3) Time

Key Precept: Eternity cannot be measured in space-time units.

Stepping stone on the path to eternal life: Understand that eternal is an entirely different dimension from time.

  1. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
  2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
  3. And God said, Let there be light…and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” (Genesis 1:2-5)
  • The first sentence in the Bible creates conflict between believers and unbelievers over the report of creation of form and function vs evolution by spontaneous generation.
  • The second sentence creates conflict between believers over how it happened.
  • The last sentences create conflict between how long it took.

in 1859, Charles Darwin, a deacon in the Church of England, published Origin of Species which…challenged conventional Christian belief in the literal truth of the biblical creation story.

By the end of the nineteenth century, the findings of Darwin and the Higher Critics had been embraced by…influential figures in the media, universities and seminaries. The largely upper-class and urban people who accepted the new learning became known as modernists or liberals…

a movement began that opposed modernism vehemently and affirmed the literal truth of the Bible. Building on a long tradition of anti-intellectualism on the American frontier, these Christians would come to be known as fundamentalists because they affirmed five fundamental beliefs put forth in a series of pamphlets:

  • biblical inerrancy
  • the virgin birth
  • the miracles of Jesus
  • the bodily resurrection of Jesus
  • the doctrine of substitutionary atonement

It was among these people, primarily in rural areas and largely in the South, that Darby’s ideas found fertile ground.

Then, in 1909, a Texan named Cyrus Ingerson Scofield (1843-1921), published the Scofield Reference Bible, a King James Version that contained extensive footnotes demonstrating how various biblical passages supported the ideas of premillennial dispensationalism. It became a best-seller. It was largely through the influence of Scofield’s notes that dispensationalism became influential among fundamentalist Christians… [emphasis added]

Proponents of dispensationalism claim to be biblical literalists…

It is telling that persons whose identity is based on the doctrine of biblical inerrancy rely on the new teachings of latecomer John Darby and the extensive footnotes of Cyrus Schofield. As detailed in the post The End of the Word, this is in direct contrast to the biblical standard of reliance on the written word, to which even God holds himself. What happened to “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:” (Revelation 22:18)?

“Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” (II Peter 1:12-20)

It is most telling that Dispensationalism relies on direct revelation by a spirit. Note the first sentence by a dispensationalist teacher.

The Holy Spirit reveals there is a time-gap between the first two verses of the Old Testament. This is not the only time-gap in the Old Testament; there are two (2) others. There is the “gap” in the Old Testament between the first and second comings of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is commonly called the “Church Age” or the “Age of Grace.” The other is the 1,000 year Millennial reign of the King of Kings, the Lord Jesus Christ, which will be here on the Earth after His second coming and before the final great Judgment Day, followed by the creation of the New Heaven and Earth in eternity. The late Clarence Larkin referred to these Old Testament “gaps” as Valleys between the peaks of prophecy. The illustration below is a schematic of this line of reasoning:

All three of these Scriptural Old Testament “gaps” or valleys have one thing in common: These are things that are spiritually discerned through the Holy Spirit, spelled out plainly in the New testament, which sheds light on what is written in the Old Testament. The Holy Spirit reveals these things through the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ – the source of all true wisdom. (See Revelation 19:10 & Colossians 2:2-3).  The Spirit of Prophecy certainly looks forward into the future, but it also can look backward into the past and you will be able to see this in the KJV Holy Bible. Keep in mind that what transpired in the past directly sets the course for what will happen in the future. This is why it is essential to understand why there is a gap between the first two verses of the Bible.

When we broaden our horizons, Bible-believing Christians can recognize Darby’s Dispensationalism for what it is. One of the many new religious movements that sprang up in the late 19th century on the basis of “new revelation.”

New religious movement (NRM), the generally accepted term for what is sometimes called, often with pejorative connotations, a “cult.”

NRMs are characterized by a number of shared traits…they offer innovative religious responses to the conditions of the modern world, despite the fact that most NRMs represent themselves as rooted in ancient traditions. NRMs are also usually regarded as “countercultural”; that is, they are perceived (by others and by themselves) to be alternatives to the mainstream religions of Western society, especially Christianity in its normative forms…The new movement is usually founded by a charismatic and sometimes highly authoritarian leader who is thought to have extraordinary…insights. Many NRMs…often make great demands on the loyalty and commitment of their followers and sometimes establish themselves as substitutes for the family and other conventional social groupings…They are also products of and responses to modernity, pluralism, and the scientific worldview.

Some NRMs are characterized by an apocalyptic or millenarian dimension—the belief that the end of the world is imminenthas formed the backdrop for the development of many of the NRMs in the West.

Among the first new religions in the United States were the Seventh-day Adventists and the Jehovah’s Witnesses, both the products of millenarian fervour set off in the mid-19th century by William Miller (1782–1849). Miller predicted that Christ would return to earth sometime in 1843 or 1844. The Seventh-day Adventists, formed under the leadership of one of Miller’s followers, the prophet and visionary Ellen G. White (1827–1915), and the Jehovah’s Witnesses (a successor of the International Bible Students Association), led from 1917 by Joseph Franklin Rutherford (1869–1942), continue to believe in the imminent return of Christ and the end of time…

In the 1970s an ordained Methodist minister named Jim Jones (1931–78) moved his congregation (called the Peoples Temple) from the United States to the jungles of Guyana, where he attempted to create…“apostolic socialism,” a version of Christianity that was influenced by contemporary Marxistliberation theology. Jones, an increasingly authoritative and paranoid personality, warned his followers that a devastating thermonuclear war was impending. In 1978, after a group of concerned family members (led by a U.S. congressman) visited the group’s commune, Jones and his followers (913 persons in all) committed what Jones called “revolutionary suicide” rather than submit to what they thought would be an attempt to compromise their community…

A similar tragedy befell the Branch Davidiansan offshoot of the Seventh-day Adventist church, first settled near Waco in 1935…Vernon Howell, who later assumed the name David Koreshtaught a highly apocalyptic Christianity and identified himself with the Lamb of Revelation 5, which is traditionally associated with Christ. Allegations of child abuse and the launching of a retail gun business attracted the attention of the authorities, which led to a long standoff with the FBI and a tragic fire that killed Koresh and some 80 members of the group.

Today rapture theology has enormous influence in American politics through the close relationship between Christian fundamentalists and the Republican Right. Rapture theology shaped both domestic and foreign policies in recent Republican administrations.

For instance, policies concerning the environment are increasingly effected by a theology that hopes for a rapturing away from a doomed earth. Reagan-era Secretary of the Interior James Watt told US senators that we are living at the brink of the end times and implied that this justifies clearcutting the nation’s forests and other unsustainable environmental policies. When he was asked about preserving the environment for future generations, Watt told his Senate confirmation hearing, “I do not know how many future generations we can count on before the Lord returns.”

This confluence of theology and ideology is truly disturbing. But what is even more frightening is the impact on foreign policy in the Middle East…

Time magazine’s July 1, 2002 cover story on “The Bible and the Apocalypse,” reports that 36% of Americans polled who support Israel “say they do so because they believe in biblical prophecies that Jews must control Israel before Christ will come again.” This leads them to support a particular Middle East political scenario, including U.S. military and political aid to Israel, and expansion of Israel’s settlements into the West Bank.

Christian Zionism

Christian Zionism is a relatively recent expression of rapture theology, growing in importance and influence since the 1990s. It sees the modern state of Israel as the fulfillment of Biblical “prophecy” and thus deserving of political, financial and religious support…They support Israeli expansion and the relocation of Palestinians to Arab nations. Christian Zionists are hostile toward Palestinian Christians and generally detest Muslims as evil forces worshiping another God…

How does rapture theology fit with…Jesus’ call to “love your enemies” or “to pray for those who persecute you?”

One imaginative interpretation frankly appeals to racism.

