Precept: God put mankind in charge of creation.
“And God said, Let us make man…and let them have dominion” (Gen 1:26)
To have “dominion” by definition means to dominate those that oppose you. Have you ever heard of a kingdom that didn’t fight its enemies to establish and maintain its existence? God’s kingdom is no different.
“I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness...All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.“ (Psa 145:5-13)
The Bible begins with creation for a reason. Creation is fundamental to humanity’s recognition of, and trust in, God’s authority and power.
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” (Gen 1:2-5)
And right here at the very beginning of the Bible we encounter controversy – different interpretations of what the passage means. One interpretation is that God created a formless, void, and dark earth, like a black hole, then exploded it, consistent with science’s Big Bang of energy and lights. Another interpretation, The Gap Theory, teaches that right after God created a formed and enlightened heaven and earth (verse 1) it was means it became, formless and void (verse 2). The theory proposes a “gap” in the account of what happened between verses 1 and 2 and provides an explanation. I will not take time to reproduce the arguments for and against, the reader can follow the link provided if desired.
One of the main arguments against the Gap Theory is that all the unaccounted time happening in the gap can be used to reconcile the biblical account of creation with the “scientific” account of evolution, and that this is a slippery slope inevitably leading to a full embrace of “scientific” evolution and discarding of faith. Opponents of the Gap Theory generally fiercely defend creationism by insisting that everything in Genesis 1 occurred in seven 24-hour days. Let’s not get caught up in rationalizations and arguments, and simply let the record speak for itself.
In looking at the fossil record we find that, despite two hundred years discovering billions of fossils the world over, no fossils of the theorized transitional states between species have been found. The (in)conclusions drawn from just one set of bones, Lucy, the hominid hailed as fabulous proof of human evolution, are obviously highly speculative. Lucy’s incomplete skeleton can’t even justify the reconstruction drawings, let alone prove anyone’s ancestry. This is not evidence of evolution. It is evidence of evolutionists’ desperation to cling to their faith as mounting scientific evidence disproves this 19th century pre-scientific explanation for a godless world.
In contrast to the deranged imaginations of evolution, The Human Genome Project deals with facts. It catalogues existing substance – all the genes, with their variations and combinations, that together assemble a human being. Does this scientific endeavor support evolution or Intelligent Design?
Gene Myers, the computer scientist who actually put together the genome map…confessed: “We don’t understand ourselves yet…[t]here’s still a metaphysical, magical element.” (Metaphysical means “beyond the physical”; it denotes an area of investigation that has to do with the origins of objects, hence, is outside the legitimate purview of physical science.)…Myers continued: “What really astounds me is the architecture of life. The system is extremely complex. It’s like it was designed (emphasis added).” Designed? Doesn’t that imply a designer, an intelligence, something more than the fortuitous bumping together of chemicals in the primordial slime? (Even skeptics have acknowledged such. In his book, Fundamentals of Critical Thinking, Paul Ricci has stated that the principle that “‘everything designed has a designer’ is an analytically true statement” (1986, 190)…Myers replied: “There’s a huge intelligence there. I don’t see that as being unscientific. Others may, but not me” (emphasis added).
However, devout evolutionists continue to claim that “DNA supports evolution because all life on Earth carries DNA, and evolution happens only after DNA changes.” There is no logic in that circular reasoning, let alone the scientific method. Does anyone believe that computers evolved spontaneously from material substance that was hit by lightning because they are powered by electricity and there is electricity in lightning? Further attempts to link evolution to DNA should be immediately recognized as false. “These changes are called mutations and happen spontaneously from flawed – [FLAWED!] – DNA copying or from mutagens, such as X-rays or chemicals.” So why aren’t the people who were exposed to radiation from Chernobyl evolving? Because, as is common knowledge, genetic mutations are detrimental, not beneficial.
Belief in evolution is based on inference that it must exist because there is no God. It requires more denial to believe in evolution that not only has no proof and mountains of disproof than faith to believe in a Creator whose presence is evident in His irreducibly complex and highly interdependent creation. So we don’t need to limit God to a time table of seven days each lasting 24 hours to discount evolution. Let’s be true scientists and examine the evidence objectively.
What do we find when we let the Bible speak for itself? When we define a creation day we discover that the material time keepers did not even come into existence until the fourth day.
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years…And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.” (Gen 1:14-19)
If we accept that statement at face value, then creation days 1-3 at least, and therefore probably all creations days, aren’t measured by the changing position of the sun to the earth. We cannot judge the circumstances of creation week by current conditions.
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying…since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” (II Pet 3:3-4)
Spirit God is eternal. He operates outside the confines of our four-dimensional space-time. God no more needs 24 hours than he needs billions of years to create either the old or the new creation.
“Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever.” (I Tim 1:17)
“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (II Pet 3:8)
“…we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye…the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (I Cor 15:51-52)
Eternity is not longer time, it is the opposite of time. It is a quality that can’t be understood by those who haven’t transformed from mortal to immortal any more than colors can be described to someone who is colorblind or music to someone who has been deaf from birth. We can only understand that eternity cannot be measured, it has neither beginning nor end.
This verse is an example of both the benefits and the confusion that comes from having different translations of the Bible. In this instance, the different translations of the phrase chronos aionios should help clarify the meaning – “the beginning of time, the world began, ages began.” The common denominator to the different translations is that there was a beginning to time.
The simplest way to understand time is that it is, by definition, a measure. A measure of what? Decay (such as radioactive isotopes), destruction and death. Even “physicists agree that time had a beginning.” Those of us who believe the Bible know that this wasn’t at the theoretical Big Bang. This occurred, according to God’s revelation, during the 7th day of creation, as a result of Adam’s sin when death began.
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Ro 5:12)
The earth calendar, therefore, does not start in Genesis 1 but in Genesis 5 with the doleful counting of the deaths of men.
“And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died….And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died…” (Gen 5:3-8)
Time, therefore, ends when death is destroyed.
“And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished...” And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ…And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven…Saying…the hour of his judgment is come…And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle…And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped. (Rev 10:5-7, 11:15, 14:6-16)
“Behold, I shew [reveal] you a mystery; We shall not all sleep [die], but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. So when…this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” (I Cor 15:51-54)
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (I Thess 4:16-17)
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea...And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death…” (Rev 21:1-4)
If we base our interpretation of a creation “day” on what the Bible says rather than our assumptions, we find that the creation “day” is not a material quantity. It is a spiritual quality. Right in the passage “day” is defined as a state of being of light.
“And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.” (Gen 1:5)
The creation day is not a length of time, it is a state of being characterized by a condition when God is in control and personally active. It is when God’s work is done under the control of the light of the world.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men…That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.” (Joh 1:1-10)
“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (Joh 9:4-5)
Obviously Yahweh’s Savior/Jesus is not referring to 12 hours of daylight. His dedicated servant Paul confirms this interpretation, reporting that he worked tirelessly even during the earthly night to accomplish God’s work. Paul was able to work because the light of the world was in him.
“For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.” (I Thess 2:9)
“For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (II Cor 4:5-6)
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;” (I Pet 2:9)
In contrast to God’s day, the darkness of night is characterized by the absence of God’s presence and activity.
