2) Time vs Infinity

in 1859, Charles Darwin, a deacon in the Church of England, published Origin of Species  which…challenged conventional Christian belief in the literal truth of the biblical creation story.

By the end of the nineteenth century, the findings of Darwin and the Higher Critics had been embraced by…influential figures in the media, universities and seminaries. The largely upper-class and urban people who accepted the new learning became known as modernists or liberals…

a movement began that opposed modernism vehemently and affirmed the literal truth of the Bible. Building on a long tradition of anti-intellectualism on the American frontier, these Christians would come to be known as fundamentalists.

Many people have become agnostics because of the supposed conflict between the Bible and science.  In truth, there is no conflict at all between a correct translation of the Bible and really proven science

science knows human beings have lived on the earth far longer than the few thousand years covered by the Bible…

the truth is that the Bible nowhere says that Adam was the first man…— it merely says that Adam was the first man of a new [creation] or the White race. [Note the failure to provide the biblical reference for this statement.]

The many mis-translations in the King James Bible obscure much of the truth… see Rotherham’s Emphasized Bible…

we do find buried ruins of cities older than Adam — and skeletons which can be dated by the Carbon 14 process as many as thousands of years older — but the Bible itself tells us about this.

In Genesis 3, verse 3, when Eve tells Satan that God has said that they must not touch the fruit of the Tree of Good and Evil, the word there translated “touch” is the Hebrew word “th gou” meaning “to lie with, to have sexual intercourse with,” which plainly shows that…there were other people in the world at that time.

We are told that the Garden of Eden contained the Tree of the Knowledge — or experience — of Good and Evil.  Now, no tree of the forest has any knowledge or experience of either good or evil.  And the 31st chapter of Ezekiel says,

Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar…the fir trees were not like his boughs and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was likened to him in his beauty. I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden that were in the garden of God envied him.

Obviously, the trees in the garden of the Lord in Eden were family trees of races and nations who admired and envied the early Assyrian empire — for an ordinary wooden tree can’t envy anybody.  These races and nations made up the garden that Adam was to cultivate.  That is, Satan had been what we might call the superintendent or governor of this planet — to rule it in obedience to God’s will — until he forfeited that position by rebellion against God.  Adam was sent to take his place — it was Adam’s job to rule the various nations and races of the earth as God’s representative here, educating them in God’s laws and enforcing obedience to those laws.  These other races and nations had been here many thousands of years before Adam. [Emphasis added.]

Therefore the Bible makes it unmistakably clear that we are not all descended from Adam and Eve.

The Gap Theory states that God – however you care to define him – “created” or in some way “caused to be” a formless, void, and dark earth, like a black hole, then exploded it, fitting the biblical report into the materialist astronomer’s Big Bang Theory.

The gap theory also has the advantage that it allows Christians to apparently reconcile the Bible with the belief of secular scientists that the Earth is extremely old – billions of years old…

The gap theory is not consistent with the clear teaching of Scripture, that God created heaven and earth and everything within them in the span of six days (Exodus 20:11).

So fundamentalist biblical opponents of the Gap Theory fiercely oppose evolution and defend creationism by insisting that everything in Genesis 1 occurred in seven 24-hour days.

Let’s be true scientists and examine the claims of liberals and fundamentalists objectively.

The Creator described in the Bible no more needs 24 hours than he needs billions of years to create either the old or the new creation. We cannot judge the circumstances of creation week by current conditions. YHVH operates outside the confines of our four-dimensional space-time.

“be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (II Peter 3:8)

“as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly…In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye…we shall be changed.” (I Corinthians 15:49-52)

“the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God.” (I Timothy 1:17)

Eternity is not longer time. It is the opposite of time. It is time-less-ness.

It is infinity, which cannot be measured. It has neither beginning nor end.

Eternity is a dimension that can’t be understood by those who haven’t transformed from mortal to immortal any more than colors can be described to someone who is colorblind or music to someone who has been deaf from birth.

Eternity is defined by the infinite Singularity’s control over E=mc2. This is manifest throughout the entire 1st chapter of Genesis.

“…eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world / chronos / times began / aionios / a very long time ago.” (Titus 1:2)

This verse is an example of both the benefits and the confusion that comes from having different translations of the Bible. In this instance, the different translations of the phrase chronos aionios should help clarify the meaning – “the beginning of time, the world began, ages began.”  The common denominator to the different translations is that there was a beginning to time.

Physicists agree that time had a beginning.”

Time is defined by deterioration. Time does not begin until the Singularity’s designated driver of the universe disconnects from the source of infinite energy, beginning the count-down to death of all creation.

