Key precept: Humanity has a relentless enemy.
There was one son of God who was made so closely in God’s likeness that he was named after God’s key attribute.
“God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (I John 1:5)
“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:” (II Pet 1:19)
“O Lucifer / Bringer of light, son of the morning!” (Isa 14:12)
Compare Lucifer’s description to the description of 1) God himself, 2) God’s High Priest, Melchizedek in whom the Spirit of God resides (more on him later), and 3) the new Jerusalem, God’s eternal residence.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness…That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.“” (Joh 1:1-9)
“Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy [musical] tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.” (Eze 28:12-14)
“…behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.” (Rev 4:2-3)
“as the Lord commanded Moses. And he made the breastplate of cunning work, like the work of the ephod; of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen. It was foursquare; they made the breastplate double: a span was the length thereof, and a span the breadth thereof, being doubled. And they set in it four rows of stones: the first row was a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this was the first row. And the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. And the third row, a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper: they were inclosed in ouches of gold in their inclosings. And the stones were according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet, every one with his name, according to the twelve tribes.” (Ex 39:7-14)
“And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones…jasper, sapphire, chalcedony, emerald, sardonyx, sardius, chrysolyte, beryl, topaz, chrysoprasus, jacinth, amethyst, pearls…and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass…the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof…and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.” (Rev 21:19-24)
Lucifer was flying high. Then he heard about God’s plan to promote the powerless mortal people made with bodies of clay, i.e. “mud people“, above the mighty immortal angels, to make us God’s family and heirs, give us dominion and power and glory while keeping the likes of him mere servants.
“What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and [yet] hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:” (Psa 8:4-6)
Lucifer’s rivalry with Adam is laid out for us in the Sumerian documents, where Adam is called Enlil, the third of the three most powerful gods.
Enlil is considered in most traditions to be the first-born son of An (Vase Inscription of Lugalzagesi, Wang 2011: 134), and brother of the goddess Aruru (Enmerkar and En-suhgir-ana.
In Sumerian tradition Enlil is called ” the great Kur,” meaning “foreigner” or “alien,” turning the tables on what we humans call Enki’s kind. Biblically, Enlil corresponds to the first-born human son of God, in contrast to the previous celestial sons of God. He is the first Adam to whom God ceded anu-tu, the Anu-power.
“For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world [the first sinless human Adam, then the last human Adam], he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever…” (Heb 1:5-8)
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion.” (Gen 1:26)
Enki’s / Lucifer’s reaction to this unexpected delegation of authority and transfer of power is described in the book of Job, the oldest document in the Bible.
“Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said…Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof. In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men, Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up: It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying, Shall mortal man be more just [competent to pass judgment so put in charge] than God? shall a man be more pure [the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but truth] than his maker? Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly: How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay [easily and routinely destroyed, mortal], whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth? They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it. Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.” (Job 4)
So Enki / Lucifer set out to seize that power from Enlil / Adam. According to the Sumerian creation story, “Enlil, the great Kur, has empowered you [Enki].”
Biblically speaking, it is true that Adam did empower the Adversary, Enki. This happened when he submitted himself to the serpent instead of God in the matter of eating the fruit of the tree.
“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Ro 6:16)
It takes infinitely good judgment and wisdom to process data and devise solutions to multiple and competing needs simultaneously, which surely humans don’t possess. Most of all, it requires use of the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, because truth is reality, and as soon as you act on a falsehood you aren’t dealing with reality, and the inevitable results clash with reality, I.e. are dysfunctional and destructive. Anyone capable of maintaining the perfect balance of forces in nature has to be absolutely right-acting (righteous), all-knowing, and 100% accurate in judgment calls. Lucifer questioned God’s judgment in preferring humans, who compare so unfavorably to angels.
