“And there came one of the seven angels…I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore…that great city which reigneth over the kings of the earth…upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth…
I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.” (Revelation 17:1-7)
Although the great whore’s name doesn’t come up until her judgment, since her criminal activities occurred during the reign of the 7-headed 10-horned king it is helpful to intersect her story chronologically to get the whole portrait from the beginning.
Let’s go through this complex individual’s identity one attribute at a time.
upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth.” (Revelation 17:1-5)
Mystery = exactly what we understand in any – a compelling unknown that needs to be explained by the expert in the field. “I will tell thee the mystery of the woman.” (Revelation 17:7)
Babylon began with Nimrod and the Tower of Babel, the purpose of which was to reach unto heaven to connect with the eternal gods.
The purpose of the “gateway to God” was not eliminated by the scattering of the people from Shinar, but recreated immediately with Etemenanki, a ziggurat dedicated to the Mesopotamian god Marduk in Babylon. In Akkadian the name Bāb-el-im, means “gate of the gods”.
The Great = Babylon’s religious system was not confined to one city, but spread throughout the world by the scattered peoples wherever they went. Enmerkar and the Lord of Aratta composed in the Neo-Sumerian period (ca. 21st century BC) describes the “confusion of tongues“, and constructing temples at Eridu and Uruk.
Such an old lady as the Whore of Babylon accumulated many names in many languages over time. She is called Ishtar by the Assyrians, Astarte by the Canaanites / Phoenicians, Aphrodite by the Greeks, and Venus by the Romans .
The mother of = “In the Middle East and Greece, the idiomatic expression “the mother of all —” has been used to describe the biggest, most extreme or ultimate examples of various things for more than two thousand years.”
Harlots = According to the Greeks, Semiramis as Nimrod’s consort was co-founder of Babylon. While he focused on politics, she focused on religion, filling Babylon with occult buildings purportedly empowering humans through connection with the gods, but in reality empowering the evil spirits by transferring their human energies in worship practices, especially by sexual practices allowing spirits to enter and indwell their bodies to express themselves in the material domain.
And abominations of the earth = the worst practice was hybridizing angelic DNA into abominations as in the days of Noah to once again destroy humanity through violence and God’s wrath.
Eusebius—a well-respected ancient biblical scholar and historian – identifies Semiramis as the mother/wife of Nimrod engaged in the incestuous process of re-incorporating the spirits of the pre-Flood demi-gods in a new generation of hybrids. This validates the scientifically genetic analysis of Noah’s wife being impregnated by Cush son of Ham in order to match up the giant genes to breed fertile hybrids, just as his brother Canaan had.See the previous posts for details.
However, Annette Griffin, contributing writer to Bible Study Tools, notes “Before we dive into the possible identity of this mysterious woman, it’s important to note that the name Semiramis is not directly mentioned anywhere within the biblical canon of Scripture.
Not true.
Jeremiah spells out the connection between Nimrod / Rebellion and his queen of heaven / spirituality.
“As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto [obey] thee. But we will certainly…burn incense unto the queen of heaven / מְלֶ֣כֶת שָׁמַיִםה and to pour out drink offerings unto her.” (Jeremiah 44:17)
The transliterated Hebrew for “queen of heaven” malkah ha šā·ma·yim is – Semiramis / Heavenly One,
The same title “lady of heaven / Inanna “ dates back to the most ancient Sumerian language as the goddess of love, sensuality, fertility, procreation, and war, the foremost Sumerian goddess, patron deity of the first post-flood city of Uruk. Her name appears in the very earliest written texts from the mid-fourth millenium B.C., i.e. she was certainly contemporaneous with both Nimrod and Sargon of Akkad / Nimrod’s cousin, who claimed her support in battle and politics.
Annette Griffin denies this to be the case, stating that the Semiramis in the Sumerian language is Sammur-amat, a queen regent of the Assyrian Empire who reigned much later than Nimrod, from 811-806 BCE, known as a legendary warrior who exercised political power and was also a rare beauty. Mistaking this later era individual, “Countless other historians and scholars have written volumes about Semiramis—transforming the historical Queen Sammu-ramat into the legendary Queen Semiramis.”