“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.” (I Joh 1:5-6)
The Hindu religion has maintained ancient records out of which we can pull some nuggets of truth about the difference between mortal and immortal, time and hyper dimensionality.
“According to them, the gods were immortal..subject to a different time frame and had their own periods of activity and rest. These constituted their days and nights. When the highest Supreme Self was awake, they believed, He would expand outwardly and manifest his objective worlds…In Hinduism time…exists only so long as we are bound to the things of this world through our senses [mortal body]. Time is a mental concept created by the movement of our senses, the celestial objects and our perceptions [which are temporarily blocked from spiritual, i.e. eternal, awareness.] It is part of the illusion in which we live and which we take for real. In God’s consciousness there are no divisions of time. There is only the present moment, one continuous, indivisible and indistinguishable state of existence.”
God didn’t just stop being active in the night. He was driven out – by his own people – who replaced him with a false god of light and life.
“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of The Chosen One/Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away/apostasy first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” (II Thess 2:1-4)
There is no misunderstanding what elevates the man of sin to the highest position of power on earth. The prophet Ezekiel documented a detailed account of the same situation. Notice the progression of apostasy that inexorably drives “the light of the knowledge of the glory of God” from his dwelling place, replacing it with the works of darkness.
“And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I sat in mine house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord God fell there upon me…and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem,
- to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy. And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there…Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north…Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? But turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.
- …And he brought me to the door of the court…And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here. So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about…He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
- Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD’s house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. Then said he unto me…turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.
- And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD’s house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east. (Eze 8:1-16)
Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court. Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory…Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house.” (Eze 10:3-4,18)
Night is not simply the absence of daylight, it is the opposite of daylight, with its own works, characterized by destructive forces opposing God’s creative work.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph 6:12)
“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:” (Col 1:12-13)
“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk [live our lives] honestly, as in the day...” (Ro 13:12-13)
In our Western (Roman) culture each 24 hour day is calculated to begin in the middle of the nighttime (hmm, interesting when we understand the metaphysical aspects of darkness) which is interrupted by daylight then resumes and wraps up the 24 hr day and merges during nighttime hours into the next 24 hr day. The biblical day is the opposite. Each day begins during the daytime, at 6:00 p.m, is interrupted by nighttime, resumes the next morning, and merges during daylight hours into the next day. If we apply this to what the Bible teaches about light and darkness, especially that there is no darkness at all in God, then the following sequence of events unfolds during the creation week.
- “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. [All light, no darkness at all. Evening – NOT MORNING – of creation day 1.]
- And [something happened and] the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was [superimposed by something other than God] upon the face of the deep. [Works of darkness during Night 1.]
- And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be [command performance, NOT creation of] light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: [God restores his work on the MORNING of creation day 1.]
and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” (Gen 1:1-5)
The theme of the Bible, the struggle for control of the world, is stated in the second sentence immediately after the statement of creation. It continues to be expressed throughout the entire first chapter at the most elementary level in the enigmatic recounting of “the evening and the morning.” Each creation day has the unspoken acknowledgment of the interjection, in the middle of each day’s work, of the opposing forces of darkness. Something like the London Blitz.
The power of light and life being opposed by the power of darkness and death shouldn’t even need explanation. This is not at all unique to creation. History is essentially a list of wars. Virtually every episode in the Bible is based on the theme of evil adversaries destroying God’s people and property during a terrible dark night. Do you want to be on the winning side? Join God who fights back and triumphs!
“He [God] is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered? Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger. Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble. Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.” (Job 9:3-7)
What is God’s weapon? The same unique power that formed the universe in the first place – his WORD!
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isa 55:11)
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my [the Savior’s] words shall not pass away.” (Matt 24:35)
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. …and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword [think sonic weapon], that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords…And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword [weapon] proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.” (Rev 9:11-21)
The voice that thundered the universe into being (the real Big Bang) is the same voice that shouts his troops to follow him into battle to end the rebellion.
Studying the Bible is not a matter of cultural-religious identity, or living right, or solving problems. IT’S NOT ABOUT ME! It is a matter of life and death FOR HUMANITY! Whose side will you be on? The word of truth, or the lie of the adversary?
Those pictures of blonde Jesus in a snow-white robe cuddling a lamb or petting children? He had one garment which he wore day and night, sweating and striding through dust and dung for three and 1/2 years, long hair and beard. You’d get a more accurate picture visualizing a homeless man.
I’m afraid our placid lives and sanitized Sunday School stories have failed to give us a proper understanding of Christianity. It helps to put biblical words into suitable graphics. It’s rough, it’s tough, it’s dirty and it’s bloody.
Wow. There’s a lot more packed into God’s days then simply going through a work routine for 24 hours. Let’s apply what we’ve learned to the days of creation.
Unless otherwise referenced the following account is taken from Genesis 1.
Day One – Creation and flooding of the first earth
Evening: God creates heaven, earth, and the host, AKA angels.
“In the beginning God created the heaven [singular] and earth. (Gen 1:1)
“Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? (Job 38:4-7)
“He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.“ (Job 26:7)
I surveyed the stone which supports the corners of the earth. I also beheld the four winds, which bear up the earth…(Enoch 38:2-3)
Night: Creation is plunged into darkness and destruction because of rebellion by them.
“…they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge. I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.” (Jer 4:22-23)
Who are they? I contend (that’s a pun) that God didn’t give us more detail in Genesis because everybody knew the story back when the Bible was written. It is only recently that a culture that prides itself on universal education has become so ignorant, therefore so vulnerable to the Adversary’s lies.
For starters, we know in context that they are immortal because time/death hasn’t happened yet. This is confirmed by the recounting of creation in Job where the angels must be created before the earth in order to be able notice and praise it. This is immediately followed by God’s reproof. Some of those angels rebelled through pride, specifically a crooked serpent.
He…hangeth the earth upon nothing. He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them. He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it. He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end. The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof. He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud…his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.” (Job 26:7-12)
Let’s check out (that’s another pun, think library) other ancient accounts of creation. While not entirely reliable, myths hold elements of truth that can fill in some of our missing puzzle pieces.
The oldest extant (still existing) documents of creation are water-proof baked clay tablets dated to ~2100 BC. This is only 300 years after a flood date of ~2400 BC. This story, titled the Enuma Elis[h], records the Sumerian version of creation,
We know the Sumerian culture as the first post-flood civilization, but it is generally agreed by archeologists that the Sumerian culture came into existence earlier, about 3500 BC, ~500 years after the start of human history at ~4,000 BC, lasting about 1,000 years until the flood. In other words, the first widespread post-flood culture was a rebirth of the culture that had been wiped out by the flood.
Makes sense. Our own Western culture is a re-birth, “re-naissance” of the Greco-Roman culture, based on documents preserved for hundreds of years, after it was almost wiped out by its own catastrophes. The Sumerian account, carried through the flood, gives us a window into the foundational, pre-flood, world-wide Luciferian religion.
The Enuma Elish parallels Genesis enough to provide detractors of the Bible with the claim that the Hebrews plagiarized the Sumerians. Just another of the constant battles for truth. And how does one prove or disprove a claim of plagiarism?