“What is man, that he should be clean? And he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? Behold, he [God] putteth no trust in his saints [sinless ones, angels]…How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?” (Job 15:14-16)
“How then can man be justified with God? Or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? Behold…the stars [angels] are not pure in his sight. How much less man, that is a worm?” (Job 25:4-6)
Lucifer’s pride was his undoing. He couldn’t accept God’s decision to promote frail, imperfect humans above the mighty stars – to rule creation? Seriously? He revolted against his ruler, like , like Joab against King David.
“Thou was perfect in thy ways from the day thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. (Eze 28:12-15)
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! …For thou hast said in thine heart: (Isa 14:12-14)
- I will ascend into heaven, i.e. lay hold of the knowledge of heaven, be omniscient.
- “I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy. Who hath ascended up into heaven…?” (Prov 30:3-4)
- “O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” (Psa 139:1-6)
- I will exalt my throne above the stars of God, i.e. rule over the other stars / sons of God.
- “After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman…and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.” (Est 3:1)
- I will sit also [upon the mount of the congregation,] i.e. sit while everyone else either bows or stands out of respect, be honored by everyone else, as still is the case in a court of law when the judge enters and takes his seat.
- “And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.” (Est 3:2)
- I will ascend above…the clouds, i.e be the judge of what is right and wrong, bringing judgment of wrongdoers in the clouds.
- “…can any understand the spreadings of the clouds…For by them judgeth he the people…(Job 36:29-31)
“The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof. Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne. A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about…worship him, all ye gods.” (Psa 97:1-7)
- “Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are! And thou sayest, [note, the following questions are by a sceptic] How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud? Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; [statement of denial by one who doesn’t want God to see what he does] and he walketh in the circuit of heaven [he oversees all]. [Rebuttal by a believer.] Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee…lift up thy face unto God. Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows. Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.” (Job 22:12-17)
- “Behold, he [Yeshua] cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.” (Rev 1:7)
- I will be like the most High.” i.e. in the full attributes of power and authority.
- “…who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD? God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him. O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee?” (Psa 89:6-8)
Do you recognize Lucifer’s competitive attitude? The prerogatives Lucifer wanted to seize for himself were being freely given to human sons of God.
- Gifted with knowledge – “When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men….apostles…prophets …evangelists…pastors and teachers…till we all come in…the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man.” (Eph 4:8-13)
- Rule over the angels – “…we shall judge angels.” (I Cor 6:3)
- Sit in honor – “…God…made us sit together in heavenly places in Yahweh’s Chosen Savior/Messiah Yeshua/Christ Jesus…” (Eph 2:4-6
- Ascend above the clouds – “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in The Chosen One / Messiah / Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (I Thess 4:16-17)
- Identified with God – “…in him [Messiah] dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.” (Col 2:9-10)
Lucifer devised a clever plan to destroy his rivals by leading them away from the source of life into death. How? By representing himself as the true benefactor of mankind, the source of power and means to overcome human limitations to become immortal gods. Since the sun is the universal symbol of life-giving light, he appropriated the symbol of the winged Sun.
“But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings...” (Mal 4:2)
This is the symbol of Gnosticism, which became foundational to all ancient religions. It symbolizes the teaching that a Chosen Few can achieve godhood through knowledge of mysteries hidden to ordinary humans, by joining mystery cults in which the secrets are incrementally revealed over time as the initiate proves himself worthy of the sacred knowledge. It is the antithesis of the Bible’s teaching that everyone can achieve godhood through a free gift from God.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph 2:8-9)
Lucifer’s dissociation from the true light changed his essence and his ways, and therefore his identity / name to Satan, i.e. Adversary.
“…we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.” (I Thess 2:18) [So he wrote a letter instead, and for the next two thousand years how many millions more people got the message?]
His only goal is to destroy humanity, which he accomplishes by deceitfully claiming to be The One Who Brings Life.
“”Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Gen 3:1-5)
When we grasp this rivalry, we understand the background to “Yahweh’s Savior / Yeshua / Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (Joh 14:6)
God actually uses Satan to discipline his children.
