evidence of a lost ancient civilization is all around us. From the familiar myths and legends of ancient Greece to the less well-known legends of ancient Egypt, Babylon, and even the Americas and Pacific Islands, from the monuments of Stonehenge and Giza to the pyramids of Teotihuacan and the Xi’an, the evidence is overwhelming that an advanced ancient people who understood the size and shape of the earth, sophisticated aspects of astronomy, mathematical concepts such as phi and pi, and the principles of blue-water ocean navigation existed more than four thousand years ago, and then largely disappeared, leaving centuries of relative ignorance in their wake.

The study of prehistory has taken on a startling new direction. Far removed from barbarians or savages, a civilisation earlier than the Sumerian…devoted huge efforts to the construction of massive stone monuments based on astronomical principles.

When most of the academics trained in the study of the ancient world look at pyramids on different continents, they see proof of humankind’s division into distinct, separate civilizations. We see something quite the opposite: compelling evidence of the underlying unity of civilization.

At its most extreme, the orthodox viewpoint goes something like this. Civilization dates to no earlier than the middle fourth millennium B.C. It began in Mesopotamia, then spread to Egypt, and subsequently throughout the Old World. Other civilizations arose on their own – and much later – in the Americas, where they remained disconnected from Asia and Africa until Columbus piloted his three small ships across the Atlantic. The Old World and the New World each invented civilization independently.

I (Schoch) first came to understand there was something wrong with this view while investigating the origins of the Great Sphinx of Giza. As a geologist, I knew that the weathering patterns of the Giza plateau indicated that the Sphinx was carved in stages…That finding raised a significant question. Even a first-draft Sphinx could only have been built by a sophisticated people, one that had achieved civilization well before the 3500 B.C. date when civilization supposedly arose. Who were these unknown people? And what happened to them?…

We argued that civilization arose earlier than generally believed, but much of the early history of humanknd has been lost to natural catastrophes.

Archeological and anthropological evidence validates the biblical history that the fallen angels begat giants who constructed the amazingly precisely astronomically oriented structures like the Giza Pyramid and Stonehenge for purposes as yet unable to be utilized by modern science.

However, even after the catastrophic Flood wiped out the mysteries, like the Greco-Roman Renaissance in 15th Century medieval Europe, the mystery religion was reborn.

According to the biblical account, Nimrod, giant son of Cush, son of Ham, was responsible for resurrecting the antediluvian gods’ program of reaching to heaven.

  • “And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech / Sumerian
  • as they journeyed from the east…they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there…And they said, Go to,
  • let us build us a city / for warfare
  • and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven / to access the gods of the cosmos
  • and let us make us a name
  • lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” (Genesis 11:1-4)

“Making a name” still means “becoming famous”. In this era it signifies joining forces with a god, merging identities and resources as in marriage and adoption, supernaturally empowering the human ruler and humanly empowering the alien spirit access to and control over the material world.

We should be able to recognize that “they” are the elite intent on recreating the antediluvian urban culture, enslaving the masses as laborers and exterminating “useless eaters” in order to amass riches and power to the few at the top of the food chain.

Ancient legends and archeological finds of depictions of flying machines are more likely to be true remembrance of things past than imagination. If Leonardo da Vinci had lived long enough he could have moved beyond research, more likely than not based on antediluvian texts available to him in the Renaissance, to development of these and other war machines.

It only took 300 years for our industrialized European society to get from inventing steam power to rocket power.

The ancient Sumerians had as much time and the pre-flood R&D.  They only needed a work force.

And all the families assembled consisting of about six hundred thousand men…And they began to make bricks and burn fires [possibly a reference to forging metal, the knowledge of which was carried through the flood] to build the city and the tower that they had imagined to complete. And the building of the tower was unto them a transgression and a sin, and they began to build it, and whilst they were building against the Lord God of heaven, they imagined in their hearts to war against him and to ascend into heaven. And all these people and all the families divided themselves in three parts;

  • the first said We will ascend into heaven and fight against him;
  • the second said, We will ascend to heaven and place our own gods there [clearly these are the ones who had been thrown out] and serve them;
  • and the third part said, We will ascend to heaven and smite him with bows and spears…(Jasher 9)

“And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. (Genesis 11:5-9)

The scattering into nations with different languages served to prevent accomplishing the goal of reaching unto heaven, but not ongoing efforts to do so.