Scientific time is defined by measuring the intervals between repeated significant events, such the change in relative position of the earth to astronomical bodies or the decay of radioactive isotopes.

Historic time is defined by assigning a starting point and measuring standardized intervals between events. National histories are typically dated by the reigns of their kings. At the beginning of one historical novel set in Britain’s dark ages, the fictional narrator dates his story from three perspectives –

  1. for the Celts, when the Roman oppressors left Britain and they regained their freedom;
  2. for the Saxons, when they drove the Celts out of the choicest land;
  3. for the Christian converts, when their Lord Jesus Christ was born.

The point is, there are many sources from which to develop a chronology of events we define as “time”.

…while archaeologists can understand how people/objects/events relate to one another, they cannot always assign exact—absolute—dates to everything. As Warburton explains:

We basically employ every possible means available, combining (1) relative “typological” and “stratigraphic” chronologies with (2) textual sources recording astronomical observations, dates relating to kings and/or buildings, etc., and (3) more precise means such as radiocarbon dating and dendrochronology, along with (4) numismatic evidence linked to archaeological contexts and textual sources.

A geological earth calendar based on measurements of things like radioactive decay is not documented in the Bible. What is documented is the doleful tolling of the deaths of men.

And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died….And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died…” (Genesis 5:3-8)

This did not occur until the 7th day of creation, as a result of the Adams’ sin / violating a law of physics, as we shall see as we proceed.

“by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12)

This timekeeping is consistent with the theme of the Bible being the history of humanity – not the physical universe which is simply the setting for humanity. Human time had a beginning – when death began – and an end – when death is destroyed.

“And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished...And the seventh angel sounded.(Revelation 10:5-7, 11:15)

So when…this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” (I Corinthians 15:53-54)

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea…and there shall be no more death...” (Revelation 21:1-4)

If we base our interpretation of a creation “day” on a biblical model rather than our assumptions, we find that the creation “day” is not a spacetime quantity.  It is a spiritual quality.

Right in the passage “day” is defined as a state of being of light.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.” (Genesis 1:5)

The creation day is characterized by a condition when God is in control and personally active as the light of the world, which like the sun, energizes all life on earth.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was GodAll things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men…” (John 1:1-4)

“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (John 9:4-5)

Obviously Yahweh’s Savior / Jesus is not referring to 12 hours of daylight. His dedicated servant Paul confirms this interpretation, reporting that he worked tirelessly even during the earthly night to accomplish God’s work.

“For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.” (I Thessalonians 2:9)

God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (II Corinthians 4:5-6)

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;” (I Peter 2:9)

In contrast to God’s day, the darkness of night is characterized by the absence of God’s presence and activity.

“God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.” (I John 1:5-6)

The Hindu religion has maintained ancient records out of which we can pull a more accurate spiritual perspective about the difference between mortal and immortal, time and eternal, as opposed to Western civilization’s materialistic frame of reference.

According to them, the gods were immortal…subject to a different time frame and had their own periods of activity and rest. These constituted their days and nights.

When the highest Supreme Self was awake, they believed, He would expand outwardly and manifest his objective worlds…In Hinduism time…exists only so long as we are bound to the things of this world through our senses [mortal body]... In God’s consciousness there are no divisions of time.

There is only the present moment, one continuous, indivisible and indistinguishable state of existence.”

God doesn’t just stop being active in the night.  He is driven out – by his own people – who replace him with a false god of light and life. This didn’t happen once, but persistently.

Notice the progression of apostasy that inexorably drives “the light of the knowledge of the glory of God” from his dwelling place, replacing it with the works of darkness.

“the hand of the Lord God fell there upon me…and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem,

  1. to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy. And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there…Then said he unto me…Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? But turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.
  2. ...And he brought me to the door of the court...And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here. So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about…He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
  3. Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD’s house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. Then said he unto me…turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.
  4. And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD’s house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east. (Ezekiel 8:1-16)

Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court. Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory…Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house.” (Ezekiel 10:3-4,18)

pp387-marvelThis documents that night is not simply the absence of daylight, it is the opposite of daylight, with its own works, characterized by destructive forces opposing God’s life-giving work.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:” (Colossians 1:12-13)

“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk [live our lives] honestly, as in the day...” (Romans 13:12-13)

In our Western (pagan Roman) culture each 24 hour day is calculated, significantly, to begin in the middle of the nighttime, i.e. mid-night, at 2400 hours by military time, or 12:00 am by civilian reckoning. Night is interrupted by daylight ~ 6:00 am, then resumes ~ 6:00 pm and wraps up the 24 hour day and merges during nighttime hours into the next 24 hour day.

hours-clock-dial-vector-illustration-full-day-127287727 118ye-image2bjewish2bday2bby2bhour

The biblical day is the opposite. Each day begins in the middle of the daytime, i.e. noon at 12 p.m., is interrupted by nighttime from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, resumes the next morning at daybreak until noon, at which time the next day begins.