For one thing, only the biblical account of creation is written as a narrative, intended to be an historical account of actual events. Significantly, other ancient creation accounts are poetry. Poetry is not intended to be taken literally, it is by definition imaginative.
Furthermore, the Hebrew scriptures alone state that:
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.” (Ro 1:18-21)
Collateral information from the latest physics research supports the Hebrew scriptures alone which claim that the God of the Bible spoke the worlds into existence and the sons of God sing.
“Thus saith God the LORD [YHVH], he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein…I am the LORD that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” (Isa 42:5-8)
The Sumerian account vaguely mentions “naming”, i.e. “and God said, Let there be _____, and it was so” but never credits the One who names.
The Enuma Elish opens on the stage at which there was only one primeval, chaotic sea – Apsu/Apzu. This then split to form a second body of water, called Tiamat, above the point of reference, which is the earth. This parallels Job 26:7-12 which we just read:
- He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds
- He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night…end
- He divideth the sea with his power
- by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.” (Job 26:7-12)
But before the deep / sea split in two, the gods, i.e. celestial beings, are created. This supports the interpretation that the angels were created, and Lucifer revolted, extinguishing his light and causing night, in the era described in Genesis 1:1-2.
When skies above were not yet named
Nor earth below pronounced by name,
Apsu the first one, their begetter [fresh water]
And maker Tiamat who bore them all, [salt water]
Had mixed their waters together…
When yet no gods were manifest,
Nor names pronounced, nor destinies decreed,
Then gods were born within them.
The text is extremely vague about the origins of the gods, as it must in order to ignore the Creator. This is pantheism, where power to create and instill life is in all “being”. We can see the origins of what is supposedly “purely” scientific, but is in actuality an alternate religion, of evolution of life from a primordial chaos of atoms. In fact, our word and concept of “chaos” is exactly, unchanged, the Greek name for Apsu.
Lahmu and Lahamu their names pronounced. [slime and mud]
As soon as they matured, were fully formed,
Anshar and Kisar were born, surpassing them… [sky and earth]
We can see the origins of the Big Bang theory in the Sumerian account, until finally a personhood is acknowledged.
Anu their first-born son rivalled his forefathers…
An/Anu belongs to the oldest generation of Mesopotamian gods and was originally the supreme deity of the Babylonian pantheon. Consequently, his major roles are as an authority figure, decision-maker and progenitor. In heaven he allots functions to other gods, and can increase their status at will…On earth he confers kingship, and his decisions are regarded as unalterable…An/Anu is sometimes credited with the creation of the universe itself…Of the three levels of heaven, he inhabited the highest…An/Anu frequently receives the epithet “father of the gods.”
This does describe the biblical most High God, who even his enemies acknowledge, which they must in order to target him as their enemy.
“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” (Psa 2:2-3)
“I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” (Dan 4:34-35)
We should not be surprised to find that An/Anu is acknowledged as the YHVH God of the Bible, as paganism accepts any and all gods. They just refuse to give YHVH and his only begotten son the submission due them. Anu retained his essential character and high status throughout Mesopotamian history.
“Indeed, when other gods are elevated to a position of leadership, they are said to receive the anûtu, the “Anu-power”. For example, in Enūma eliš the gods express Marduk’s authority over them by declaring: “Your word is Anu!” (Tablet IV, lines 4-6). “Later An/Anu came to share or cede these functions…”
According to the biblical account, yes he did share and cede his functions, to both angels and humans. A power struggle then developed between power-hungry angels and humans.
Our Western culture is more familiar with the Greek correlates to the Sumerian pantheon, where the first class of gods are, like the Sumerian, anthropomorphized forces, conditions like light (Aether) and places like sky (Uranus), sea (Pontus), earth (Gaia), and under the earth (Tartarus). The Greeks enhance our understanding of what the ancients are reporting by describing Nyx, who parallels Tiamat, as “the goddess of Night”, i.e. the works of darkness.
The first true Greek personal deity, the equivalent of the Sumerian Anu, is Ur-anus. He begets the first rank of actual spirit beings, what we call angels, and what the Greeks called the Titans. Despite the fact that he is the named ancestor of all the rest of the equivalent of the Sumerian gods, no cult addressed directly to Uranus survived into classical times. The reason is obvious. Anu/Ur-anus [anu]/YHVH could not be destroyed, so he is simply ignored by his rebel sons who developed cults centered on themselves.
While it may seem a random distraction to learn about the ancient gods in this study, I suggest you bear in mind that these are the gods that the Apostle Paul and the early church had to overcome, and these same gods are boldly resurfacing in our day.
Various analysts match up the Sumerian gods differently with the other cultures because there is no Rosetta Stone to define their relationships for us. We do have the Bible however, which can define significant matches. The consistency / reliability found in the Bible is one validation of its claim to be the source of truth, while the confusion found in the host of alternate explanations should be an obvious indication of lack of truth, and even deliberate deception by those forwarding their own agenda – self empowerment.
For example, in alchemy Cronus / Saturn is equated with the God of the Bible “on account of the keeping holy of the Sabbath Saturday means ‘Saturn’s Day’ and also on account of the Gnostic parallel with the supreme archon Ialdabaoth (‘child of chaos’) who, as, may be grouped together with Baal, Kronos…”
Well, I’m not buying that.
- Sabbath = seventh, the day God rested and the name was changed by pagans to honor the pagan god Saturn.
- The God of the Bible is most certainly not the same as Baal who in the Bible is unequivocally denounced.
- Neither is he equivalent to Kronos / Chronos from which we get chronology or time which is a function of death. God is life.
But you see, only people who know the Bible would know how wrong this presentation is!
Equating the God of the Bible with Saturn is a particularly deliberate and significant lie when we discover the religious beliefs behind Saturn.
The age that man later called the Age of K[Ch]ronos (Saturn) was remembered with nostalgia as an age of bliss. References to the Age of Kronos in the ancient lore are very numerous.
Hesiod tells of…A golden race of mortal men who lived in the time of Kronos when he was reigning in heaven. And they lived like gods without sorrow of heart, remote and free from toil: miserable age rested not on them . . . The fruitful earth unforced bare them fruit abundantly and without stint. They dwelt in ease and peace upon their lands with many good things. . .
Similarly writes Ovid in the sixth book of his Metamorphoses:
In the beginning was the Golden Age, when men of their own accord, without threat of punishment, without laws, maintained good faith and did what was right.
According to the Bible, a Golden Age happened only with the first two humans, when there was one law (“Don’t eat the fruit) and a threat of punishment (death) before Kronos / Time reigned as a consequence of disobedience and death. Rejecting the biblical account of mankind’s self-centered, i.e. sinful nature, with its inevitable consequences of strife, destruction, and therefore struggle for existence leads dreamers to accept the lie that a life of effortless comfort can be lived, and to support the liar who promises to bring it about, whether he deals in drugs or political promises he knows he can’t keep.
So who is Cronus/Chronos/Saturn really? The son of Anu/Uranus. Returning to the foundational pagan, the Sumerian, account of creation:
And Anu begot Nudimmud in his likeness.
