In many alphabets letters also have a numerical value. This is currently most commonly recognized in Latin with I, V, X, L, C, etc. but is also true in other languages including Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. 

Greek Isopsephy and Hebrew gematria are practices based on the number values of the letters in a word. Think of this like a game of Scrabble where the objective is to accumulate the highest score from the individual letters used to make words. In the case of isopsephy and gematria, the objective is to find other words whose total number score match the total word value of your key word. This opens up hidden, i.e. occult, connections between the words. For example, if the letters in my name add up to 55 my friends would compete to find the word with the same number value to associate with me, say, “turkey” if they’re being funny, or “sunlight” if they’re being nice.

If “Nero Caesar” is written in Aramaic – the common language of John’s day – Hebrew gematria derives the number 6 thousand 6 hundred and 6. The value of knowing this is that the number 666 could then be used to refer discretely to the emperor in any conversation that might blow back on the speaker as rebellious.

Since there was so much uproar in Judea against Nero that he sent legions to quell the rebellion, the common practice of gematria would certainly have been used to discretely refer to him and certainly John’s readers in his day would have understood that 666 meant Nero. Theologians generally accept this to be the case.

There would have been no question to the readers of Paul’s letter as it circulated throughout Roman territory that the “mystery of iniquity” was the current ruler of the fourth world empire who blatantly called himself Augustus Divi Filius / God, son of God, whether Nero Caesar in 54-68 AD or Domitian or the following holders of the title Augustus or Caesar…or whatever.

  • and one is – That establishes without question #6 is the ruler who exiled John to the isle of Patmos at the time this was written as being Dominitian.
  • and the other [the 7th, i.e. last one] is not yet come” (Revelation 17:10)

But when we fact check against the list of Roman Emperors, even when we discount Galba, Otho and Vitellius as never rising above failed contestants for the role, we still count #1 Augustus, #2 Tiberius, #3 Caligula, #4 Claudius, #5 Nero, #6 Vespasian, #7 Domitian.

John reveals the mystery of the discrepancy. One of the first five is not like the others, but is exactly the same as one of the others.

John is not speaking in riddles, he is explaining re-incarnation of Satan’s cloned son Apollo using small words “was, is not, is again. This explains why John counts Domitian as the 6th instead of the 7th emperor. 

Which one of these rulers is this enigmatic being is easily determined. While the title Augustus / Sacred / God Imbued, along with the family name of Caesar, was conferred upon each successive Roman Emperor, Nero claimed to be Apollo incarnate, and Seneca called him the long-awaited savior of the world.  In other words, Augustus / god resurrected.

John states that only 5 of the 6 emperors preceding #7 Domitian are fallen. With this caveat, we can count #1 Augustus, #2 Tiberius, #3 Caligula, #4 Claudius,  Nero = recycling Augustus making #5 Vespasian and #6 Domitian.

Nero is one of the most infamous men who ever lived. 

His reign from 54-68 AD was marked by personal debauchery, paranoia, cruelty and murder of his closest associates, and widespread social unrest. His planned palace would have covered a third of Rome if he had finished it. He may be best understood in comparison to the current day dictator of North Korea.

Kim Il-sung effectively founded North Korea in 1948 and his family dynasty has ruled the country ever since as dictators ruling through “systematic, widespread, and gross human rights violations” executing dissenters.  North Korea spends as much as 25% of GDP on military with the world’s fourth largest army and stockpiling nuclear weapons. One of the poorest countries in the world with few natural or human resources, what is obviously being protected is the supreme leader’s wealth, currently accounted the fifth richest president in the world with an estimated net worth of 5 billion dollars, flaunted in over 17 luxury palatial compounds around the country. Two veteran military analysts of North Korea sounded an alarm in January 2024 asserting that “Kim Jong-un has made a strategic decision to go to war.” Nuclear War by Annie Jacobsen describes in graphic and deeply researched detail a scenario in which an out-of-control leader of North Korea unleashes nuclear Armageddon in which “only the ruthless survive”. Like the President of North Korea and entourage in his underground bunker, planning to emerge like locusts after the air clears from nuclear fallout to claim the world as their own.

Or not. Like an enraged toddler destroying their toys, a megalomaniac ruler vents frustrated aspirations.

Hitler ordered the Nero Decree, named after the Roman emperor Nero (37-68 AD) who was rumored to have set part of Rome on fire in order to clear the land for the construction of his new palace.  With the American entry into German territory, Hitler knew he had lost the war determined to take Germany down with him in flames.

He is not alone. “Après moi, le déluge” lit. ‘After me, the flood‘ is a common French expression. Referencing to the world-destroying biblical flood, this expresses an attitude of indifference to anyone else after one is gone.