Many people have become agnostics because of the supposed conflict between the Bible and science.  In truth, there is no conflict at all between a correct translation of the Bible and really proven science

science knows human beings have lived on the earth far longer than the few thousand years covered by the Bible…

the truth is that the Bible nowhere says that Adam was the first man…— it merely says that Adam was the first man of a new [creation] or the White race. [Note the failure to provide the biblical reference for this statement.]

The many mis-translations in the King James Bible obscure much of the truth… see Rotherham’s Emphasized Bible…

we do find buried ruins of cities older than Adam — and skeletons which can be dated by the Carbon 14 process as many as thousands of years older — but the Bible itself tells us about this.

In Genesis 3, verse 3, when Eve tells Satan that God has said that they must not touch the fruit of the Tree of Good and Evil, the word there translated “touch” is the Hebrew word “th gou” meaning “to lie with, to have sexual intercourse with,” which plainly shows that…there were other people in the world at that time.

We are told that the Garden of Eden contained the Tree of the Knowledge — or experience — of Good and Evil.  Now, no tree of the forest has any knowledge or experience of either good or evil.  And the 31st chapter of Ezekiel says,

Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar…the fir trees were not like his boughs and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was likened to him in his beauty. I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden that were in the garden of God envied him.

Obviously, the trees in the garden of the Lord in Eden were family trees of races and nations who admired and envied the early Assyrian empire — for an ordinary wooden tree can’t envy anybody.  These races and nations made up the garden that Adam was to cultivate.  That is, Satan had been what we might call the superintendent or governor of this planet — to rule it in obedience to God’s will — until he forfeited that position by rebellion against God.  Adam was sent to take his place — it was Adam’s job to rule the various nations and races of the earth as God’s representative here, educating them in God’s laws and enforcing obedience to those laws.  These other races and nations had been here many thousands of years before Adam. [Emphasis added.]

Therefore the Bible makes it unmistakably clear that we are not all descended from Adam and Eve.

The Gap Theory states that God – however you care to define him – “created” or in some way “caused to be” a formless, void, and dark earth, like a black hole, then exploded it, fitting the biblical report into the materialist astronomer’s Big Bang Theory.

The gap theory also has the advantage that it allows Christians to apparently reconcile the Bible with the belief of secular scientists that the Earth is extremely old – billions of years old…

The gap theory is not consistent with the clear teaching of Scripture, that God created heaven and earth and everything within them in the span of six days (Exodus 20:11).

So fundamentalist biblical opponents of the Gap Theory fiercely oppose evolution and defend creationism by insisting that everything in Genesis 1 occurred in seven 24-hour days.

Let’s not get caught up in rationalizations and arguments, and simply let the record speak for itself.

hqdefaultIn looking at the fossil record we find that, despite two hundred years discovering billions of fossils the world over, no fossils of the theorized transitional states between species have ever been found.  The (in)conclusions drawn from just extremely limited sample of bones, Lucy, the hominid hailed as fabulous proof of human evolution, are obviously unfounded.

Lucy’s incomplete skeleton can’t even justify the reconstruction drawings.

In 1974, the world was stunned by the discovery of “Lucy,” the partial skeleton of a human ancestor that walked upright—and still spent time in the trees—3.2 million years ago...

Anthropologists have made much of the fact that adult members of Lucy’s species—Australopithecus afarensis—had skulls 20% larger than a chimpanzee’s. Researchers have long debated what this meant for their brain power…

an international team of paleoanthropologists used a synchrotron in Grenoble, France, to take super–high-resolution images of the deformed skull…of an A. afarensis toddler…on the inside of the skull, where the brain leaves an imprint…

“the brain imprint of A. afarensis is completely apelike,” says paleoanthropologist Philipp Gunz of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. Gunz spent 7 years doing the 3D reconstruction of the skull of Dikika and six other adult and juvenile members of the species…

…evolutionary neuroscientist Chet Sherwood of George Washington University cautions that because the study is based on skulls of only two juveniles and five adults, “one needs to be cautious.”

Let me see if I have this right. When fragments of a single skeleton is found it is hailed as proof of early evolving humans. When seven full skulls of the same species prove that this is just one of about 20 extinct hominid species, evolutionists caution against jumping to a conclusion.

What this is, is evidence of evolutionists’ desperation to cling to their construct as mounting scientific evidence disproves evolutionists’ 19th century pre-technological explanation for a godless world.

In contrast to the deranged imaginations of evolution, The Human Genome Project deals with facts. It catalogues existing substance – all the genes, with their variations and combinations, that together assemble a human being. Does this scientific endeavor support evolution or Intelligent Design?

Gene Myers, the computer scientist who actually put together the genome map…confessed: “We don’t understand ourselves yet…[t]here’s still a metaphysical, magical element.” (Metaphysical means “beyond the physical”; it denotes an area of investigation that has to do with the origins of objects, hence, is outside the legitimate purview of physical science.)…Myers continued: “What really astounds me is the architecture of life. The system is extremely complex. It’s like it was designed.” Designed? Doesn’t that imply a designer, an intelligence, something more than the fortuitous bumping together of chemicals in the primordial slime? (Even skeptics have acknowledged such. In his book, Fundamentals of Critical Thinking, Paul Ricci has stated that the principle that “‘everything designed has a designer’ is an analytically true statement” (1986, 190)…Myers replied: “There’s a huge intelligence there. I don’t see that as being unscientific. Others may, but not me”.

However, devout evolutionists continue to claim that “DNA supports evolution because all life on Earth carries DNA, and evolution happens only after DNA changes.

There is no logic in that circular reasoning, let alone use of the scientific method. Does anyone believe that computers evolved spontaneously from material substance that was hit by multiple bursts of lightning because they are powered by electricity and there is electricity in lightning?

Further attempts to link evolution to DNA should be immediately recognized as false.

These changes are called mutations and happen spontaneously from flawed – [FLAWED!] – DNA copying or from mutagens, such as X-rays or chemicals.

So why aren’t the people who were exposed to radiation from Chernobyl evolving?  Because, as is common knowledge, genetic mutations are detrimental, not beneficial.

And evolution can’t begin to explain all the complicated facts from DNA. You don’t hear evolutionists crowing about these findings.

University of Illinois animal geneticists Lawrence Schook and Jonathan Beever have created a side-by-side comparison of the human genome and the pig genome…”We took the human genome, cut it into 173 puzzle pieces and rearranged it to make a pig,” said Schook. “Everything matches up perfectly…

So, if all of the genes match up, what is it that makes a pig a pig and a human a human? “That’s the million dollar question,” said Beever. “The genes match up when compared side-by-side, but understanding how they work together is the next step…”

“And the same gene may behave very differently in a different animal. That’s the next level of information we’ll be looking at.”

Why do we need this much information about the pig? “It’s clear that the pig one of the closest large animal species to humans,”

Interspecies organ transplant activities between humans and pigs have even taken place, called xenotransplants.”

How do evolutionists handle this?

Saying that we share 99.9 % of DNA is misleading…blanket comparisons of all DNA sequences between species are not very meaningful.

Then how can evolutionists make the completely opposite claim?

humans and chimpanzees share around 99 percent of the same DNA…

In contrast to all this, the genetic difference between individual human beings averages out to be only around 0.1%.

Did you catch that? The genetic difference between individual human beings averages out to be the same as that between pigs and humanity in general.

Furthermore, unlike with pigs, transplants into humans from chimpanzees have failed.

Three American surgeons used organs from chimpanzees

kidneys were transplanted. The ill man survived for only nine weeks.

Five subsequent attempts followed…All but one patient died within a few weeks of the operation—that one patient survived only nine months before he died.

In 1964, James Hardy, MD, attempted to transplant the heart of a chimpanzee into a human—the first and only time this experiment was attempted on American soil. The news of the experiment was poorly received even by the medical community…

Invited to speak at a surgeon’s conference in New York City several days later…the moderator introduced him to the large audience by saying: “In Mississippi they keep the chimpanzees in one cage and the Negroes in another cage, don’t they, Dr. Hardy?”…

After the Hardy controversy, only one other American surgeon attempted to transplant organs from chimpanzees to humans. Thomas Starzl, MD, performed three chimpanzee-to-human liver transplants in 1966, 1969 and 1973, all on children who died within days. Starzl abandoned future attempts.