Notice in the charts above that the Sumerians and the Greeks acknowledge that Anu / Uranus begot all the gods / celestial beings / angels of that generation. The Anu-nna or Annunaki are the children of Anu, commonly called angels and conceived of in our technological day as the ancient astronauts who came to earth in the past and are still in contact as aliens in UFOs. These are the “sons of God” who sang at creation. In the biblical account the main player introduced immediately is Adam, the human son of God. In the Sumerian account the main player is, of course, Lucifer. He goes by an alias, but is recognized by his features.
He, Nudimmud, was superior to his forefathers…
He had no rival among the gods his peers.
Nudimmud, more commonly known as “The god Ea (whose Sumerian equivalent was Enki) is one of the three most powerful gods in the Mesopotamian pantheon, along with Anu and Enlil…Sumerian texts about Enki often include overtly sexual portrayals of his virile masculinity…Ea has associations with wisdom, magic and incantations…he is the ultimate source of all ritual knowledge used by exorcists to avert and expel evil. Ea was patron of the arts and crafts, and all other achievements of civilization…”
“Enki…Nudimmud, the mighty one…the strong one of the Anunna[ki]…Enki, lord of the hegal [I can’t find what this means], lord of wisdom, lord, beloved of An, ornament of Eridu [possibly the oldest city in the world], who directs commands and decisions, expert at fate-decreeing…You bring down the stars of heaven...Enki, king of the Abzu, celebrates his own magnificence – as is his right.”
Now there’s a clue. We can match the Sumerian Enki/Ea who brings down the stars of heaven with the biblical creature who does the same.
“And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels…(Rev 12:4-5)
The divine brothers banded together, They disturbed…they rushed here and there…
Apsu could not diminish their clamor…Their doings were loathsome to him. Offensive and overbearing were their ways. Then Apsu, the begetter of great gods, Cried out, addressing Mummu, his vizier [minister, [Logos/Word of God] “0 Mummu, my vizier, who rejoices my spirit, Come hither…” “Their ways are truly abominable unto me…I will destroy, I will wreck their ways… Let us have rest!”…answered Mummu…”Destroy, my father, their rebellious ways… Now whatever they had plotted between them, Was repeated unto the gods, their first-born.
Whoa! Slip of the tongue?
- Apsu in the character of the originator god,
- his spirit,
- and his son Mummu, the minister / executor of the wishes / word of Apsu
These all correlate to the biblical God as Father, Holy Spirit and Son. And if the gods / angels are the “first-born”, who are the younger sons? We’ll come to that shortly, but just take note that here they are acknowledged to be sons of the same creator god.
And here Lucifer, as the Sumerian Ea / Enki, writes history according to the way he wants the world to see it, with himself as victor. The account of Enki’s revolt against the Creator gives details about the works of darkness, the Nights of Creation week.
When the gods heard this, they were astonished…and remained speechless. Superior in wisdom, accomplished and resourceful, Ea, the all-wise… Made artful his spell against it…He recited it and made it subsist in the deep, As he poured sleep upon him…Apsu lie…in sleep, Mummu…was powerless to stir. He loosened Apsu’s band, tore off his tiara, Removed his halo and put it on himself.
Having constrained [seized the rule from] Apsu , he slew him. Mummu he bound and locked….holding him by the nose-rope… After Ea had vanquished and tramped down…assured his triumph over his enemies, In profound peace he rested in his sacred chamber, He named it “Apsu”… He founded his cult in that same place…dwelled there in splendor.
We can see that the Adversary spins his defeat and invents an explanation as to why he isn’t residing in heaven anymore. The truth is:
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” (Rev 12:7-9)
The Underworld formed from the original deep or Abzu is the dwelling place of Enki who is described as “a reptilian god” corresponding to a primordial dragon called “Kur“. This place, also called Kur, is the abode of devils and other monstrous creatures. This place corresponds to what some modern mystics call a “hollow earth” inhabited by a “higher civilization” whose only desire is to “help” mankind. This conviction is, once again, the classic lie, the anxiety-driven defense-mechanism denial of the true biblical description of the deep as a place of torment.
“…there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not…And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep / abysson.” (Lu 8:27-31)
Westerners are more familiar with the Greek translation of this battle of the gods into the Clash of the Titans.
Zeus, the leader of the rebel Titans, is the Greek equivalent of Sumerian Enki/Ea.
“And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write…I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
The value of decoding the mystifying ancient stories should begin to add up. Now we know that
- the Hebrew Satan is
- the Greek Zeus who is
- the Sumerian Enki/Ea
Enki/Zeus/Lucifer was created, was functioning for some time as an obedient son of the Creator God, then chose to rebel. When did this happen? During a rebellion, the works of darkness. This can only be during the first episode of darkness. Nothing else explains the darkness, because “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (I Joh 1:5) Logically then Lucifer and the rest of the angels had to be created prior to the first night, during the first evening.
“Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.” (Eze 28:12-18)
“Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart. My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment. How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet? For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge. I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man [ha adam], and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.” (Jer 4:22-28)
Morning: the day dawns, God’s work re-established as “the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
“He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them…He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end…He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.” (Job 26:8-12)
And here is where we decypher the reason the Sumerians named Apsu as the enemy that Enki and his host purportedly defeated. First, Anu/YHVH is obviously still around, undefeated, so the account can’t claim he isn’t. But a flood, a primordial sea covering everything, an absu, was, and then was not.
“…there shall come in the last days scoffers…saying…all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished…” (II Pet 3:3-7)
Hold on! you say. That would be the flood of Noah. Yes, that describes the flood of Noah, but can you prove that was the only flood? Peter is describing a flood in the context of “the beginning of the creation.”
More often than not we see cycles of prophecy, repetition of events until a final fulfillment occurs. Conduct what health professions call a “focused assessment” on the following account of creation week. This avoids being distracted from extraneous details so we can pull out the significant detail.
At that time the earth was wet and malleable from flooding.
“when I laid the foundations of the earth…shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth…the earth…is turned as clay to the seal; [soft and wet] (Job 38:4-14)
Interesting that God said he would never destroy the earth with a flood…again. Suggestive that Noah’s flood wasn’t the first one, and that humans knew flooding was a standard practice and after their horrific experience as traumatized survivors were legitimately terrified of yet another occurrence. Pay attention to the extravagant reassurances God gives over and over again in nine verses (Genesis 9:9-17). Put some life into the written word! Feel how this is a parent telling his children to trust him, “I promise I won’t let you die!” under dire circumstances.
Can you think of any other place in scripture where God goes to this extent making promises in the same passage? There is a reason for it. What is not recorded is undoubtedly the frantic babbling, sobbing and screaming from the eight people with severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as they are dragged out of the ark to a devastated world.
“And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
- And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.
- And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood;
- neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
- And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
- I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
- And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud [bringer of judgment] over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
- And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
- And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
I submit to you that the ancients texts elucidate what the Hebrew text takes for granted, that God did not create a dark, formless, void universe. The Sumerian text tells us that Enki/Lucifer attacked what the Hebrew text tells us he had walked in – a garden and a mountain of God over which was an atmosphere with clouds. This is what became dark and void by the actions of the adversaries of light and life, through a flood that overwhelmed it.