“It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife…concerning him that hath so done this deed, In the name of our Lord Yahweh’s Savior/Yeshua Messiah/Jesus Christ..deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” (I Cor 5:1-5) [And it worked, according to the followup letter:] Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many. So…forgive him, and comfort him…confirm your love toward him.” (II Cor 2:6-8)
“Hymenaeus and Alexander…I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.” (I Tim 1:20)
“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” (II Cor 12:7-8)
The oldest book in the Bible gives us the most information about this tactic, and describes how God allows Satan to persecute us in order to mature us and prove our commitment to God “for better or for worse”.
“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil...Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan…Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in th
He is called the Devil, i.e. Slanderer. He primarily slanders God, such as claiming that he is withholding good things from us, or that he doesn’t love us or he wouldn’t let us suffer the consequences of our choices – even though that’s how we learn.
“Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise; For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause. For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand. When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin. Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” (Psa 109:2-6)
He is called the tempter because he attacks God’s people through temptation, seducing us through our existing desire for power, money, attention, security, comfort, whatever particular selfish desire we may have.
“Then was Yahweh’s Savior/Yeshua/Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said,
- If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread...
- Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone…
- Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Then saith Yahweh’s Savior/Yeshua/Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.” (Mat 4:1-11)
“And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel...And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.” (I Chro 21:1-8)
“…when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.” (I Thess 3:5)
“…a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?” (Act 5:1-3)
“When Yahweh’s Savior/Yeshua/Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?…And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Chosen One/Messiah/Christ, the Son of the living God. And Yahweh’s Savior/Yeshua/Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven…[This is the true “as above, so below”. Admit it. This kind of power would totally go to your head, and so it does with Peter. So who will Satan target to get at Yeshua?] From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” (Mat 16:13-23)
He is characterized as a devouring lion and an angel of light. Whichever tactic works.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist steadfast in the faith…” (I Pet 5:8-9)
“Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness.” (II Cor 11:45-15)
According to the Book of Enoch, celestial beings are indeed shape-shifters who can appear as humans as well as other forms. This revelation is confirmed in scripture.
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Heb 13:2)
Before all these things Enoch was concealed…He was wholly engaged with the holy ones, and with the Watchers in his days…and when they pleased they assumed the likeness of men…I saw a place on the other side of an extended territory…which had neither the firmament of heaven above it, nor the solid ground underneath it; neither was there water above it, nor anything on wing; but the spot was desolate. And there I beheld seven stars, like great blazing mountains, and like spirits entreating me. Then the angel said, This place, until the consummation of heaven and earth, will be the prison of the stars, and the host of heaven. The stars which roll over fire are those which transgressed the commandment of God before their time arrived; for they came not in their proper season. Therefore was He offended with them, and bound them, until the period of the consummation of their crimes in the secret year. Then Uriel said, Here the angels, who cohabited with women, appointed their leaders; (Enoch 12-19)
Prior to Yeshua’s atonement for sin, we find Satan preoccupied with making accusations against God’s people.
“And he shewed me Yahweh’s Savior / Yeshua / Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him [think prosecuting attorney]. And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan…is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? Now Yahweh’s Savior / Yeshua / Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. (Zech 3:1-4)
Humans who identify with Yahweh’s Savior’s atonement for sin are declared righteous, and Satan cannot argue for a conviction against us.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death…What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” (Ro 8:1-2,31-34)
“And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.” (Revelation 6:9-11)
Satan and his angels were cast out of heaven. In this context he is identified as the dragon and that old serpent. This should be viewed as his true identity.
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him…And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Yahweh’s Chosen Savior / Yeshua Messiah / Jesus Christ.” (Rev 12:3-17)
The Serpent / Dragon
The best way to know any personality in literature is to start at his introduction and proceed through the story as his actions reveal his character. As a main character in the Biblical account of human history, the serpent appears at the very beginning of the story, where the Hebrew word for serpent is nachash (where ch is pronounced “k” as in school).