No other chimpanzee-to-human organ transplants by U.S. surgeons have been attempted since [published 2021].

Internationally, two surgeons pursued using chimpanzees in human transplant experiments for a brief time in the 1960s. Raffaello Cortesini, an Italian surgeon…expressed interest in breeding chimpanzees for organs, but his idea was received with moral condemnation by the Italians.

In South Africa, Christiaan Barnard, MD, became world famous after performing the first successful human heart transplant in 1967. A decade later he attempted to use chimpanzee hearts to support unstable human patients as they recovered following open-heart surgery. He soon abandoned this method. In his memoir written in 1989, Dr. Barnard wrote of his discomfort with using chimpanzees and vowed never to do so again.

Barnard’s reaction to using chimpanzees as organ donors is mirrored in the reaction of most people. In his history of this subject, Knife to the Heart: The Story of Transplant Surgery, author Tony Stark concludes:

Our closest relative in the animal kingdom might have been the surgeon’s logical first choice, but chimps were too close to humans for the comfort of the rest of society. Ethics, not genetics, won the argument.

Whoa. Now that we have discovered that pigs are even closer to humans that chimps, is anyone in society rising up in condemnation of the massive pork industry?

About 118 million hogs are slaughtered in U.S. facilities each year. About 6 million hogs and pigs are kept for breeding on U.S. farms.

There is one voice condemning the eating of pork.

“the swine…is unclean to you. Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase [pigskin] shall ye not touch.” (Leviticus 11:7)

“by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many. They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine’s flesh, and the abomination…shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 66:16-17)

Nice play on words there. Eat…consumed. This passage should bring to mind Antiochus Epiphanes and his famous slaughter of a pig on the altar in the temple at Jerusalem, which of course was eaten in due time by the worshippers to incorporate the spiritual element into their bodies. What all the elements in Isaiah have in common is defying the LORD’s / Creator’s ownership and authority over his creation. The distortion of good creation by rebels to God’s authority will be detailed in later posts.

It requires more denial to believe in evolution that has no proof and mountains of disproof than faith to believe in a Creator whose presence is evident in his irreducibly complex and highly interdependent creation. We don’t need to limit Creator God to a time table of seven days each lasting 24 hours to discount evolution. Let’s be true scientists and examine the evidence objectively. When we let the Bible speak for itself we discover that the material time keepers did not even come into existence until the fourth day.

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years…And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.” (Genesis 1:14-19)

If we accept that statement at face value, then creation days 1-3, setting a precedent for the remaining “days”, aren’t measured by the changing position of the sun to the earth. Both devout Materialists and 24-hour day Creationists are wrong.

God no more needs 24 hours than he needs billions of years to create either the old or the new creation. We cannot judge the circumstances of creation week by current conditions. YHVH operates outside the confines of our four-dimensional space-time.

“be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (II Peter 3:8)

“as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly…In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye…we shall be changed.” (I Corinthians 15:49-52)

“the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God.” (I Timothy 1:17)

Eternity is not longer time, it is the opposite of time. It is time-less-ness.

Eternity cannot be measured, it has neither beginning nor end. Eternity is a dimension that can’t be understood by those who haven’t transformed from mortal to immortal any more than colors can be described to someone who is colorblind or music to someone who has been deaf from birth.

“…eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world / chronos / times began / aionios / a very long time ago.” (Titus 1:2)

This verse is an example of both the benefits and the confusion that comes from having different translations of the Bible. In this instance, the different translations of the phrase chronos aionios should help clarify the meaning – “the beginning of time, the world began, ages began.”  The common denominator to the different translations is that there was a beginning to time.

Physicists agree that time had a beginning.”

The simplest way to understand time is that it is, by definition, a measure of decay (such as radioactive isotopes), destruction and death. Eternity is, by definition, immortality.

Different timelines, or calendars, are defined by initiating a time frame with a specific event, then measuring the time between the repeated significant events. For example, national histories are typically dated by the reigns of their kings. At the beginning of one historical novel set in Britain’s dark ages, the fictional narrator dates his story from three perspectives –

  1. for the Celts, when the Roman oppressors left Britain and they regained their freedom;
  2. for the Saxons, when they drove the Celts out of the choicest land;
  3. for the Christian converts, when their Lord Jesus Christ was born.

The point is, there are many sources from which to develop a chronology of events we define as “time”.

…while archaeologists can understand how people/objects/events relate to one another, they cannot always assign exact—absolute—dates to everything. As Warburton explains:

We basically employ every possible means available, combining (1) relative “typological” and “stratigraphic” chronologies with (2) textual sources recording astronomical observations, dates relating to kings and/or buildings, etc., and (3) more precise means such as radiocarbon dating and dendrochronology, along with (4) numismatic evidence linked to archaeological contexts and textual sources.

A geological earth calendar based on measurements of things like radioactive decay is not documented in the Bible. What is documented is the doleful tolling of the deaths of men.

And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died….And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died…” (Genesis 5:3-8)

This did not occur until the 7th day of creation, as a result of the Adams’ sin / violating a law of physics, as we shall see as we proceed.

“by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12)

This timekeeping is consistent with the theme of the Bible being the history of humanity – not the physical universe which is simply the setting for humanity. Human time had a beginning – when death began – and an end – when death is destroyed.

“And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished...And the seventh angel sounded.(Revelation 10:5-7, 11:15)

So when…this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” (I Corinthians 15:53-54)

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea…and there shall be no more death...” (Revelation 21:1-4)

If we base our interpretation of a creation “day” on a biblical model rather than our assumptions, we find that the creation “day” is not a spacetime quantity.  It is a spiritual quality.

Right in the passage “day” is defined as a state of being of light.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.” (Genesis 1:5)

The creation day is characterized by a condition when God is in control and personally active as the light of the world, which like the sun, energizes all life on earth.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was GodAll things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men…” (John 1:1-4)

“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (John 9:4-5)

Obviously Yahweh’s Savior / Jesus is not referring to 12 hours of daylight. His dedicated servant Paul confirms this interpretation, reporting that he worked tirelessly even during the earthly night to accomplish God’s work.

“For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.” (I Thessalonians 2:9)

God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (II Corinthians 4:5-6)

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;” (I Peter 2:9)

In contrast to God’s day, the darkness of night is characterized by the absence of God’s presence and activity.

“God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.” (I John 1:5-6)

The Hindu religion has maintained ancient records out of which we can pull a more accurate spiritual perspective about the difference between mortal and immortal, time and eternal, as opposed to Western civilization’s materialistic frame of reference.

“According to them, the gods were immortal…subject to a different time frame and had their own periods of activity and rest. These constituted their days and nights. When the highest Supreme Self was awake, they believed, He would expand outwardly and manifest his objective worlds…In Hinduism time…exists only so long as we are bound to the things of this world through our senses [mortal body]... In God’s consciousness there are no divisions of time. There is only the present moment, one continuous, indivisible and indistinguishable state of existence.”

God doesn’t just stop being active in the night.  He is driven out – by his own people – who replace him with a false god of light and life. This didn’t happen once, but persistently.

Notice the progression of apostasy that inexorably drives “the light of the knowledge of the glory of God” from his dwelling place, replacing it with the works of darkness.