Day Two – Repairs begin with a flood wall
Evening: God brings order to chaos.
“And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.“
The Hebrew noun for firmament, raqia רָקִיעַ, comes from the root verb raqa רָקַע which means to stamp, hammer or beat out, indicating a solid vault over the earth. Job solidifies (that’s a pun) this interpretation of a hard firmament.
Even modern glass mirrors are backed by a coating of metal.
“And God made the firm-ament, and divided the waters which were under the firm-ament from the waters which were above the firm-ament: and it was so. And God called the firm-ament Heaven.”
Interesting that the text doesn’t say “And God said…” In the context of the clash of the Titans going on at this time, here is one way God could have “made” a solid wall firmament – a defensive shield wall. Maybe the Romans got the idea from their gods.
This concept absolutely makes sense when we get to the verse that says that the stars, i.e. angels, are “in” the firmament.
“And God made…the stars…And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.” (Gen 1:16-18)
Interesting that the Enuma Elish supports this view. In the following section Marduk is Satan’s seed who defeats the god Tiamat who is the primordial sea. More on this later, for now just focus on the description of the creation of the firmament and its lights.
Marduk strengthened his hold on the vanquished gods, And turned back to Tiamat [chaotic waters above] whom he had bound…He split her like a shellfish into two parts: Half of her he sat up as the ceiling of the sky [solid ice? the other half remaining as liquid ‘outer space’], He pulled down the bar [locked it closed] and posted guards. He ordered them not to allow her waters to escape. He crossed the heavens and surveyed the regions.
Ironically, compelling evidence for taking the Bible literally comes from non-believers. N.F. Gier, who in 1987 was attempting to debunk a literal interpretation of the Bible in favor of the scientific positions at that time, states that the “most conclusive reason for taking the Hebrew solid heaven literally is that such a view was all over the ancient world of the time.” He therefore drew the conclusion that the biblical belief system was not revelation from God but drawn from the ancient pagan worldview which was mythological, unscientific, ergo inaccurate.
However, true scientific research does not draw a conclusion from a correlation. The pervasiveness of the ancient view of the firmament could indicate a common source, which could be divine revelation, and validate the biblical account. “Actual scientific research is never conclusive but simply opens more lines of inquiry.” That’s not a biblical quote, that’s from infamously ultra liberal UC Berkeley.
The pervasive availability of computers and the internet since 1987 has resulted in an ongoing exponentially exploding increase of knowledge in many fields. Theoretical physics, for example, has followed through on Einstein’s search for a Unified Field Theory (UFT) of the four hypothetical forces (gravitational, electromagnetic, strong and weak nuclear), adding into it a search for an explanation of the structure of matter for a Theory of Everything (TOE), leading to String Theory. Stay with me. This is not just a tangent but important for understanding much of what follows in the biblical narrative.
- 1 Planck length of vibrating energy loosely envisioned as a “string”.
- The movement of the vibrating length traces width, and thus becomes 2D, like a drawing.
- Further vibration within other dimensions such as height and length makes the energy field assume the form of a quantum particle.
- Humans are four dimensional, therefore cannot accurately perceive the higher dimensions or time travel without the interjection of power from those dimensions. Imagine a three dimensional pyramid passing through a two dimensional world. The lower dimensional beings will not be able to perceive anything but a flat triangle gradually enlarging unless a higher dimensional being provides a three dimensional drawing. The same conditions hold true for 4 dimensional beings perceiving any aspects of a 10 dimensional reality. Do you get where I’m going with this? UFOs.
- “The idea of hidden dimensionality of space can seem occult.”
- “Spacetime is a sea [that’s right, a sea] of roiling shapes, quantum foam.” (Yes, this sounds exactly like the Enuma Elish or Genesis 1, but it is actually the latest scientific description of the universe.)
“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” (Heb 11:3)
String Theory ties in with “God called the firmament Heaven.“ The Hebrew word for “called” is qara / קָרָא It covers a lot of applications for verbalizing, including bringing into existence a blessing or curse or even a being.
We can therefore understand that whenever God “called” something by name, he brought into existence its perceived physical characteristics by imposing structure on energy.
The Higgs boson, sometimes referred to as the ‘god particle,’ much to the chagrin of scientists who prefer the official name…signals the existence of the Higgs field, an invisible energy field present throughout the universe that imbues other particles with mass…The Higgs field emerged at the birth of the universe.
“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power,” (Heb 1:1-3)
It appears that science is just catching up with the ancient cultures as well. As our understanding of physics and technological capabilities increase beyond the wildest dreams of our generation, investigators examining thousands’ years’ old artifacts are forced to deduce that ancient cultures had high technology and advanced scientific knowledge that was lost to subsequent, degenerated societies and is still not known in our day. At least not to the average person, who can say what our secret government agencies have learned?
Certainly, with the renaissance of physical science we can understand that the firmament could have been formed as an impenetrable forcefield. In addition to blocking floodwaters, it also blocks things that shouldn’t be on earth, invading… shall we say… aliens.
”Dead things [not inactive but separated from life, like vampires] are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof. Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering. He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud. By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent. ” (Job 26:5-13)
More on this in a later post, but for now take note that the technology available to the pre-flood people who brought the world to the brink of utter destruction was also available – no doubt through a massive library of documents carried on the ark through the flood – to the first post-flood civilization. The efforts being made at the tower of Babel are stated to have been in actuality capable of “reaching unto heaven“, i.e. breaking through the forcefield, with the stated intention of empowering the elite through the gods.
“And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.” (Gen 11:5-6)
Interesting that current philosophy holds that “it is humanity’s number one global moral imperative to provide the educational and technological resources, as well as develop the overall mindset, for the advancement of space exploration and colonization.” Who can argue against morality? Probably the same group of people who didn’t believe there was any morality in the original Apollo. Or in the occult foundation of the Nazi regime that developed rocket science for the purpose of imposing a master race of supermen over an enslaved humanity. Are you catching the parallels? Our culture is certainly developing the mindset.
- A literal straightforward acceptance that God said what He meant and meant what He said, or
- God told a gross lie which was passed on by the rebel angels/gods who guided the building of astronomically oriented pyramids and other megalithic structures using scientific and technological methods still inexplicable in our day until a medieval theoretician could reveal “the truth” using only the simplest telescope and a mathematical system that could but not necessarily does account for a heliocentric view of the world without any physical proof for hundreds of years until contradictory photographic “evidence” that couldn’t hold up in a court of law was presented by a secret branch of government.
…a fully developed heliocentric model was developed by Aristarchus of Samos in the 3rd century BC, [but] these ideas were not successful in replacing the view of a static…Earth, and from the 2nd century AD the predominant model, which would be inherited by medieval astronomy, was the geo [earth] centric model described in Ptolemy‘s Almagest.
The Ptolemaic system was a sophisticated astronomical system that managed to calculate the positions for the planets to a fair degree of accuracy. Ptolemy himself, in his Almagest, points out that any model for describing the motions of the planets / [astronomical bodies] is merely a mathematical device, and since there is no actual way to know which is true, the simplest model that gets the right numbers should be used.