It was in this nihilistic environment that the gospel of Jesus Christ was presented by individual converts to their families and friends in the Roman empire of the first century AD.

All in all, no more attractive religion [than Christianity] has ever been presented to mankind. It offered itself without restriction to all individuals, classes, and nations; it was not limited to one people, like Judaism, nor to the freemen of one state, like the official cults of Greece and Rome. By making all men heirs of Christ’s victory over death, Christianity announced the basic equality of men, and made transiently trivial all differences of earthly degree..into a world sick of brutality, cruelty, oppression, and sexual chaos, it brought a new morality of brotherhood, kindliness, decency, and peace…the new faith spread with fluid readiness. Nearly every convert, with the ardor of a revolutionary, made himself an office of propaganda.

As the number and influence of Christians on society grew significantly, Nero was the first Roman emperor to fight back.

Nero instituted the first state-sponsored persecution of Christianity in 64 AD providing Romans with their famously gruesome spectacles of entertainment. Besides the usual torturous crucifixions, Christians were pitted against savage animals, or tied to stakes and covered in tar or pitch before setting them on fire to light up his magnificent gardens for his guests. Under Nero Peter was crucified as a Jewish Christian, and Paul beheaded as a Roman. Nero sent the first permanent Roman occupying military force garrisoned in Judea.

When the patrician class and the army revolted against his outrages against them personally and the Senate condemned him to die on a cross, Nero reportedly committed suicide by cutting his throat. 

But  “a popular legend arose that this evil incarnate Nero would return. At least three leaders of short-lived, failed rebellions presented themselves as “Nero reborn” to enlist popular support.”

These widespread stories support the deduction that John’s veiled number references to Nero all add up to him being a re-incarnation of Satan’s spirit, seen first in Augustus Caesar and to be seen again in the beast / hybrid being yet to come.

In 274, on 25 December, the Roman emperor Aurelian established the cult / total devotion of Sol Invictus / unconquered sun, as an official religion. with Sol Invictus being a spirit rather than a single god, attributed to a number of Roman deities, including Jupiter, Mars, Apollo, the demigod Hercules, as well as human emperors indwelt by the spirit of the Unconquered Sun.

In 284 Diocletian became the new emperor. He would completely change the face of the empire by splitting the bloated, financially and militarily ailing empire into East and West sections, each led by its own co-emperor. He ended the vicious battles for succession by having each Emperor appoint a Caesar – i.e. adopt his successor / heir / only begotten son to serve under him during his reign. A classic Antichrist, Diocletian declared himself a living god, demanding people prostrate themselves before him and kiss the hem of his robe. He wore a jeweled diadem and sat upon a magnificent, elevated throne. From 303 -305 he instituted the worst and most widespread of the persecutions against the early church.

Despite his unmistakable alignment with the pagan god Sol Invictus, Constantine was acclaimed – dare we say idolized? – by the Christians as the Prince of Peace because he ended the persecution of Christians which had reached it worst under his predecessor Dioclecian, and legalized Christianity – ahem – along with all other religions/cults in the Roman Empire.

Constantine’s favorable attitude towards Christianity must be viewed in light of his actions which prove that his formal conversion to Christianity in 312 was realpolitik to align himself with the most appropriate religion that could fit with the imperial cult. Even  Eusebius,one of the Church Fathers, covers up the paganization of Christianity by reporting that “tricennial crowns” were bestowed by the hand of the Christian God on Constantine, when the real vision reliably reported by Constantine was that he was given three [many] wreaths [promised victories] by Apollo while practicing incubation / embodiment for divination at Apollo’s shrine. Constantine is THE prototype for successive Antichrists – claiming to be Christians in their words but denying Christ in their actions.

The Roman Empire, true to Daniel’s prophecy, has never yet caved in. Only the nationality of the Western Empire with the influx of Northern tribes into the Empire changed. These rulers are typically not referred to by their family of name, but by their adoptive family name / dynastic title, that is, Caesar, with variant transliterations into English being Tsar, Tzar, Czar.Hitler’s Third Reich / empire sought to reclaim not only Germany’s glory but Rome’s world-wide empire.

“And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.” (Revelation 17:9)

Current news reporters commonly use a stable physical place to refer to a conceptual government whose leaders constantly change over time, e.g. “The United States and China resumed semi-official nuclear arms talks in March…over Taiwan…Beijing views the democratically governed island as its territory, a claim rejected by the government in Taipei.”

And so does John’s news reporting from 2,000 years ago.

Rome is famous as the city on seven hills, the physical headquarters of the Roman Empire when John transcribed Revelation. We know that over time this capitol moved to Constantinople / Byzantium, then Aachen, Germany.