“the hand of the Lord God fell there upon me…and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem,

  1. to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy. And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there…Then said he unto me…Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? But turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.
  2. ...And he brought me to the door of the court...And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here. So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about…He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
  3. Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD’s house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. Then said he unto me…turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.
  4. And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD’s house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east. (Ezekiel 8:1-16)

Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court. Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory…Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house.” (Ezekiel 10:3-4,18)

pp387-marvelThis documents that night is not simply the absence of daylight, it is the opposite of daylight, with its own works, characterized by destructive forces opposing God’s life-giving work.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:” (Colossians 1:12-13)

“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk [live our lives] honestly, as in the day...” (Romans 13:12-13)

In our Western (pagan Roman) culture each 24 hour day is calculated, significantly, to begin in the middle of the nighttime, i.e. mid-night, at 2400 hours by military time, or 12:00 am by civilian reckoning. Night is interrupted by daylight ~ 6:00 am, then resumes ~ 6:00 pm and wraps up the 24 hour day and merges during nighttime hours into the next 24 hour day.

hours-clock-dial-vector-illustration-full-day-127287727 118ye-image2bjewish2bday2bby2bhour

The biblical day is the opposite. Each day begins in the middle of the daytime, i.e. noon at 12 p.m., is interrupted by nighttime from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, resumes the next morning at daybreak until noon, at which time the next day begins.

If we apply this to what the Bible teaches about light and darkness, especially that there is no darkness at all in God, then the following sequence of events unfolds during the creation week.

  1. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth
    1. [All light, no darkness at all. Evening of creation day
  2. And [something happened and] the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was [superimposed by something other than God] upon the face of the deep[Works of darkness during Night 1.]
  3. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be [command performance, NOT creation of] light: and there was lightAnd God saw the light, that it was good: [Restoration of creation on the MORNING of creation day 1.]

and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening [midday to darkness and [two separate periods of time] the morning [daybreak to midday, roughly 6:00 am to noon] were the first day.” (Genesis 1:1-5)

The theme of the Bible is stated at the very beginning of the book, in the second sentence immediately after the statement of creation. The struggle for control of the world continues to be expressed throughout the entire first chapter at the most elementary level in the enigmatic recounting of “the evening and the morning.” Each creation day has the unspoken acknowledgment of the interjection, in the middle of each day’s work, of the opposing forces of darkness.

Night: Creation is plunged into destruction and darkness because of iniquity by them.

“…they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge. I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.” (Jeremiah 4:22-23)

Who are they? I contend (that’s a pun) that God didn’t give us more detail in Genesis because everybody knew the story back when the Bible was written. For sure it was written up in the ancient Sumerian account of creation, the Enuma Elish. It is only recently that a culture that prides itself on universal education has become so ignorant, therefore so vulnerable to the Adversary’s lies.

For starters, we know in context that they are immortal because time as a measure of human death hasn’t happened yet. This inference is further confirmed by the recounting of creation in Job where the angels must be in existence before the earth in order to be able notice and praise it. This is immediately followed by God’s reproof. Some of those angels rebelled through pride, in particular, a crooked serpent.

“when I laid the foundations of the earth…laid the corner stone thereof…the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy…commanded the morning…and caused the dayspring to know his place; That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it…they stand [still] as a garment. And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken. (Job 38:4-15)

He…hangeth the earth upon nothing…The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof…and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud…the crooked serpent.” (Job 26:7-12)

The nights of creation week can be envisioned as something like the London Blitz.

The power of light and life being opposed by the power of darkness and death shouldn’t even need explanation. This is not at all unique to creation. History is essentially a list of wars. Virtually every episode in the Bible is based on the theme of evil adversaries destroying God’s people and property during a terrible dark night.

Do you want to be on the winning side? Join God who fights back and triumphs!

He [God] is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered? Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger. Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble. Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.” (Job 9:3-7)

What is God’s weapon? The same unique power that formed the universe in the first place. His word.

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my [the Savior’s] words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war…and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword [think sonic weapon], that with it he should smite the nations…

And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords…And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword [weapon] proceeded out of his mouth” (Revelation 9:11-21)

The voice that thundered the universe into being – the real Big Bang – is the same voice that shouts his troops to follow him into battle to end the rebellion.

Studying the Bible is not just a matter of cultural-religious identity, or living right, or solving problems. It is a matter of life and death for humanity! Whose side will you be on? The word of truth, or the lie of the adversary?

shepherdThose pictures of blonde Jesus in a snow-white robe cuddling a lamb and petting children? He had one garment he wore day and night, sweating while striding through dust and dung for three and 1/2 years, long hair and beard. You’d get a more accurate picture visualizing a desert nomad, or closer to home, a homeless man. I’m afraid our placid lives and sanitized Sunday School stories have failed to give us a proper understanding of the Bible. It helps to put biblical words into suitable graphics. It’s rough, it’s tough, it’s dirty and it’s bloody. It’s the true Game of Thrones.

There’s a lot more packed into God’s days then simply going through a work routine for 24 hours. Let’s apply what we’ve learned to the days of creation.

Unless otherwise referenced the following account is taken from Genesis 1.

Day One – evening and morning

Evening: God creates heaven, earth, and the heavenly host, i.e. all the angels.

“In the beginning God created the heaven and earth…and all the host of them. (Genesis 1:1, 2:1)

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who  laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy(Job 38:4-7)

Humans weren’t there, but the angelic sons of God were. And some of them rebelled against their Lord Creator and set up their own worship systems. While not entirely reliable, their ancient religious legends and myths hold elements of truth that can fill in some of our missing knowledge.

Let’s consider the the mystery religions’ version of creation as presented by Mark Booth in The Secret History of the World.

Science and religion agree that in the beginning the cosmos moved from a state of nothingness to the existence of matter. But science has very little to say about this mysterious transition, all of it highly speculative…

By contrast, there was remarkable unanimity among the initiate priests of the ancient world. Their secret teachings are encoded in the sacred texts of the world’s great religions. In the most familiar of these texts…Genesis…a few of its phrases can be opened up to reveal extraordinary new worlds of thought, mighty vistas of the imagination… (Emphasis added.)

In the beginning there precipitated out of the void matter that was finer and more subtle than light. Then came an exceptionally fine gas…a vast cosmic mist.

This gas or mist was the Mother of All Living, carrying everything needed for the creation of life. The Mother Goddess, as she was sometimes also called, will…assume many different forms, many different names, but in the beginning ‘the earth was without form and void…’

The Bible narrative continues: ‘Darkness was upon the face of the earth.’

Actually it says ‘darkness was on the (sur)face of the deep / waters but only people who fact check with the source would know that the biblical narrative is being skewed right from the start. Interestingly, “waters” is consistent with the mystery religions’ conception of this stage of creation as being “a vast cosmic mist,” so why misrepresent the Bible as saying “earth”? Especially since the universe is what is being created? Because, as the account proceeds, we will see that the Mother Goddess assumes the form and name / function of Mother Earth.

According to biblical commentators working within the esoteric tradition, this [darkness] is the Bible’s way of saying that the Mother Goddess was attacked by a searing dry wind that almost extinguished the potential for life altogether…There was a violent storm…that filled the entire universe.

So this it what it would have looked like to a physical eye, but to the eye of the imagination this great cloud of mist and the terrible storm that attacked it can be seen to cloak two gigantic phantoms…It is important to let these images work on our imaginations in the same way that initiate priests intended them to work on the imagination of the candidate for initiation… (Emphasis added.)

Or not.

the weapons of our warfare are…Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God” (II Corinthians 10:4-5)

the first emanation from the mind of God would metamorphose into the goddess of the earth, the second emanation [darkness] would become the god of Saturn.

Saturn would trace the limits of the solar system. In fact he was the very principle of limitation. What Saturn’s intervention introduced into creation was the potential for individual objects to exist – and therefore the transition from formlessness to form.

This is the antithesis of the biblical account of Creator God being in all.

  • “his dear Son…is the image [visible mass] of the invisible God,
  • the firstborn of every creature:
  • For by him [not the Mother Goddess and the god of Saturn] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things,
  • and by him all things consist.” (Colossians 1:13-17)

In other words, because of Saturn there is a law of identity in the universe by which something exists and is nothing else and neither is anything else it. Because of Saturn an object occupies a certain space at a certain time and no other object can occupy that space, and neither can that object be in more than one place at one time…in many mythologies Saturn’s title is Rex Mundi, King of the World, or ‘Prince of this world‘, because of his control of our material lives [AKA mortality].