Amazingly, Galileo himself, the 17th century astronomer famous for popularizing heliocentricity, also discounted heliocentrity when he articulated Relativity.
Galileo reasoned that if a ship [think earth] moved uniformly on the sea [upperspace with the sun, moon and stars], a sailor could not distinguish between the situations either the ship [earth] is in motion and the sea [upper space] is at rest or the ship [earth] is at rest and the sea [upper space] is in motion. In Galileo’s view- the only motion that is measurable is the relative motion between the ship and the sea; hence the term “Relativity” was manifested first ever.
The first step is to clarify what we mean by motion. Using Cartesian co-ordinate system in three dimensions, we can characterize any location by three co-ordinates of that space point. When we say that something is moving, what we mean is that its position relative to something else is changing. That is all motion is relative. In each case a frame of reference is part of the description of the motion.
In other words, the claims that the earth moves and the sun stands still is just a mental frame of reference placing the observer at the sun. It is scientifically equally valid to claim that the earth stands still and the sun, moon and stars move around the earth from a frame of reference standing on the earth. This is obvious to anyone who looks up at the sky, or looks out of the window of a moving car. It also becomes obvious that heliocentricity is a spiritual frame of reference honoring the sun god, while geocentricity honors the Son of God who was given this world as a home base from which to rule all creation.
Einstein would later further develop this concept in his massive theories of General and Special Relativity in his effort to try to understand the nature of the material universe.
Do you care enough about this essential premise, on which we build faith in everything else God said, to check it out? Or are you more certain than Einstein that you already know?
Day Three – Terraforming
Evening: moving on with the work of daytime –
“And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear…”
Disregarding the dates assigned by evolutionists and the globular presentation, we can still consider the biblical confirmation of the existence of the many ice ages, the traces of which are left behind for our edification.
“Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth. He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth. After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard. God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend. For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth…and cold out of the north. By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.” (Job 37:3-10)
Photo of Antarctica, where in a complete circle the breadth of the waters / oceans are straitened (limited) by a wall of frost/ice.
Disregarding the dates assigned by evolutionists and the globular presentation, we can still consider the biblical confirmation of the existence of Pangea which was subsequently torn apart in the ongoing battle over the earth.
Night: opposed by rebel forces.
“…and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
Day Four – Lights in the sky
Evening: the vegetation just created needs sunlight, so immediately sunlight is made.
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.“
Notice that in the biblical version the sun is not the source but the bearer of light. While science confidently claims that the sun is the source of light, it can’t explain the nature of light. “In simple terms, light is one of nature’s freaky exceptions.”
The Book of Enoch describes the placing of the sun, moon and stars in the firmament in greater detail, where it appears that the stars are a category of the celestial beings we call angels, called “luminaries”. We are grossly simplifying God’s creation when we assume that all the angels look and function like the human males we know about in a handful of biblical accounts. We will discover later on that many angels correspond to animals. The serpent, for example.
I saw the winds which turn the sky, which cause…all the stars to set…I saw the path of the angels. I perceived at the extremity of the earth the firmament of heaven above it. (Enoch 17:6-8)
This is the first law of the luminaries. The sun and the light arrive at the gates of heaven, which are on the east, and on the west of it at the western gates of heaven. I beheld the gates whence the sun goes forth; and the gates where the sun sets; In which gates also the moon rises and sets; and I beheld the conductors of the stars, among those who precede them; six gates were at the rising, and six at the setting of the sun. All these respectively, one after another, are on a level; and numerous windows are on the right and on the left sides of those gates… (Enoch 71)
After this law I beheld another law of an inferior luminary, the name of which is the moon, and the orb of which is as the orb of heaven. Its chariot, which it secretly ascends, the wind blows; and light is given to it by measure. Every month at its exit and entrance it becomes changed; and its periods are as the periods of the sun. And when in like manner its light is to exist, its light is a seventh portion from the light of the sun…(Enoch 72)
These are the leaders of the chiefs of the thousands, those which preside over all creation, and over all the stars; And the days, Uriel showed me; the angel whom the Lord of glory appointed over all the luminaries…Conductors of the days and nights: the sun, the moon, the stars, and all the ministers of heaven, which make their circuit with all the chariots of heaven. Thus Uriel showed me twelve gates…at the extremities of the earth, through which the sun, moon, and stars, and all the works of heaven, proceed at their rising and setting. I saw likewise the chariots of heaven, running in the world above to those gates in which the stars turn, which never set. One of these is greater than all, which goes round the whole world. (Enoch 74)
Again we find that in the Sumerian account of creation the god Marduk takes credit for placing lights in the sky.
He constructed stations for the gods, Aligning their astral likenesses as constellations. He determined the year by assigning the zones: He set up three constellations for each of the twelve months. After defining the days of the years by means of astrological figures, He founded the station of Nebiru to determine their divine bands, That none might transgress or fall short. Alongside it he set up the stations of Enlil and Ea. Having opened up the gates on both sides, He strengthened the locks to the left and the right. In her belly he established the zenith. The moon he caused to shine, the night to him entrusting. He appointed him a creature of the night to signify the days.
Night: opposed by rebel forces.
Morning: God, again, wins this battle.
“And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.”
Reputable scientists have concluded that “Something” had to put the moon in orbit with its precise altitude, course, and speed.“ (This blog links to many esoteric and atheistic sources which deny the God of the Bible, but still, however, reveal truths in the Bible. Filter everything through the biblical narrative. Interesting ideas about the moon can be taken from the linked blog without converting to the belief systems proposed by that blog.)
Day Five – Fish and Fowl
“And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
Night: opposed by rebel forces. Logically this would indicate massive sudden die-offs, which we should expect to find as fossils. Is there any geological evidence of the kind of catastrophism envisioned by this view of creation? Yes. God reveals himself not only in the written word, but in the physical world.
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” (Ro 1:18-20)
Morning: Survival of some, as happened through the flood of Noah.
“And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”
Day Six – Land Animals & Mankind
“And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so…and God saw that it was good.”
Night: opposed by rebel forces. Again, this would indicate massive die-offs with a fossil record.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion…over all the earth…So God created man…and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”
“What is man, that thou art mindful of him?...Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet.” (Psa 8:4-6)
How utterly stupefying that there are people who consider themselves the superior educated elite who scorn the biblical version that God turned creation over to mankind
in preference to a world view that says that the gods created humans as their slaves!
Sumer, the ‘land of civilized kings’, flourished in Mesopotamia, now modern-day Iraq, around 4500 BC. [pre-flood]. Sumerians created an advanced civilization with its own system of elaborate language and writing, architecture and arts, astronomy and mathematics. Their religious system was a complex one comprised of hundreds of gods. According to the ancient texts, each Sumerian city was guarded by its own god; and while humans and gods used to live together, the humans were servants to the gods.
When the gods like men
Bore the work and suffered the toll
The toil of the gods was great,
The work was heavy, the distress was much.