As much as they symbolize the mystery and magic of ancient Egypt, pyramids are not uniquely Egyptian. Pyramids of various sorts also appear

  1. in the ancient African kingdom of Kush…
  2. as ziggurats in ancient Mesopotamia…
  3. in England and Ireland, taking such forms as Silbury Hill and Newgrange;
  4. in India and throughout Southeast Asia, in the distinct style of the Buddhist stupa;
  5. at Angkor Wat in medieval Cambodia;
  6. at Indonesia’s Borobudur;
  7. in ancient China;
  8. at Teotihuacán, Tenayuca, Tenochtitlán, and other sites in the Valley of Mexico;
  9. in the ancient Olmec and Mayan realms of southern Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, and El Salvador;
  10. along the Mississippi, at Cahokia and other ceremonial centers;
  11. and in Peru’s coastal region, among the people who were the ancestors of the Inca empire, and in that country’s northern Andes, the Inca heartland…

Could it be that pyramids around the globe share a common cultural heritage?

These questions are the focus of our most recent book, Voyages of the Pyramid Builders: The True Origins of the Pyramids from Lost Egypt to Ancient America (Tarcher/Putnam, 2003). In it we trace the many pyramid-building cultures back to what may be their ultimate source: Sundaland, a continent-sized stretch of land in Southeast Asia (located under the current southern reach of the South China Sea) that was inundated by rising sea levels after the end of the last ice age, a catastrophic event that may have been connected to cometary activity in the skies observed by the inhabitants of Sundaland…

Joseph Campbell, that ever-astute student of mythology, argued that under the world’s many, apparently different mythologies lay an ancient core of common archetypal story, one joining us all. Pyramids carry the same message: All humankind shares a common history, one in which civilization began in a single place and spread across the globe.

Earth’s Earliest Civilizations: “Full Blown – Full Grown”

The Great Pyramid is an unrivaled example of precision-engineering on a massive scale. After the Great Pyramid was built another engineering and construction feat of similar proportions and daunting challenges was not attempted until the Hoover Dam was built in the early 1930s.

How could those incredible ancient Egyptian’s have pulled it off? They didn’t. There is no evidence, in Egypt, of any period of stone building that forms a progression of learning the requisite skills to build the Great Pyramid…

The identical features found in pyramids all around the world supports the Egyptian assertion that they did not invent civilization, but were taught by a hyper dimensional highly advanced civilization to the best of their available human and technological resources. The expertise required to build the megalithic pyramids and align them precisely with the stars rules out purely human effort at the time they were built, and the later pyramidal structures fall far beneath the quality of the first structures.

Professor Everett Borders notes another very important indication of African presence, which is the nature of early American pyramids. Pyramid construction is highly specialized. Ancient Egypt progressed from the original stepped pyramid of Djosser, to the more sophisticated finished product at Giza. However, at La Venta in Mexico, the Olmecs made a fully finished pyramid, with no signs of progressive learning. Olmecian and Egyptian pyramids were both placed on the same north-south axis and had strikingly similar construction methods. Tellingly, all of these pyramids also served the same dual purpose, tomb and temple.

The largest pyramid on the surface of the planet is located in Central America, in present-day Mexico. Called the Great Pyramid of Cholula, this supermassive structure is not only the largest pyramid on the surface of the planet but also the largest monument ever built anywhere on Earth.

The best example of such architecture is located in present-day Illinois where a monument known as the Monks Mounds stands proud and tall.

Completed around 1100 AD, the Monks Mound Pyramid has a base that is much larger than that of the Great Pyramid at Giza. although perhaps not as elaborate in terms of precision and design, Monks Mound is a structure worthy of praise…surveys of the site have revealed that the ancient city once boasted as many as 120 similar structures ranging in size.

The settlement of Cahokia was already an influential metropolis and a large settlement of importance in the Mississippian region approximately one thousand years before the Europeans set foot on the American Continent. It is believed that around 1,000 CE the city grew further in importance thanks to trade and manufacturing. However, surveys of the larger are have revealed that people inhabited the area prior to 1,200 BC.

A stone tablet that dates back to sixth century BC appears to be inscribed with…the Tower of Babel.This is substantial evidence that the tower actually existed…

[W]hat is written about the tower’s appearance and construction matches with the story told in the Bible…

The inscription describes a Mesopotamian-style construction, and the illustration shows that the tower had seven tiers. It also relays that King Nebuchadnezzar II, the most famous ruler in Mesopotamia, was responsible for the tower’s construction.

The text on the tablet reads, “from the Upper Sea, which is the Mediterranean, to the Lower Sea, which is the Persian Gulf, the far-flung lands and the teeming people of the habitations, I mobilized in order to construct this building…