And now we see the fundamental antagonism of the mystery religions against the Bible. The multiple forced references to limitations on time and space is key to shaking off imagination and focusing on reality / truth.

As described in the previous post In the Beginning God, time is a function of loss, degeneration, decay and death. What the mystery religions are admitting is that, after the god Saturn came into being by the emanation – exhalation – breath – spirit of a timeless, immortal being, AKA Creator God, this god Saturn introduced destruction and the loss of a permanent connection to the source of life. It is always presented as being independent and a free spirit.

But who wants to be free from the lifeboats when the Titanic is sinking?

“God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods…They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. But ye shall die like men.” (Psalm 82)

“in Christ shall all be made alive…when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power…The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death…And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.” (I Corinthians 15:22-28)

The oldest extant (still existing) account of creation is not Genesis, but the Sumerian version of creation, titled the Enuma Elis[h], dated to ~2100 BC. Just like our own history books, including the Bible, the Enuma Elish would have been drawn from older accounts of the events they report.

It is generally agreed by archeologists that the Sumerian culture came into existence about 3500 BC. Based on the biblical calendar beginning mortal human history with Adam at ~4,000 BC, this coincides with the fallen angels / gods living among humans and empowering their allies to develop a high civilization, lasting about 1,000 years until it threatened the very existence of mankind, and was wiped out by the flood ~2,400.

In other words, the first widespread post-flood culture was a rebirth of the world-wide civilization that had been wiped out by the flood, knowledge of which survived the flood in water-proof baked clay tablets. This makes perfect sense. Our own Western culture is a re-birth, “re-naissance” of the Greco-Roman culture, based on documents preserved for over a thousand years, after it was almost wiped out by its own catastrophes.

The Sumerian version of creation available to us on clay tablets is dated only ~1,600 years after creation, and only ~300 years after a world-destroying catastrophe. We certainly treat 300 – 1,600 year old documents as historical records, while acknowledging the cultural biases.

European anthropologists betray their own cultural – denial of spirituality – biases when they insist that the accounts of ancient civilizations are mere myths. They are no different from the people who scoffed at the accounts the discoverers brought back to Europe of the unusual phenomena, strange animals and dangerous cultures encountered in unknown lands. As you read the following article, can you transfer the concept back from Middle Ages to the Dawn of Civilization?

The Age of Exploration, also known as the Age of Discovery…began in the late 1400’s and lasted through the 1700’s. It is responsible for…initiating globalization, and introducing colonialism around the world…

Overseas travel, exploration, and discovery paved the way for trade between Europe, Asia, and Africa…Australia and the Americas…Additionally…increase in the trade and sale of slaves and the use of slavery…increased military conquest and resource exploitation.

The Enuma Elish parallels Genesis enough to provide detractors of the Bible with the claim that the Hebrews plagiarized the Sumerians while transferring credit to their divinity. And how does one prove which version of an account is the original?

For one thing, only the biblical account of creation is written as a narrative, intended to be an historical account of actual events. Significantly, other ancient creation accounts are poetry, which may or not be fully realistic.

The biblical book of Job is written as poetry, as well as the Psalms, providing for greater emotional expression. That does not mean they are necessarily imaginative in their depictions of creation. Validation of the realistic account of creation is found through evidence from other sources. The same criteria needs to be applied to the Enuma Elish’s portrayal of creation and the antediluvian civilization.

The Hebrew scriptures alone state that:

“In the beginning God created…and God said…and it was so.” (Genesis 1)

Still understood from contemporary practice of their magical spells, the ancients knew that naming a thing called it into existence and brought it under the namer’s power. The Sumerian account therefore vaguely mentions “naming”, but without giving credit to a deity. Again, this validates the biblical God’s pronouncement that he has the power to forbid this. Because he called all things into existence, they are therefore under his power.

“Thus saith God the LORD [YHVH], he that createdthat is my name [like “architect”, what I do]: and my glory will I not give to another.” (Isaiah 42:5-8)

Collateral information from the latest physics research supports the Hebrew scriptures which alone claim that the God of the Bible spoke the worlds into existence and the sons of God sing.

The pervasive availability of computers and the internet since 1987 has resulted in an exponentially increasing of knowledge in many fields. Theoretical physics, for example, has followed through on Einstein’s search for a Unified Field Theory (UFT) of the four hypothetical forces (gravitational, electromagnetic, strong and weak nuclear), adding into it a search for an explanation of the structure of matter for a Theory of Everything (TOE), leading to String Theory.

Stay with me. This is not just a tangent but important for understanding much of what follows in the biblical narrative.

“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” (Hebrews 11:3)

Put simply, String Theory postulates six higher dimensions in addition to the four common dimensions (3D + time). What appears to be solid matter is actually made up of:

  • 1 Planck length of vibrating energy loosely envisioned as a “string”.
  • The movement of the vibrating length traces width, and thus becomes 2D, like a drawing.
  • Further vibration within other dimensions such as height and length makes the energy field assume the form of a quantum particle.
  • Humans are four dimensional, therefore cannot accurately perceive the higher dimensions or time travel without the interjection of power from those dimensions. aid1088175-v4-728px-Draw-Pyramids-Step-6-Version-2Imagine a three dimensional pyramid passing through a two dimensional world. The lower dimensional beings will not be able to perceive anything but a flat triangle gradually enlarging unless a higher dimensional being provides a two dimensional drawing representing three dimensions. The same conditions hold true for 4 dimensional beings perceiving any aspects of a 10 dimensional reality. Do you get where I’m going with this? UFOs.
  • “The idea of hidden dimensionality of space can seem occult.”
  • Spacetime is a sea of roiling shapes, quantum foam.”

Yes, this is exactly what is reported in the Enuma Elish and Genesis 1, and now the latest scientific description of the universe.

String Theory confirms the Genesis account that God spoke the physical world into existence. The Hebrew word for “called” is qara / קָרָא  It covers a lot of applications for verbalizing, including bringing into existence a blessing or curse or even a living being.

We can therefore understand that whenever God “called” something by name, he brought into existence its perceived physical characteristics by imposing structure on energy.

The Higgs boson, sometimes referred to as the ‘god particle,’ much to the chagrin of scientists who prefer the official name…signals the existence of the Higgs field, an invisible energy field present throughout the universe that imbues other particles with mass…The Higgs field emerged at the birth of the universe.

God…Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds…and upholding all things by the word of his power,” (Hebrews 1:1-3)

Because the Enuma Elish is so similar to the Genesis account of creation, it does serve our purpose of learning further details about creation. Specifically, because the Enuma Elish honors the Adversary for his actions, we can learn what was going on during the night.

Enuma Elish

changing-the-state-of-matter-from-solid-liquid-and-gas-due-to-temperature-vector-illustrationIn contrast to the biblical account which spotlights humanity, the Enuma Elish focuses on the creation and early activities of the gods. It opens on the stage at which there is a primeval, chaotic sea – Apsu / Apzu. This is consistent with the biblical description of the creation being without form, i.e. liquid, after Saturn / Lucifer revolted, extinguishing his light and causing night.

When skies above were not yet named
Nor earth below pronounced by name,

Apsu the first one, their begetter [fresh water, mass]
And maker Tiamat who bore them all, [salt water, atomic chemical elements]
Had mixed their waters together…

When yet no gods were manifest,
Nor names pronounced, nor destinies decreed,
Then gods were born within them.

The Enuma Elish is extremely vague about the origins of the gods, as it must in order to ignore the Creator. This is pantheism, where power to create and instill life is in all “being”. We can see the origins of what is supposedly “purely” scientific, but is in actuality an alternate religion, of evolution of life from a primordial chaos of atoms. In fact, our word and concept of “chaos” is exactly, unchanged, the Greek name for Apsu. We can see the origins of the Big Bang theory in the Sumerian account.