“Now the serpent / nachash was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent / nachash…of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it…And the serpent / nachash said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw…a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat…And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent / nachash beguiled me, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the serpent / nachash, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go…And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Gen 3:1-15)
This nachash serpent is usually assumed to be a dumb animal, possessed and controlled by Satan. But hold up! Put this chapter of the whole story in its proper place. This was creation before the fall, when not only the two humans but the animals were hyperdimensional beings. It was only when the woman ate the fruit that all living things under human dominion were dragged down with her to spiritually disconnected four dimensions.
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with The Promised Seed / Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity [futility], not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now… they… groan…waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of…body.” (Romans 8:16-23)
The redemption of all creation from vanity / death back to immortality occurs when the Seed of the Woman triumphs over the Seed of the Serpent, paradoxically, through death.
“For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that thou visitest him?” Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. But we see Yahweh’s Savior / Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one:” (Hebrews 2:5-11)
“But now is The Promised Seed / Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death [to all living beings], by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” (I Corinthians 15:20-26)
This New Testament passage expands on the Old Testament prophecy of the restoration, through unity with God, of peace to and eternal life to a conflict- and death-stricken world for all living beings.
“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord…with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked…The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp [snake], and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ [extinct dragon] den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for [the whole, not just the people in] the earth shall be full of the knowledge of [joined / baptized in identity through the Spirit with] the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11:1-9)
Apparently this sentient, subtle, clever animal thought, like Eve, that he would improve his station in life by allying himself with the rebel angel. Like Eve, the result of his rebellion against God was immediate genetic modification. In his case, he lost appendages – legs and/or wings – indicating that originally he had them, in the form of a dragon.
As for enmity between women and snakes, that seems to be genetic as well.
However, scripture also indisputably identifies a permanently immortal serpent / nachash by other names – dragon, Satan and the Devil – and links the various personifications taken by the Messiah’s primary adversary. Once again we see “on earth as it is in heaven” – parallels between earthly and heavenly beings.
True to form, the path this being takes through the story is a crooked and often hidden one. Looking into Job, much of which is a prequel to Genesis providing a glimpse of the earliest events on earth, we catch sight of the leader nachash during creation.
“He [God] divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud…his hand hath formed the crooked serpent / nachash…the thunder of his [God’s] power who can understand? (Job 26:6-14)
Job’s account of nachash at creation is attested by the pre-flood Sumerian account of their serpent-dragon called Kur. This can be translated as outcast, exile, outlaw, foreigner, alien, which points to the rebellious angel thrown out of the kingdom of heaven in outer space, whose dwelling place became the earthly deep, the abzu, the abyss. When we look at distorted myths through the lens of the Bible, we can glimpse truth that is always at the core of the best lies.
- An, the heaven-god [Yaweh], carried off the heaven,
- while Enlil, the air-god [i.e. the immortal son of God Adam whose abode was in the atmosphere under the firmament], carried off the earth. [was given dominion over the earth by God]
- It was then that the foul deed was committed. The goddess Ereshkigal [this would be the, originally, immortal human woman] was carried off violently into the nether world [she experienced death, a violent drop from the spiritual hyper dimensions of eternity to the four dimensions of mortal time and space]
- perhaps by Kur [the dragon/serpent]
- Thereupon Enki [Lucifer, Adam’s adversary], the water-god, whose Sumerian origin is uncertain, but who toward the end of the third millennium B. C. gradually became one of the most important deities of the Sumerian pantheon, set out in a boat, in all probability [note, this is purely guesswork by the myth itself] to attack Kur and avenge the abduction of the goddess Ereshkigal.
- Kur fought back savagely with all kinds of stones, large and small. Moreover it attacked Enki’s boat, front and rear, with the primeval waters [in outer space] which it no doubt controlled.