If we apply this to what the Bible teaches about light and darkness, especially that there is no darkness at all in God, then the following sequence of events unfolds during the creation week.

  1. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth
    1. [All light, no darkness at all. Evening of creation day
  2. And [something happened and] the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was [superimposed by something other than God] upon the face of the deep[Works of darkness during Night 1.]
  3. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be [command performance, NOT creation of] light: and there was lightAnd God saw the light, that it was good: [Restoration of creation on the MORNING of creation day 1.]

and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening [midday to darkness and [two separate periods of time] the morning [daybreak to midday, roughly 6:00 am to noon] were the first day.” (Genesis 1:1-5)

The theme of the Bible is stated at the very beginning of the book, in the second sentence immediately after the statement of creation. The struggle for control of the world continues to be expressed throughout the entire first chapter at the most elementary level in the enigmatic recounting of “the evening and the morning.” Each creation day has the unspoken acknowledgment of the interjection, in the middle of each day’s work, of the opposing forces of darkness.

Night: Creation is plunged into destruction and darkness because of iniquity by them.

“…they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge. I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.” (Jeremiah 4:22-23)

Who are they? I contend (that’s a pun) that God didn’t give us more detail in Genesis because everybody knew the story back when the Bible was written. For sure it was written up in the ancient Sumerian account of creation, the Enuma Elish. It is only recently that a culture that prides itself on universal education has become so ignorant, therefore so vulnerable to the Adversary’s lies.

For starters, we know in context that they are immortal because time as a measure of human death hasn’t happened yet. This inference is further confirmed by the recounting of creation in Job where the angels must be in existence before the earth in order to be able notice and praise it. This is immediately followed by God’s reproof. Some of those angels rebelled through pride, in particular, a crooked serpent.

“when I laid the foundations of the earth…laid the corner stone thereof…the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy…commanded the morning…and caused the dayspring to know his place; That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it…they stand [still] as a garment. And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken. (Job 38:4-15)

He…hangeth the earth upon nothing…The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof…and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud…the crooked serpent.” (Job 26:7-12)

The nights of creation week can be envisioned as something like the London Blitz.

The power of light and life being opposed by the power of darkness and death shouldn’t even need explanation. This is not at all unique to creation. History is essentially a list of wars. Virtually every episode in the Bible is based on the theme of evil adversaries destroying God’s people and property during a terrible dark night.

Do you want to be on the winning side? Join God who fights back and triumphs!

He [God] is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered? Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger. Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble. Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.” (Job 9:3-7)

What is God’s weapon? The same unique power that formed the universe in the first place. His word.

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my [the Savior’s] words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war…and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword [think sonic weapon], that with it he should smite the nations…

And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords…And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword [weapon] proceeded out of his mouth” (Revelation 9:11-21)

The voice that thundered the universe into being – the real Big Bang – is the same voice that shouts his troops to follow him into battle to end the rebellion.

Studying the Bible is not just a matter of cultural-religious identity, or living right, or solving problems. It is a matter of life and death for humanity! Whose side will you be on? The word of truth, or the lie of the adversary?

shepherdThose pictures of blonde Jesus in a snow-white robe cuddling a lamb and petting children? He had one garment he wore day and night, sweating while striding through dust and dung for 3 1/2 years. As a Nazarene he hadn’t ever cut his long hair and beard. You’d get a more accurate picture visualizing a desert nomad, or closer to home, a mentally ill homeless man. Our placid lives and sanitized Sunday school stories have failed to give us a proper understanding of the Bible. It helps to put biblical words into suitable graphics. It’s rough, it’s tough, it’s dirty and bloody. It’s the true Game of Thrones.