Seriously? Two prominent women in history can’t have the same name? Rulers have forever represented themselves as the re-emergence of an historically famous ruler. For example, during the height of the British empire the brand new heir-apparent was christened with the most prestigious king’s name in European history, becoming the current King Charles III of England,
For those unfamiliar with European history, this is a deliberate association by the British monarchy, whose empire at that time straddled the entire world, with Western Europe’s first Roman Emperor Charles I, AKA Charles the Great / Charlemagne who became Western Europe’s first Holy Roman Emperor on Christmas Day 800. Another six Holy Roman Emperors were named Charles or Karl, and many of the kings of France were called Charles. This fact establishes Charles’ III christened objective to achieve the same greatness.
And if we can’t accept the weight of evidence in legends describing Semiramis that have been recorded by approximately 80 ancient writers. and even, “according to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society website, America’s own Statue of Liberty…derived from the imagery of Queen Semiramis of Babylon”, then we can’t accept the reality of any ancient historical figure.
The writer is either woefully ignorant or deliberately misleading her readers. The article in which that author argues against any historical validation of the biblical character Semiramis is found in Bible Study Tools, so carries an authoritative opinion for ignorant readers looking for a quicky answer without studying the subject themselves and establishes the author’s – and Bible Study Tools – adversarial position on the subject.
The author’s objective becomes clear when she denies any future relevance of a biblical Whore of Babylon.
“One of the more recent renditions of the ever-evolving lore of Semiramis was included in the book The Two Babylons, written in 1853 by a Scottish minister, Alexander Hislop. In the book the author affirms Eusebius’s claims that Semiramis was Nimrod’s wife and…asserts that Semiramis was instrumental in Nimrod’s plan to rebel against God…together, Nimrod and Semiramis created a polytheistic religious system focused on the stars to lure God’s chosen people away from true worship. Shortly after Nimrod died, Hislop reports that Semiramis earned the title Queen of Heaven—when she claimed that Nimrod was a god and that her newborn son was Nimrod, reincarnate. “So began…the whole paraphernalia of the Babylonian religious system.”
This “Bible Study Tools’ author’s objective is clearly to deny the whole concept of a religious system to lure God’s chosen people away from worshipping him in righteousness, when clearly that has happened!
The “Whore” of Babylon references the originally female religious system that, in partnership with the always male political ruler, corrupts humanity, The “Whore” of Babylon contrasts with “the “holy city”, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared “as a bride” – espoused you to one husband, a chaste virgin– adorned for her husband.” (Revelation 21:2)
In the Hebrew language where entities are attributed gender, the city / civil-ization of Babylon is female.
“Put yourselves in array against Babylon…for she hath sinned against the LORD.” (Jeremiah 50:14)
“Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD‘s hand, that made all the earth drunken:” (Jeremiah 51:7)
The first biblical reference to Babylon affecting the evolution of faith and its cultural impact across millenia are found in the Old Testament.
“Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you…
but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel...thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities…Thy first father [top authority, High Priest] hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me. Therefore I have…given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.“ (Isaiah 43)
This was fulfilled on Judah by the Babylonian captivity about 600 BC.
When the Babylonians expelled the Jews from Judea, they destroyed the Temple completely. Jewish law stipulated that certain important aspects of Jewish religious life — most notably animal sacrifice — could only be performed at the Temple in Jerusalem…This new focus gave rise to a new class of professional clergy within Judaism, the rabbi…a spiritual leader tasked with explaining God’s expectations to the common people…
During the period of captivity, Jews continued to…develop their religious traditions, many of which became distinct from their origins, due to the influences of the local culture…Many of the exiles, finding themselves in comfortable circumstances, assimilated into Babylonian society in ways that Ezekiel denounced as “a rebellious house.”