Anu, the god of gods, agreed that their labour was too great and gave permission to Enki/Ea to make inferior beings as worker drones. The claim that the gods, AKA stars, formed humans (look again at the graphic at the beginning of this post) absolutely opposes the Hebrew scriptures which clearly did not plagiarize the Sumerian on this key point. As you read the Sumerian account, however, can you catch the parallels to the biblical account of Jesus, the Son of God, dying to bind man to God, to make a family of equals?
You have slaughtered a god together
With his personality [soul]
In the clay, god and man
Shall be bound,
To a unity brought together;
So that to the end of days
The Flesh and the Soul
Which in a god have ripened –
That soul in a blood-kinship be bound.
Bible believers know that first Anu then humans themselves, not Enki, are the true begetters of mankind, and that humans are assigned dominion over all creation while the celestial beings were assigned to be our servants.
“Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom…And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands…But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? (Heb 1:4-14) Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:” (Heb 6:17)
These are the secrets of this oath, and by it were they confirmed.
- Heaven was suspended by it before the world was made, for ever.
- By it has the earth been founded upon the flood; while from the concealed parts of the hills the agitated waters proceed forth from the creation to the end of the world.
- By this oath the sea has been formed, and the foundation of it. During the period of its fury he has established the sand against it, which continues unchanged for ever; and
- by this oath the abyss has been made strong; nor is it removable from its station for ever and ever.
- By this oath the sun and moon complete their progress, never swerving from the command given to them for ever and ever.
- By this oath the stars complete their progress; And when their names are called, they return an answer, for ever and ever. Thus in the heavens take place the blowings of the winds: all of them have breathings, and effect a complete combination of breathings. There the treasures of thunder are kept, and the splendour of the lightning. There are kept the treasures of hail and of frost, the treasures of snow, the treasures of rain and of dew.
- All these confess and laud before the Lord of spirits. They glorify with all their power of praise; and he sustains them in all that act of thanksgiving; while they laud, glorify, and exalt the name of the Lord of spirits for ever and ever.
- And with them he establishes this oath, by which they and their paths are preserved; nor does their progress perish. Great was their joy. They blessed, glorified, and exalted, BECAUSE THE NAME OF THE SON OF MAN WAS REVEALED TO THEM. (Enoch 68:23-38)
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world…Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD / YHVH, my strength, and MY REDEEMER.” (Psa 19)
Do you see why creation is a prime target for the enemy? It testifies of God’s great love for humanity. How tragic, but how utterly predictable, that the majority of people believe the deceiver’s twisted portrayal of God as a tyrant.
We know that the Sumerian myth isn’t true, but can we still catch a glimpse of the truth about mankind’s creation and inheritance in the Sumerian documents? I believe we can. Again, look closely at the characteristics and attributes of the individual to discern his true identity.
Enlil was the son of Anu / YHVH who was given dominion over the earth. This corresponds to the biblical Adam who was originally immortal, so classified along with the other immortals as a god.
Enlil is considered Enki’s half brother. The Sumerian account is a reflection of Lucifer’s rivalry with humans. As explained in detail in a later post, Lucifer’s insistence that he will be like the Most High is more than a challenge to replace the Most High, it is a challenge to replace humans as God’s designated drivers of the earth. A lot of mythology suddenly makes sense if you keep this in mind.
And here’s where the action ramps up. In Sumerian religion Enlil formed a triad which governed the heavens, earth, and underworld. As you read about Enlil’s interactions with Enki/Satan you may need to houseclean your Sunday School memories of the Adams just wandering around the garden having a picnic. No, that was the Israelites in the desert and that was a punishment, not a blessed way of life.
As part of his delegated responsibilities Enlil was the keeper of the Tablets of Destiny (or Tablet of Destinies) which contained the fates of gods and humanity. The Tablets of Destiny were considered an unstoppable force whose decisions could not be questioned.
Hmm. That sounds familiar.
“I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.” (Dan 7:9-10)
If we examine this account in light of the Bible this sounds like the biblical plan of eternal salvation to me. Could these tablets be Adam’s memoires of life with God before the fall, capturing his exclusive interviews with God? Why would we assume that Moses or Job were the first to think, “Hey, people ought to know about this”?
Now, my son Mathusala, all these things I speak unto thee, and write for thee. To thee I have revealed all, and have given thee books of everything. Preserve, my son Mathusala, the books written by thy father; that thou mayest transmit them to future generations. Wisdom have I given to thee, to thy children, and thy posterity, that they may transmit to their children, for generations for ever, this wisdom in their thoughts; and that those who comprehend it may not slumber, but hear with their ears; that they may learn this wisdom, and be deemed worthy of eating this wholesome food. (Enoch 81)
Do you seriously think that the pagans documented their belief system and the worshippers of God did not, or that Sumerian pagan tablets could survive the flood and God’s written word not? Oh, it was certainly contested and stolen and destroyed whenever possible, but it didn’t pass away.
Sumerian texts record that with the arrival of the Sons of Annu in the Valley between the two rivers, the very first object that was brought with them were two or more tablets of a shiny bronze like appearance that held immense power and knowledge. These tablets were fought over, lost, hidden and stolen many times… From the earliest of recorded text the Tablets of Destiny, were involved in the wars and conflicts of the Annu. With the possession of the Tablets of Destiny your military prowess was increased, and this fact often brought victory to the holder.
That sounds familiar.
“At that time the LORD said unto me [Moses], Hew thee two tables of stone…and make thee an ark of wood. And I will write on the tables…and thou shalt put them in the ark…And he wrote on the tables…the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me. And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me. (Deut 10:1-5)
“Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.” (Josh 6:1-5)
“And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines…the elders of Israel said...Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies…And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again. And when the Philistines…understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp…the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore. Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness. Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight. And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. And the ark of God was taken…And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod…into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day. But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof. They sent therefore and …carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither. And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction…So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there…and the cry of the city went up to heaven.” (I Sam 4:2-11,5:1-12)
In all of human history there has been only two sets of tablets that empower the fate of man. The tablets of the Ten Commandments and the Tablets of Destiny. Could it be that the Tablets of Destiny are the real power behind the Tablets that Moses returns with from Mount Sinai?
The tablets though were not from the valley of Sumer, and may not have originated from earth, but they have always been apart of the earth and mankind. What do they look like? In the Sumerian creation tablets…“Marduk took the tablets of Destiny…and sealed it and place it on his breast”. So the Tablets of Destiny are on the breast of Marduk.
From the ancient image of Marduk the Tablets of Destiny are clearly seen placed around his neck on his breast. His heavily designed overcoat and hat shows the motifs of the Tablets of Destiny. All this points to the fact that having ownership of the Tablets gives the owner a position of considerable power and importance.
In the context of rival religious systems, the Tablets of Destiny are the equivalent of the Israelite High Priest’s breastplate of judgment.
“And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it…And they shall bind the breastplate by the rings thereof unto the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it may be above the curious girdle of the ephod, and that the breastplate be not loosed from the ephod. And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually. And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goeth in before the LORD: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.” (Ex 28: 15-30)
From a biblical perspective the Sumerians highjacked the true religion, and the reason it appears that Moses plagiarized the earlier documents of the Sumerians is because the true believers were almost all wiped out and it took time and an act of God to build up a big enough community to re-establish the ancient way of life centered on YHVH.