- Here our brief prologue passage ends, since the author of “Gilgamesh, Enkidu, and the Nether World” is not interested in the dragon story primarily…
It is not at all unlikely that the Sumerian passage ended when it did because it couldn’t reveal that Enki / Lucifer, the liar, the “lord of the abyss” who claims to be the savior of mankind, is himself the abductor who worked through the earthly dragon to drag the immortal woman into the nether world of death.
This prototype fire-breathing dragon is so important that he warrants an entire chapter in the Bible describing his powerful attributes.
“Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn? Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee? Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever? Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens? Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants? Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears? Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him? None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me? Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine. I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle? Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about. His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered. By his [s]neesings [snortings] a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone. When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves. The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon[chain mail].
“He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble. Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear...Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear. He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.” (Job 41)
As the king over all the children of pride, i.e. the leader of all rebellion against God, he is set for destruction at the end of time.
“For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain...In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent / nachash, even leviathan that crooked serpent / nachash; and he shall slay the dragon / tannin that is in the sea.” (Isa 26:21-27:1) [This sea is above the firmament, so in outer space AKA the 2nd heaven which is destroyed in the end along with its inhabitants. Read In the Beginning post for more information on this location.]
A parallel passage in Revelation describes the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy.
“And there was war in heaven…And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him…And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war…and his name is called The Word of God…And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations…And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords…And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army…And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever…And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first [original] heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” (Rev 12:7-12; 19:11-20; 20:10, 21:1)
Continuing our quest for this reptilian shape-shifter, we find that “serpent” is also translated from another Hebrew word – seraph. (We usually encounter the plural form “seraphim” where “im” ending serves the same pluralizing function in Hebrew as “s” in English.) There is a clear connection between the two as the two Hebrew words are freely interchanged and translated into the same word serpent in the following passage.
“And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. And the LORD sent fiery serpents / seraphim nachashim among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery-serpent / seraph, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent / nachash of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent / nachash had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent / nachash of brass, he lived.” (Nu 21:5-9)
“…the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery-serpents / seraphim…(Deut 8:14-15)
Like the nachashim, seraphim are both earthly snakes and sons of God in heaven. The verb form means “burning”. The adjective “fiery” can mean “brilliantly shining” as captured in the image of polished brass. In another sense this characterizes the power that these beings have over life and death with the use of fire, as with cauterizing a festering wound or inflicting a toxin-induced burning pain or microorganism-induced fever or utter destruction.
“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.” (Isa 6:1-6)
Images of ancient Mesopotamian gods bear a striking resemblance to the biblical description of the seraphim, This would be because they were among the fallen angels. We know that Lucifer fell from the position of an angelic caste called the cherubim.
“Thus saith the LORD God…Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so…Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee…therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God…thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness…” (Eze 28:12-17)
According to the statement in Ezekiel, Lucifer was “anointed” and “set” in the position of cherub, like a high priest. We can logically conclude, then, that the looks of cherubim or seraphim described in the Bible are not intrinsic to the individual beings, but assumed while serving in that role.
However, Lucifer’s appearance as nachash is so consistent as to give us a means of identification. “Mysteriously,” virtually identical worship of the serpent in his own form is found in every culture around the world.
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him…Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you.” (Revelation 12:7-11)
It would appear that there really are alien reptilians whose leader will reveal himself to the world. Scripture confirms the alien investigators’ reports that these beings are “shape-shifters”.
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:2)
“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” (II Corinthians 11:13-14)
This would explain the discrepancies between internal biblical descriptions as well as between biblical and other ancient sources’ anthropomorphic depictions of these reptilian beings. It may also be that the fallen angels were trying to recreate heaven, and simply made themselves up as best they could into their desired, more exalted role.
A key method for tracking one single individual through name changes and a maze of mythic deceptions is through the many titles granted to him in recognition of his actions and inheritances. For example, Caesar Augustus had many titles, all of which attributed aspects of divine power. All of them are also recognized as appropriated titles of The Promised Seed / Prophesied Savior / Christ. Bingo. Caesar the first Roman emperor, and anyone taking this title as claim to be his heir, is Antichrist.