- 12,000 men, or in all 36,000 to 48,000 souls…about 25% of the population – was led captive into Babylonia…
- After 70 years, Israel’s population could be expected to have tripled, however, only about 1,800 men, or 5,500 to 6,000 souls – 1.25% – returned with rulers Ezra and Nehemiah who consequently experienced great difficulties in establishing the post-exilic Jewish community on home turf.
And even once these 3rd-4th generation Babylonian Jews got back home, many didn’t change their Babylonian religion.
“the princes came to me [Ezra], saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites…yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.” (Ezra 10)
So we can’t limit the Whore of Babylon’s address to modern day Iraq. She travels.
From a different book review on Hislop’s book: “The Two Babylons: Or, the Papal Worship Proved to Be the Worship of Nimrod“ is a thought-provoking exploration that unveils intriguing parallels between ancient religious practices and modern-day worship…This fascinating study not only reveals the historical underpinnings of certain religious practices but also invites readers to ponder the evolution of faith and its cultural impact across millennia. Through engaging prose and compelling evidence, “The Two Babylons” presents a thought-provoking narrative that will intrigue anyone curious about the intersection of ancient history, religious traditions, and their relevance in the modern world.”
This is not going to be tolerated by YHVH in the 21st century any more than when it was denounced by the Old Testament prophets.
“Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against
- Babylon
- AND against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind.” (Jeremiah 51:1)
These are Babylon’s associates – diplomats from allied nations and a multitude of businesses and traders getting in on her wealth who are defined as “thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures.”
Number One is certainly Israel itself.
The Fundamental Agreement between the Holy See and the State of Israel deals with the property rights and tax exemptions of the Catholic Church within Israeli territory, supplemented by an Additional Protocol that details the establishment of normal diplomatic ties between the Holy See and Israel. Ratified and signed in 1994 it entered into force in international law, with the Vatican appointing an apostolic nuncio to Israel and Israel appointing an ambassador to the Vatican.
Next in line for retribution is the United States, not only for its support of Israel’s wickedness but as a tour of Washington’s most prominent landmarks makes clear, the American city was the product of a deliberate, concerted effort to make itself the capital of the Roman empire.
Which it has, proven by having become the richest country in the world by GDP of $22.996 trillion and makes up 24% of the total global economy, and the strongest military power in the world.
Without even counting its alliances, the US alone has a budget of $738 billion, 1,388,000 men and women in the armed forces, 6,125 nuclear weapons, 11 aircraft carriers, 68 nuclear submarines, 3,761 military aircraft, 867 attack helicopters, 6,209 tanks, and 113 warships. Russia is second by a long shot with a budget of $43.2 billion, 1,000,000 men and women in the armed forces, 6,500 nuclear weapons, only 1 aircraft carrier, 28 nuclear submarines, 1,379 aircraft, and 70 warships.
The US fought its way to the top of the heap by endless war. Since its inception in 1776, the US has fought 108 wars and counting.
And building alliances with strong allies.
The Holy See is the universal government of the Catholic Church and operates from Vatican City State, a sovereign, independent territory. The Pope is the ruler of both Vatican City State and the Holy See. The Holy See, as the supreme body of government of the Catholic Church, is a sovereign juridical entity under international law…
The United States maintained consular relations with the Papal States from 1797 to 1870 and diplomatic relations with the Pope, in his capacity as head of the Papal States, from 1848 to 1868, though not at the ambassadorial level. These relations lapsed in 1870 with the loss of all papal territories during the unification of Italy. The Vatican City State’s territorial independence was reestablished in the Lateran Treaty signed by Italy and the Holy See in 1929….The United States and the Holy See announced the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1984.
The United States and the Holy See consult and cooperate on international issues of mutual interest, including human rights, peace and conflict prevention, poverty eradication and development, environmental protection, and inter-religious understanding… The United States and the Holy See work together on shared priorities, such as promoting religious freedom.
Who can argue against such lofty ideals?
God. The claim that there is any such thing as religious “freedom” is dead wrong. There is only one religion that give the promised eternal life – acknowledging the Singularity God of Creation and Life. All alternate religions are lies that lead to death and the Creator of Humanity is deeply offended.