On the Eastern Front, when in 1453 Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror took Constantinople from the Christians he, like the Western barbarian conquerors, also took the title Kayser-i Rûm, claiming succession to the Roman imperium as an intrinsic aspect of his possession of its territories. His position was supported by a contemporary who stated  “the seat of the Roman Empire is Constantinople … and he who is and remains Emperor of the Romans is also the Emperor of the whole world”.

Anatolia/ modern Turkey and the Balkans constituted the Ottoman Empire’s heartland for the next four centuries, which is none other than the heartland of the ancient Trojans’ / Roman ancestors’ territory regained.

Shah is the Persian version of Caesar. The First Persian (Iranian) Empire was founded by Cyrus the Great in 550 after he took Babylon from the Babylonians. Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Shah-an-shah / King of kings of Iran, was the last ruler to hold the title of Shah from 1941 to 1979. His exile in 1979 ended 2,500 years of monarchy in Iran, replaced by an Islamic system that is still in charge today.

Within decades after the loss of Constantinople to the Ottomans in 1453 Moscow was being called the “Third Rome”, or the “New Rome”. Calculated by the biblical Anno Mundi, that was year 7000 and many in the Eastern Orthodox Church  interpreted biblical prophecies of Gog and Magog, i.e. the Rus’ people to mean the Russians would defeat the Ishmaelites (Muslims) and rule from the City of Seven Hills, interpreted to mean Constantinople. This is not farfetched – even today, Babylon is interpreted to mean Rome in Italy.

The imperial House of Roman-ov / Roman-off dynasty ruled Russia from 1613 to 1917. The clan naming convention is fairly obviously, in that “ov” or “off”, means “of”, is frankly claiming descent from “the Roman.”

the Russian president Vladimir Putin crafted a specific narrative to legitimize the war against Ukraine... Putin made use of christian-imperial history as a ‘usable past’ for him to…mobilize society behind the mission of the Holy Russian Empire…demonize enemies and legitimize their planned destruction…in an overarching apocalyptical, metaphysical scheme, in which death and war are noble goals for Russians to embrace, in order to obtain their place in heaven.

Soon after Vladimir Putin was inaugurated again as President of the Russian Federation in 2018, bombastic music started to echo through the halls of the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow. Canons fired their salutes outside as the orchestra played Glory…While the choir at Putin’s inauguration was accompanying the tune with the Ivan Susanin version that was rewritten at the time of Joseph Stalin which no longer gave glory to the tsar, but instead only of glory to the Russian motherland. Nonetheless, they were doing so at a stone’s throw away from the location where the tsars used to be coronated, in an opera that was commissioned with the personal support of tsar Nicholas I, to a tune associated with the original words and paradigm: “Hail, hail, our Russian tsar! The God-given sovereign tsar! May your royal line immortalize, Through which the Russian people thrive.”

Putin is repeatedly accused of being a tsar, called “Putin the Great” and “Putin the Terrible”, “a new emperor”, or that we should “recognise the tsar” in the Russian president not only by Western authors but Russian too. The jailed opposition activist Alexei Navalny has denounced Putin as a “naked, thieving emperor” and at anti-Putin protests in Eastern Russia, demonstrators chanted “down with the tsar!” in 2020. Interesting enough, strong supporters of Putin make such comparisons too, though in a positive light. A group of conservative Russians, led by influential business magnate Konstantin Malofeev, even wishes to see their current President become the tsar of a Russian constitutional monarchy.

Since 1950 the European Union has been viewed as a reincarnation of a foreign and overbearing Roman Empire in some European countries, particularly the United Kingdom. The 2020 withdrawal of the UK from the Union, or Brexit, has been compared with the end of Roman rule in Britain. Occasionally, the European Union is portrayed as a “Fourth Reich”.

While NATO’s physical headquarters are currently in Brussels, real power resides with the American military, which had, after all, just ridden to the rescue of Europe during WWII, and is the only nuclear power capable of holding Russia’s nuclear arsenal at bay. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was founded on 4 April 1949 in Washington, D.C. with the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty, more popularly known as the Washington Treaty. 

The Aenid’s prophecy that “The mighty Caesar waits his vital hour” is, believe it or not, stamped into the Great Seal of the United States of America, making the President of the United States none other than a mighty Caesar.

“the Seal reflects the beliefs and values that the Founding Fathers attached to the new nation and wished to pass on to their descendants.”

And those beliefs and values are articulated in the motto Novus Ordo Seclorum, meaning “New Order of the Ages, adapted from a line in Virgil’s Eclogue IV.