Geological evidence of destructive forces at work – i.e. the interjection of geological time – correlates to the nights of Genesis 1. The sequence of events unequivocally informs us that the destructive forces of primeval waters were used as a weapon. This is validated not only by the Adversary’s Sumerian account of this era in which he claims the Apsu / Abzu, the primeval deep / waters as his own, but by by the physical evidence left behind.

the worldwide flood (aka The Flood)…is a scientific matter that involved a very large comet-like object impacting Earth about 12,800 years before present  in what is now the Southern Ocean. By comet-like, I mean that it was primarily composed of ice, that it was porous, and that it was fragile; comets are fragments from this class of larger celestial bodies. Due to its composition and size, the impacting object (IO) delivered a nearly unimaginable amount of water that inundated abyssal landscapes. The newly introduced water transformed the planet in a matter of weeks,

Geologists will immediately dismiss any claim that there was a worldwide flood because one of their science’s primary axioms holds that The Flood never occurred. For those unaware, the reason that present-day geology has us believing that there was never a flood is due to Adam Sedgwick. A renaissance man of the early 19thcentury, Sedgwick was a Cambridge University professor, an ordained minister in the Church of England, and the president of the Geological Society of London. Seeking evidence of The Flood, Sedgwick and his geologist colleagues set about Europe searching for remnant sediments and formations. But the sought-for confirmation did not exist. So, after considerable reflection, Sedgwick concluded that there was never a worldwide flood…

Yet Sedgwick erred. From the evidence before him, Sedgwick should have concluded: presently exposed landscapes were never inundated by a common flood. That is an indisputably correct statement, yet different from the claim that there was never a worldwide flood. Sedgwick went too far: he passed judgment on the morphology of vast, submerged landscapes that he could not observe. He assumed that Earth’s present amount of water has always been here.

Because of its far-reaching consequences, Sedgwick’s ‘no worldwide flood, ever’ conclusion will eventually gain universal recognition as the most profound error in the history of science. Folks, it’s not even close: “no flood, ever” adversely affects our understanding of who we are, where we are from, and what has happened to our planet. For the past 200 years, we have had it all wrong.

The Enuma Elish openly reports waters as the forces of destruction used by the Adversary.

“Then the lord raised up the flood-storm, his mighty weapon.”

The Bible does as well, if we take what is said at face value in the context in which it is written.

You “…there shall come in the last days scoffers…saying…all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world iblical explanation in the post on God’s flood war.]

Bear in mind, acknowledging geological evidence per se does not require one to accept every theory formulated by scientists, who themselves argue their controversial theories among themselves. On the other hand, once “time” is defined as a measure of destruction then we must acknowledge that time did pass during the nights of Genesis 1.

Geological findings also indicate that meteors and comets have bombarded the earth, bringing massive quantities of elemental materials used to assess the passage of time, such as radioactive carbon dating. These findings support the biblical prophecies of future recurrences of stars, i.e. lights in the sky, falling to earth and wreaking great distruction.

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:29-30)

“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” (Revelation 6:12-17)

An impact event is a collision between astronomical objects causing measurable effects…

Major impact events have significantly shaped Earth’s history…

there have been five generally accepted major mass extinctions that on average extinguished half of all species. One of the largest mass extinctions…killed off 90 percent of all species…

In 1980…[scientists] discovered unusually high concentrations of iridium in a specific layer of rock strata in the Earth’s crust. Iridium is an element that is rare on Earth but relatively abundant in many meteorites…This iridium layer at the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary has been found worldwide at 100 different sites. Multidirectionally shocked quartz (coesite), which is normally associated with large impact events or atomic bomb explosions, has also been found in the same layer at more than 30 sites. Soot and ash at levels tens of thousands times normal levels were found with the above…

Probably the most convincing evidence for a worldwide catastrophe was the discovery of the crater which has since been named Chicxulub Crater…centered on the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico…180 km (110 mi) in diameter…

An impact event is commonly seen as a scenario that would bring about the end of civilization. In 2000, Discover Magazine published a list of 20 possible sudden doomsday scenarios with an impact event listed as the most likely to occur…

In the early history of the Earth (about four billion years ago), bolide impacts were almost certainly common… Such impacts could have included strikes by asteroids hundreds of kilometers in diameter, with explosions so powerful that they vaporized all the Earth’s oceans. It was not until this heavy bombardment slackened that life appears…

in January 2020, scientists reported that the oldest recognised asteroid impact occurred in Western Australia more than 2.2 billion years ago.

Two 10-kilometre sized asteroids are now believed to have struck Australia between 360 and 300 million years ago…creating a 400-kilometre impact zone. According to evidence found in 2015 it is the largest ever recorded.

The dates attributed to these events are impossible to determine scientifically, so often billions of years are attributed to remain consistent with the time requirements of evolution. And yet the same scientific fields of study warn that humans are destroying the earth in just a few hundreds of years.

Two main premises determine widely divergent results of calculations.

Geologists haven’t always agreed about the history of our planet. They have debated between catastrophism and uniformitarianism over the last few hundred years…