Day Seven – Death & Time, Resurrection & Eternity
“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host [army] of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.” (Gen 2:1-2).
And this is usually where we wrap up the account of creation. In actuality, this is where the story begins. The extended calendar is a concise outline of the biblical account of human history, described in detail in the rest of the posts in this blog, beginning in the evening of the seventh day.
“And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.” (Gen 3:8)
Night: The Adversary subjected all creation to corruption and death when he tricked mankind into rejecting God’s word and submitting to his authority. This is when time, as mortal humans understand and experience it, begins.
Interestingly, the Hindu religion, which preserves the most comprehensive and oldest accounts of the activities of “the gods” from this time period, confirms this. In Hinduism “Kala means both time and death…From a spiritual perspective, time exists when we are in a state of duality but disappears when we enter into the state of unity” with God.
“For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature [whole creation] was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” (Ro 8:19-23)
And this is where the history of mankind really takes off. Remember, God gave dominion to mankind. God doesn’t go back on his word.
“…one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him?…Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him….But now we see not yet all things [just some things] put under him.” (Heb 2:8-10)
Humans are not passive subjects in God’s kingdom. We are active players. The world is won back from the enemy by humans fighting for what is ours under the direction of our king. It really helps to have some vision of ancient warfare here, when kings led their massed troops out to battle. Our weapon? What else?
“…the sword of the Spirit…is the word of God.” (Eph 6:17)
Adam was still God’s King of Righteousness as well as God’s messenger/prophet to his children and descendants, ergo the first priest-king in the order/appointed succession of Melchisedec. Interestingly, according to the Sumerian accounts, En–lil / Adam is portrayed as being most active in Noah’s time, ~2,500 BC, after Adam had died. His memory and teachings would have had to have been carried on by an priestly order. More on this in the post on Melchisedec.
The ancient city of Nippur is reputed to have been designed and construction supervised by Enlil / Adam himself. It makes sense that Adam, like David and the kings fhim, established a theocratic center of government and worship of YHVH / Anu, but it also makes sense that this would have been in Jerusalem. I suggest that Adam’s memory, and especially his teachings on YHVH, were kept alive at God’s sacred city of Jerusalam, so were necessarily perverted at an alternative site. The city of Nippur was likely the first of the rival theocratic centers with which we are more familiar such as Babylon then Rome.
Like its successors, Nippur was considered capable of conferring the kingship on monarchs from other city-states. It was distinctively a sacred city, important from the possession of the famous shrine of Enlil. As Enlil, Adam was acknowledged to be the ruler of the cosmos, subordinate to no other god but Anu, who was often invoked with him in inscriptions. We should not be surprised to find that at this early stage of history, Enlil’s / Adam’s extraordinary status as the first human son of God caused him to be respected, feared, and even worshipped in the distorted belief that at his death he resumed his godhood. After all, the fundamental promise made by YVHV / Anu to humans was that the curse of mortality/death would be reversed in some mystical way when the Seed of the Woman crushed the Seed of the Serpent. It is logical to speculate that humanity, or at least some of them, believed that Adam’s immortality was restored at his death.
As time went on the pure worship of YHVH flickered dangerously into oblivion. Spectacular struggles against the enemy are recorded in our history, such as the utter vandalism of God’s creation, resulting in yet another world-wide catastrophe.
“And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” Gen 6:12-13)
Although Nippur was especially prone to devastation by flooding or fire, settlement persisted at the same spot. Interestingly, one early archeological stratum is marked by painted pottery of good make, but this people gave way in time to another, markedly inferior. This was no doubt because the city was rebuilt and inhabited by impoverished pioneers after the flood. Enki, who did not belong to the original pantheon of Nippur, assumed control of the city of Nippur and its religious authority over the other Mesopotamian cities.
Shortly after humanity begins recovering from the flood, they again submit to the Adversary’s leadership, Abraham being the striking exception. God appoints Abraham’s descendants, the nation of Israel, to be his ambassador to the other nations.
“Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.” (Ex 19:5-6)
As seen above in the account by Ezekiel, Israel’s priests reject God’s covenant, extinguishing the last rays of light in God’s temple.
“For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the [God’s] people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee [Israel]. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.” (Isa 60:3)
They say it’s always darkest just before the dawn.
“Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire.” (Mal 3:1-2)
Morning: God triumphs, redeeming human children and all creation from death. The gospel/good news of salvation has always been the same – we can restore a relationship with God and win the battle against spiritual and physical death by substituting another death for ours through faith in his Promised Savior.
“And the Lord God said unto the serpent…I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise [crush] thy head, and thou shalt bruise [bloody] his heel. (Gen 3:15)
“And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John…this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee…And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.” (Matt 11:7-12)
“…behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed…for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” (Rev 5:5-10)
Day Eight – the real Star Wars resistance against the evil empire.
Evening: Oh, there’s more? Days 8-10 are not listed in Genesis because they hadn’t happened yet. We infer them from later references to night and day. Redeemed humans are empowered to take dominion over the earth, given responsibility for reclaiming as many souls as will accept salvation.
“All power is given unto me in heaven and and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations.” (Mat 28:18-19)
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.” (II Cor 5:17-20)
Night: Apostasy by the people of God once again allows darkness to overshadow the world. According to scripture, this is our current era. We are currently in the night.
“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk [live our lives] honestly, as in the day...” (Ro 13:12-13)
“…be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away [apostasy] first…And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming… Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.” (II Thess 2:2-15)
“But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.” (I Thess 5:4-6)
Morning: Just when it seems that all hope is gone and no flesh will be saved alive, the Lord of Heaven and Earth appears suddenly in a blinding flash of light from heaven that makes an atom bomb pale by comparison.
“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Mal 4:1-3)
“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible [the ultimate healing in his wings], and we shall be changed. (I Cor 15:51-52)
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war…and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses…and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords. And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God…And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth:” (Rev 19:11-21)
“And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.” (Rev 20:1-3)
Day Nine – Restoration of a post-apocalyptic world
“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years…they shall be priests of God and of Christ…” (Rev 20:4-6)
“And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city…” (Rev 20:7-9)
“But [!!!!!] the day of the Lord WILL COME [!!!!] as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (II Pet 3:10)
Morning: Judgment Day. Surely Hitler got his attitude from his father Satan. “Capitulate? Never. We can go down, perhaps, but we’ll take a world with us.”
“…and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works….And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Rev 20:10-15)
Day Ten – New Heaven and New Earth
Evening: that lasts forever and ever, unlike that first tragic evening when God’s children ran from him.
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away… He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” (Rev 21:1,7)
“And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.” (Rev 22:3-5)
This is just an outline of the entire blog, so don’t get overwhelmed by too many new ideas which can’t be proven and logically connected one to another in this short space. For now, let’s return to studying Genesis chapter 1.
To summarize what we’ve learned so far:
God created the universe and everything in it, so it belongs to him. He chose to delegate dominion – protection, administration, oversight, responsibility, caretaking – to humans. In order for humans to be successful at this enormous job, we have to be “righteous”, which is just a way of saying that we’re “doing it right.” Obviously doing something wrong will result in dysfunction and destruction.