  • Lahmu / slime and Lahamu / mud their names pronounced. As soon as they matured, were fully formed,
    • “And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the [more or less] dry land appear [including the beaches, marshes, wetlands, etc]: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:9-10)
  • Anshar / sky and Kisar / earth were born, sur-passing them
    • And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.” (Genesis 1:6-8)

This parallels Job’s account describing God countering the the proud rebels by dividing the waters to form a sea above the earth.

  • He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds
  • He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night…end
  • He divideth the sea with his power
  • by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.” (Job 26:7-12)

There is a reason this sea is defined at the very beginning of the story. It is a key setting to the story. Understanding that this is not an allegory but an actual location with inhabitants becomes crucial for understanding references to this sea at the end of the story. Much more on this as the story progresses, for now, just grasp what the Bible means by this sea.

“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea…and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authorityand all the world…worshipped the dragon…and…the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13)

Finally a personhood is acknowledged. After all, the antediluvian Sumerians would have known about the Creator from Adam, who lived during most of the antediluvian time, and who had first-hand knowledge of the Creator.

Anu their [sky’s and earth’s] first-born son rivalled his forefathers

An / Anu belongs to the oldest generation of Mesopotamian gods and was originally the supreme deity of the Babylonian pantheon. Consequently, his major roles are as an authority figure, decision-maker and progenitor. In heaven he allots functions to other gods, and can increase their status at will…On earth he confers kingship, and his decisions are regarded as unalterable…An / Anu is sometimes credited with the creation of the universe itself…Of the three levels of heaven, he inhabited the highest…An / Anu frequently receives the epithet “father of the gods.” [Emphasis added.]

This does describe the biblical most High God, whom even his enemies acknowledge, which they must in order to target him as their enemy.

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” (Psalm 2:2-3)

The Sumerian Anu is essentially the same as Ani / I am / YHVH.

“And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, Ani YHVH: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name YHVH was I not known to them.” (Exodus 6:2-6)

The link between I am and YHVH is found in its first occurrence, of over 6,000 occurrences, in the Bible.

“the LORD / YHVH God made the earth and the heavens” (Genesis 2:4)

In order for the LORD / YHVH to make anything, he had to existent prior to his creation. Therefore the name LORD / YHVH = I am, always existent, Eternal One.

the one bringing into being, life-giver, giver of existence, creatorhe who brings to passperformer of his promisesthe one who is: i.e. the absolute and unchangeable one…the existing, ever living, as self-consistent and unchangeable…he will approve himself (give evidence of being, assert his being.

It appears that the similarity between Anu and Ani is no coincidence.

A study of more than 6,000 languages from around the world shows a surprising relationship between certain words’ sound and meaning.

Wichmann and Christiansen have analysed two thirds of the world’s languages…

Until now, linguists thought that word sound and meaning were completely unrelated.

“This has been the mainstay of linguistics since 1916, when the famous language theorist Ferdinand de Sassure wrote that a word’s sound and meaning were completely unrelated,” says Christiansen.

The new results directly contradict this.

Applying the principle of Occam’s Razor, AKA the KISS principle, we recognize that Anu in Sumerian is the same Ani in Hebrew, both referencing the same God.

Anu retained his essential character and high status throughout Mesopotamian history.

“Indeed, when other gods are elevated to a position of leadership, they are said to receive the anûtu, the “Anu-power”. For example, in Enūma eliš the gods express Marduk’s authority over them by declaring: “Your word is Anu!” (Tablet IV, lines 4-6). Later An / Anu came to share or cede these functions…”

According to the biblical account, yes, the All Powerful Eternal Creator God did share and cede his functions, to both angels and humans

ancient-gods-family-tree-primevalOur Western culture is more familiar with the Greek correlates to the Sumerian pantheon, where the first class of gods are, like the Sumerian, anthropomorphized forces or conditions like light (Aether) and matter like gaseous sky (Uranus), liquid sea (Pontus), solid earth (Gaia), and fire erupting under the earth via volcanoes  (Tartarus). The Greeks enhance our understanding of what the ancients are reporting by describing Nyx, who parallels Tiamat, as “the goddess of Night”, i.e. the works of darkness.

The first true Greek personal deity, the equivalent of the Sumerian Anu, is Ur-anu-s. He begets the first rank of actual spirit beings, what we call angels, and what the Greeks called the Titans. Despite the fact that he is the named ancestor of all the rest of the equivalent of the Sumerian gods, no cult addressed directly to Uranus survived into classical times. The reason is obvious. Anu / Ur-anus / YHVH could not be destroyed, so he is simply ignored by his rebel sons who developed cults centered on themselves.

While it may seem a random distraction to learn about the ancient gods in this study, I suggest you bear in mind that these are the gods that the Apostle Paul and the early church had to overcome, and these same gods are boldly resurfacing in our day.

Various analysts match the Sumerian gods differently with the other cultures’ gods because there is no Rosetta Stone to define their relationships for us. However, since the Hebrew religion is claimed to be a derivative of the Sumerian we can’t be faulted for using the Bible to define significant matches. But then, the consistency / reliability found in the Bible is one validation of its claim to be the source of truth, while the confusion found in the host of alternate explanations should be an obvious indication of lack of truth, and even deliberate deception by those forwarding their own agenda – self empowerment.

For example, in alchemy, Cronus (Greek) / Saturn (Roman) is equated with the God of the Bible “on account of the keeping holy of the Sabbath Saturday means ‘Saturn’s Day’ and also on account of the Gnostic parallel with the supreme archon Ialdabaoth (‘child of chaos’) who, as, may be grouped together with Baal, Kronos…”

Well, I’m not buying that.

  1. Sabbath = seventh, the day God rested and the name of this day was changed by pagans to honor the pagan god Saturn.
  2. The God of the Bible is most certainly not the same as Baal who in the Bible is unequivocally denounced.
  3. Neither is he equivalent to Kronos / Chronos from which we get chronology or time which is a function of death. God is life.

But you see, only people who know the Bible would know how wrong this presentation is.

Equating the God of the Bible with Saturn is a particularly deliberate and significant lie when we discover the religious beliefs behind Saturn.

The age that man later called the Age of K[Ch]ronos (Saturn) was remembered with nostalgia as an age of bliss. References to the Age of Kronos in the ancient lore are very numerous.

Hesiod tells of…A golden race of mortal men who lived in the time of Kronos when he was reigning in heaven. And they lived like gods without sorrow of heart, remote and free from toil: miserable age rested not on them… The fruitful earth unforced bare them fruit abundantly and without stint. They dwelt in ease and peace upon their lands with many good things…

Similarly writes Ovid in the sixth book of his Metamorphoses:

In the beginning was the Golden Age, when men of their own accord, without threat of punishment, without laws, maintained good faith and did what was right.

9ddc77fde1bd168ea38d329b549b3e29According to the Bible, a Golden Age happened only with the first two then-immortal humans before Kronos / Chronology / Time reigned. There was law, of physics for the two immortal humans. Like Superman’s vulnerability to kryptonite, humans were warned about the inflexible consequences – not punishment – if they consumed this toxic substance.

Rejecting the biblical account of mankind’s self-centered, i.e. sinful, nature with its inevitable consequences of strife, destruction, and therefore struggle for existence leads dreamers to accept the lie that a life of effortless comfort can be lived, and to support the liar who promises to bring it about, whether he deals in drugs or political promises he knows he can’t keep.

So who is Cronus / Chronos / Kronos / Saturn, son of Anu / Uranus, really? Returning to the foundational pagan, the Sumerian, account of creation:

And Anu begot Nudimmud in his likeness.

Notice in the charts above that the Sumerians and the Greeks acknowledge that Anu / Uranus begat all the first generation gods / celestial beings / angels. The Anu-nna or Annunaki are the children of Anu, commonly called angels and conceived of in our technological age as the ancient astronauts who came to earth in the past and are still in contact as aliens in UFOs. These are the “sons of God” who sang at creation.

In the biblical account focused on humanity, the main player first introduced by name is Adam, the human son of God. In the Sumerian account focused on the gods, the main player is Nudimmud, the peerless angel

He, Nudimmud, was superior to his forefathers…
He had no rival among the gods his peers.