- Divi Filius, meaning ‘Son of the Divine,’ or ‘Son of God,’ was his favorite title. This title appears on almost every coin minted by Augustus.
- Dominus in Latin, or Kyrios in Greek, which means ‘Lord.’
- Soter, meaning ‘Savior,’ a title conveying that he had saved the empire from internal political instability, financial ruin, and external threats by foreign powers.
- Pontifex Maximus, meaning ‘High Priest’, i.e. vicar, human embodiment of the chief god Jupiter / Zeus who ruled through him.
This divine king brought peace to the kingdom by means of military victory, and as an expression of submission to his rule he was worshipped as a god. Anyone who refused to worship him was a traitor, a rebel and disturber of the peace.
The most ancient historical records in existence, some dated prior to the flood, are the Sumerian tablets and other inscribed objects. These predate the oldest extant (still in existence) biblical documents, and give evidence of the pervasive paganism embraced by humankind since earliest history. When we examine what these records say and compare them to the Bible we can recognize the chief god is none other than Lucifer.
On exhibit in the Louvre is a green libation vase, which was excavated from the ancient Mesopotamian city of Lagash. The inscription on it…is a dedication to Ningizzida. Also on the vase is an image of two entwined snakes on a rod. Some have dated the vase as far back as 4000 B.C. [Roughly, creation.] The rod is most likely to be Axis Mundi, the world tree, Yggdrasil [more familiar Norse name of], the tree of life. Nin-gizzida, a fertility god, was also known as ‘Nin/Lord of the Tree of Life’. He was often depicted as a serpent with a human head…The Tree of Life had also been linked with the serpent or dragon (winged serpent) for over 1,000 years before Genesis was written…a caduceus of uniting snakes, the incarnation of the god Ningizzida, one of the names: ‘Lord of the Tree of Truth’.
The reptilian image of the Nin / Lord “of the Tree of Life, Tree of Truth” is a bit confusing in that there are two elements portraying the same individual, perhaps reflecting what he once was, and what he became. Ningishzida apparently once was one of the two guardians of the King of the Gods, portrayed in this image as “the anointed cherub that covereth” with the same composite features described in the Bible of ox, man, lion, and eagle. (Eze 1, Eze 10) (A side note, the “four faces” described by Ezekiel are likely an unavoidably inadequate and inaccurate portrayal of a multi-dimensional being, and the Sumerian two-dimensional portrait is taking artistic license with an impossible task.)
“…he made two cherubims of gold…One cherub on the end on this side, and another cherub on the other end on that side…And the cherubims spread out their wings on high, and covered with their wings over the mercy seat, with their faces one to another…” (Ex 37:7-9)
Ningishzida identified himself as having become like the most high God, the main player flanked by the bodyguards. Overthrow of a ruler by a coup led by one of his own high ranking military leaders is a common threat in any government.
“O LORD of hosts…that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth…”(Isa 37:16)
This is transparently none other than Lucifer.
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground…For thou hast said in thine heart…I will be like the most High.” (Isa 14:12-14)
The Enuma Elish, the Sumerian creation story, is examined in depth in the post “King’s Dominion” because it provides some valuable detail widely known to the ancients but ignored in our time. To briefly recap, we can discern Lucifer, by any of his many names, through his characteristic pride, lies, and rebellion against the Most High God. He was thrown out of heaven to be lord of the abyss, called apsu / abzu in Sumerian.
Just like Caesar Augustus is better known by his titles than his personal name Octavian, so Lucifer was better known and worshipped by the titles referencing his eminent characteristics.
- Nudimmud = “Begetter of mankind” in Sumerianan, reflecting his rivalry with both Creator God and the Adams, and his power and rule over the underworld, abode of deceased mortal humans. His is the god of wisdom, intelligence, trickery, mischief, magic, exorcism, virility, fertility, and many other desired traits.