His Sumerian name may be unfamiliar, but the individual referenced is recognized by his features. This description is repeated in the Bible, attributes of the lead angel commonly known in Western culture as Lucifer.

“Thus saith the LORD God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering…and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so…Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, [drum roll] till iniquity was found in thee” (Ezekiel 28:12-15)

Nudimmud is more commonly known in succeeding Mesopotamian languages as Ea or Enki.

The god Ea (whose Sumerian equivalent was Enki) is one of the three most powerful gods in the Mesopotamian pantheon, along with Anu and Enlil…Sumerian texts about Enki often include overtly sexual portrayals of his virile masculinity…Ea has associations with wisdom, magic and incantations [and ___ said and it was so]…he is the ultimate source of all ritual knowledge used by exorcists to avert and expel evil [because he is more powerful, but the afflicted just trades one master for another, as with organized crime]. Ea was patron of the arts and crafts, and all other achievements of civilization…”

Enki…Nudimmud, the mighty one…the strong one of the Anunna[ki]…[angels, gods], Enki, lord of the hegal [demigods, hybrid angel-human giants], lord of wisdom, lord, beloved of An, ornament of Eridu [possibly the oldest city in the world, founded by Cain], who directs commands and decisions, expert at fate-decreeing…You bring down the stars of heaven...Enki, king of the Abzu, celebrates his own magnificence – as is his right.”

Now there’s another clue. We can match the Sumerian Enki / Ea who is full of pride and brings down the stars of heaven with the biblical creature who does the same.

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations [these can include family groups of immortals with common descent as much as mortals]! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. ” (Isaiah 14:12-15)

The Enuma Elish expounds on Lucifer’s plot to overthrow the Almighty.

The divine / immortal brothers / nations banded together, They disturbed…they rushed here and there…

Apsu could not diminish their clamor…Their doings were loathsome to him. Offensive and overbearing were their ways. Then Apsu, the begetter of great gods, Cried out, addressing Mummu, his vizier [prime minister who speaks for him, Logos / Word of God]

“0 Mummu, my vizier, who rejoices my spirit, Come hither…”

“Their ways are truly abominable unto me…I will destroy, I will wreck their ways… Let us have rest!”…answered Mummu…”Destroy, my father, their rebellious ways…

  • Apsu as begetter of the first generation gods commonly known in our time as angels,
  • his spirit,
  • and his son Mummu, the minister / executor of the wishes / word of Apsu

These descriptors all correlate to the biblical God as Father, Holy Spirit and Son.

Now whatever they had plotted between them, Was repeated unto the gods, their first-born.

Whoa! Slip of the tongue?

If the gods / angels are the “first-born”, who are the “younger” children yet to be born? We’ll come to that shortly.

Like every rebel, Lucifer / Ea / Enki, writes history according to the way he wants the world to see it.

The account of Enki’s revolt against the Creator gives details about the works of darkness, the Nights of creation week/era.

When the gods heard this, they were astonished…and remained speechless.  Superior in wisdom, accomplished and resourceful, Ea, the all-wise…Made artful his spell…made it subsist in the deep…poured sleep upon…Apsu / the deep. Mummu…was powerless to stir.  He loosened Apsu’s band, tore off his tiara, Removed his halo and put it on himself.

After Ea had vanquished and tramped down…assured his triumph over his enemies, In profound peace he rested in his sacred chamber,

He named it “Apsu”… He founded his cult in that same place…dwelled there in splendor.

We can see that the Adversary spins his defeat and invents an explanation as to why he isn’t residing in heaven anymore. The truth is:

The Underworld formed from the original deep or Abzu is the territory of Enki who is described as “a reptilian god” corresponding to a primordial dragon called “Kur“. This place, also called Kur after the common practice of naming a city after its founder, is the abode of devils and other monstrous creatures. This place corresponds to what some modern mystics call a “hollow earth” inhabited by a “higher civilization” whose only desire is to “help” mankind. This conviction is, once again, the classic lie, the anxiety-driven defense-mechanism denial of the true biblical description of the deep as a place of torment.

“…there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time…When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice…they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep / abysson / [Greek translation with clear linguistic root of Sumerian Abzu].” (Luke 8:27-31)

Westerners are more familiar with the Greek version of Cronus’ overthrow during the Clash of the Titans.

Cronus seized power from his father Uranus and ruled the cosmos with the Titans as his subordinates… Cronus and the Titans were in turn defeated and replaced as the ruling pantheon of gods by [Cronus’ sons] Zeus and the Olympians in a ten-year war called the Titanomachy. As a result of this war of the gods, Cronus and the vanquished Titans were banished from the upper world and held imprisoned under guard in Tartarus, although apparently, some of the Titans were allowed to remain free.

Cronus’ son Zeus, most evidently made in the likeness of his father,  the leader of the rebel Titans, is the Greek equivalent of Sumerian Enki / Ea i.e. Hebrew biblical Satan.

The Pergamom is Berlin’s most visited museum and takes its name from its main attraction, the altar of Zeus from Pergamom (Pergamum).”

“And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write…I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.

The value of decoding the mystifying ancient stories should begin to add up. Now we know that

  • the Sumerian Enki / Greek Cronus / Roman Saturn is the Hebrew Lucifer who fathered
    • the Sumerian Marduk / Greek & Roman Zeus / Hebrew Satan who fathered
      • Greek & Roman Apollo / Hebrew Apollyon

Lucifer was created, was functioning for some time as an obedient son of the Creator God during the first evening when God created the heaven and the earth, AKA the garden of God and the holy mountain of God, then chose to rebel. This explains the nights of creation week, the darkness, because “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (I John 1:5)

Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart. My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment. How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet? For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children / sons of God / angels and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man [ha adam], and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.” (Jeremiah 4:22-28)

Jeremiah’s prophecy of a future event  – “the whole land shall be desolate” – is guaranteed to be accomplished by the fulfillment of the same event in the past – “it was without form, and void”.

Geological Time

Geological evidence of destructive forces at work – i.e. the interjection of geological time – correlates to the nights of Genesis 1. The sequence of events unequivocally informs us that the destructive forces of primeval waters were used as a weapon. This is validated not only by the Adversary’s Sumerian account of this era in which he claims the Apsu / Abzu, the primeval deep / waters as his own, but by by the physical evidence left behind.

the worldwide flood (aka The Flood)…is a scientific matter that involved a very large comet-like object impacting Earth about 12,800 years before present  in what is now the Southern Ocean. By comet-like, I mean that it was primarily composed of ice, that it was porous, and that it was fragile; comets are fragments from this class of larger celestial bodies. Due to its composition and size, the impacting object (IO) delivered a nearly unimaginable amount of water that inundated abyssal landscapes. The newly introduced water transformed the planet in a matter of weeks,

Geologists will immediately dismiss any claim that there was a worldwide flood because one of their science’s primary axioms holds that The Flood never occurred. For those unaware, the reason that present-day geology has us believing that there was never a flood is due to Adam Sedgwick. A renaissance man of the early 19thcentury, Sedgwick was a Cambridge University professor, an ordained minister in the Church of England, and the president of the Geological Society of London. Seeking evidence of The Flood, Sedgwick and his geologist colleagues set about Europe searching for remnant sediments and formations. But the sought-for confirmation did not exist. So, after considerable reflection, Sedgwick concluded that there was never a worldwide flood…

Yet Sedgwick erred. From the evidence before him, Sedgwick should have concluded: presently exposed landscapes were never inundated by a common flood. That is an indisputably correct statement, yet different from the claim that there was never a worldwide flood. Sedgwick went too far: he passed judgment on the morphology of vast, submerged landscapes that he could not observe. He assumed that Earth’s present amount of water has always been here.

Because of its far-reaching consequences, Sedgwick’s ‘no worldwide flood, ever’ conclusion will eventually gain universal recognition as the most profound error in the history of science. Folks, it’s not even close: “no flood, ever” adversely affects our understanding of who we are, where we are from, and what has happened to our planet. For the past 200 years, we have had it all wrong.

The Enuma Elish openly reports waters as the forces of destruction used by the Adversary.

“Then the lord raised up the flood-storm, his mighty weapon.”

The Bible does as well, if we take what is said at face value in the context in which it is written.

You “…there shall come in the last days scoffers…saying…all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished...” (II Peter 3:3-7)

Hold on! you say. That would be the flood of Noah!

It certainly can apply to Noah’s flood, but can you prove that was the only world-wide destruction by water? Peter is describing a flood in the context of “the beginning of the creation.”

More often than not we see cycles of prophecy, repetition of events until a final fulfillment occurs. Conduct what health professions call a “focused assessment” on the following account of creation week. This avoids being distracted from extraneous details so we can pull out the significant detail.

At that time the earth became wet and malleable from flooding.

gary-jackson-stamping-flowerpot-1024x768“when I laid the foundations of the earth…shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth…the earth…is turned as clay to the seal; [soft and wet] (Job 38:4-14)

Interesting that God said he would never destroy the earth with a flood…again. This suggestive that Noah’s flood wasn’t the first one, and that humans knew flooding was a standard practice and after their horrific experience as traumatized survivors were legitimately terrified of yet another occurrence.

Pay attention to the extravagant reassurances God gives over and over again in nine verses (Genesis 9:9-17). Put some life into the written word! Feel how this is a parent telling his children to trust him, “I promise I won’t let you die!” under dire circumstances.

Can you think of any other place in scripture where God goes to this extent making promises in the same passage? There is a reason for it. What is not recorded is undoubtedly the frantic babbling, sobbing and screaming from the eight people with severe Acute Traumatic Stress Disorder as they are dragged out of the ark to a devastated world.

“And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,

  1. And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.
  2. And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood;
  3. neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
  4. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
  5. I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
  6. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud [bringer of judgment] over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood  to destroy all flesh.
  7. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
  8. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

I submit to you that the ancients texts elucidate what the Hebrew text takes for granted, that God did not create a dark, formless, void universe. The Sumerian text tells us that Enki / Lucifer attacked what the Hebrew text tells us he had walked in – a garden and a mountain of God directly open to God’s heaven. This physical place is what became dark and void by the actions of the adversaries of light and life, through a flood that overwhelmed it.

Morning: the day dawns, God’s work re-established as “the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters” which are at this point in the account covering creation.

God locked up the excess water was locked in snow and ice.

“Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth. He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth. After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard. God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend…By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.” (Job 37:3-10)

port_lockroy_antarctica_on_a_summer_evening.jpgPhoto of Antarctica, where in a complete circle the breadth of the waters / oceans are straitened (con-strained from taking action as by a strait jacket) by a wall of frost / ice.

The ancient Hebrew record of a series of world-wide catastrophes, with massive amounts of water as a weapon, is supported by the geological evidence of the many ice ages left behind for our edification.

”…who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? When I…brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring / Lucifer to know his place…

Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?…Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it? The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen” (Job 38)

This clearly describes that the means by which the destructive forces of a flood were restrained was by freezing the waters.

There is geological evidence of ice ages. The main evidence for glaciation is from particularly characteristic sediments which are formed by glaciers, and they’re preserved in the geological record…

The important thing about ice ages is that they change the character of the Earth’s surface…We don’t know precisely how many ice ages have occurred in Earth’s history, but we do know that there have been at least five, and possibly as many as seven major ice ages…The most recent glaciation is the one we are living in now…

There have been at least five significant ice ages in Earth’s history…

These global cooling periods begin when a drop in temperature prevents snow from fully melting in some areas. The bottom layer turns to ice, which becomes a glacier as the weight of accumulated snow causes it to slowly move forward. A cyclical pattern emerges in which the snow and ice traps the Earth’s moisture, fueling the growth of these ice sheets as the sea levels simultaneously drop…

One significant outcome of the recent ice age was the development of Homo sapiens…[Interesting correlation with biblical epoch 6.] Meanwhile, the mastodons, saber-toothed cats, giant ground sloths and other megafauna that reigned during the glacial period went extinct by its end.

The reasons for the disappearance of these giants…are among the ice age mysteries that have yet to be fully explained. [Biblical explanation in the post on God’s flood war.]

Bear in mind, acknowledging geological evidence per se does not require one to accept every theory formulated by scientists, who themselves argue their controversial theories among themselves. On the other hand, once “time” is defined as a measure of destruction then we must acknowledge that time did pass during the nights of Genesis 1.

Geological findings also indicate that meteors and comets have bombarded the earth, bringing massive quantities of elemental materials used to assess the passage of time, such as radioactive carbon dating. These findings support the biblical prophecies of future recurrences of stars, i.e. lights in the sky, falling to earth and wreaking great distruction.

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:29-30)

“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” (Revelation 6:12-17)

An impact event is a collision between astronomical objects causing measurable effects…

Major impact events have significantly shaped Earth’s history…

there have been five generally accepted major mass extinctions that on average extinguished half of all species. One of the largest mass extinctions…killed off 90 percent of all species…

In 1980…[scientists] discovered unusually high concentrations of iridium in a specific layer of rock strata in the Earth’s crust. Iridium is an element that is rare on Earth but relatively abundant in many meteorites…This iridium layer at the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary has been found worldwide at 100 different sites. Multidirectionally shocked quartz (coesite), which is normally associated with large impact events or atomic bomb explosions, has also been found in the same layer at more than 30 sites. Soot and ash at levels tens of thousands times normal levels were found with the above…

Probably the most convincing evidence for a worldwide catastrophe was the discovery of the crater which has since been named Chicxulub Crater…centered on the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico…180 km (110 mi) in diameter…

An impact event is commonly seen as a scenario that would bring about the end of civilization. In 2000, Discover Magazine published a list of 20 possible sudden doomsday scenarios with an impact event listed as the most likely to occur…

In the early history of the Earth (about four billion years ago), bolide impacts were almost certainly common… Such impacts could have included strikes by asteroids hundreds of kilometers in diameter, with explosions so powerful that they vaporized all the Earth’s oceans. It was not until this heavy bombardment slackened that life appears…

in January 2020, scientists reported that the oldest recognised asteroid impact occurred in Western Australia more than 2.2 billion years ago.

Two 10-kilometre sized asteroids are now believed to have struck Australia between 360 and 300 million years ago…creating a 400-kilometre impact zone. According to evidence found in 2015 it is the largest ever recorded.

The dates attributed to these events are impossible to determine scientifically, so often billions of years are attributed to remain consistent with the time requirements of evolution. And yet the same scientific fields of study warn that humans are destroying the earth in just a few hundreds of years.

Two main premises determine widely divergent results of calculations.

Geologists haven’t always agreed about the history of our planet. They have debated between catastrophism and uniformitarianism over the last few hundred years…

Catastrophism is the theory that Earth’s features are mostly accounted for by violent, large-scale events that occurred in a relatively short amount of time. So, a species that went extinct was probably killed off by a giant natural disaster. An impressive mountain range was probably formed by worldwide earthquakes and eruptions…

1785, a geologist and physicist named James Hutton proposed another idea. He thought that most of the features on the surface of the Earth were formed by slow, ongoing geologic processes, not by sudden catastrophic events…In other words, ‘the present is the key to the past.’

Hutton’s idea was a major turning point in the field of geology. He called it uniformitarianism: the theory that Earth’s features are mostly accounted for by gradual, small-scale processes that occurred over long periods of time. Also called gradualism, the theory of uniformitarianism was fleshed out and popularized by another geologist, Charles Lyell.

In the 1830’s Charles Lyell published Principles of Geology which explained the finer details of Uniformitarianism. The book became a keystone text of geologists and also influenced the evolutionary theories of Charles Darwin.

Wow. You’d think a science as close to hand as geology would have been able to update in the last century.