- Enki = “Lord of the Earth” in Sumerian, reflecting his rivalry with the human granted this honor. He is in fact granted the role of god of this world by his followers. He is often portrayed with rivers of fresh water flowing from his shoulders, or more probably, standing between the key rivers Euphrates and Tigris. However it is interpreted, this represents his claimed aspect of life-giver.
- Ea = translation into the Akkadian language for the same god.
The reality of Satan as a hyper-dimensional being that has been involved with humanity from the beginning of history is supported by the fact that he continues to be worshipped in our own culture in new age religions as:
…Serpent Seraph, Winged Serpent, Dragon, Nachash…alter-Form of HERU’s Second Person. He is the Creator and Maintainer of all worlds and beings. He is the Lord of all time [therefore death, you must realize], WHO ALONE REMAINS (SESHA) AFTER THE ANNIHILATION OF ANY MATERIAL UNIVERSE!
Not according to the Bible. You do realize this means war.
“And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea [of outer space], and his left foot on the earth, [classic pose of victory – “What is man…Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet…” (Psa 8:4-6)] And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices [in challenge]. And…I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. [Because they are not happening! Satan thunders “I will!” and God shuts him up and overrules him with “No, I WILL!”] And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer [ergo, according to quantum physics, no more four dimensional universe and according to the Bible no more death]: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.” (Rev 10:1-7)
We shouldn’t freak out about the end times, because since the day God gave dominion to mankind we have been under assault in every dimension of body, soul and spirit. The spiritual dimension is the least understood. Many people simply avoid the topic. However, we should know our enemy.
“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” (II Cor 2:11)
Becoming a follower of Jesus Christ does not guarantee us a privileged life of having all our prayer requests granted. We will be attacked by the enemy, but we have the advantage over our enemy when we expect and prepare for attacks by becoming spiritually strong.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” (Eph 6:10-18)
“…follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness [which is how we] Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal [spiritual ergo even more powerful than “mind” over matter] life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” (I Tim 6:11-12)
Even when it seems we’ve failed, we can be confident of backup support, and ultimate victory, in the face of the most dreadful circumstances.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren…What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?…Who shall separate us from the love of The Consecrated One/Messiah/Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Yahweh’s Consecrated Savior / Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Ro 8:28-39)
“So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. (I Cor 15:54)
It is essential that we understand that we are at war with Satan. If we are going to win our battles, we have to understand that victory over this supernatural powerful enemy is only made possible when we are empowered by God through connection with his Chosen Savior / Messiah Yeshua / Christ Jesus.
“God and Father of our Adonai Yahweh’s Chosen Savior/Yeshua Messiah/Lord Jesus Christ…hath blessed us with all spiritual blessing in heavenly places in The Chosen One/Messiah/Christ: according as he hath chosen us [humans vs angels] in him before the foundation of the world…having predestinated us [humans vs angels] unto the adoption of children by Yahweh’s Chosen Savior/Yeshua Messiah/Jesus Christ to himself…” (Eph 1:3-5)
“For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that thou visitest him? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. But we see Yahweh’s Savior / Yeshua / Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Heb 2:5-15)
What does that mean? “Through death he might destroy him that had the power of death.” The plot thickens. But before we investigate that, let’s summarize what we’ve learned about the main plot line so far.
God created the universe and everything in it, including powerful spirit beings commonly called angels, and less powerful material beings commonly called man, short for human. At this point, control over the universe clearly belonged to God. God chose to delegate control. That’s his prerogative. But when God told the angels that he elected to give dominion to humans instead of angels, a powerful angel, Lucifer, pitched a fit and defied God’s decision. He announced that he would seize power.
Was this an impulsive, emotional response, as is usually the case with decisions made in the heat of anger? After all, Lucifer couldn’t actually wrest power from God himself. Aaah, but he didn’t have to take it from God! He only had to take it from utterly innocent humans. For a powerful angel like Lucifer, that was like stealing candy from a baby.
